Hello there!
Here’s the reference sheet we used for both Sonic and Athena for the pilot of the comic! For Sonic and Athena at least. The owl model was made after the last page, which is why it might look different—it didn’t look "owl" enough initially, so we decided to improve it. And we did! I’m quite happy with the result!
For Sonic, the idea was a no-brainer: giving him Hermes’ shoes. The Storybook series has always shown him capable of handling elements (fire, then wind). Here, it’s lightning—an obvious reference to Zeus, and represented through the wings that are lightning shape. His shoes are made of different metals, referencing the various ages of antiquity. However, we ultimately left out the copper to maintain the usual red of his shoes.
As for Athena, we followed the style of Shahra and Merlina: same lady as always, just with a different Greek twist.
