D&D Adventures: The Warrior I (Ea)

Kyle sighs, “Well… It’s Saturday night… That means the group will be hanging out in Danny’s basement playing that dumb game again… What was it called again? Damsels in Distress or something… I really have no idea.”

Kyle sighs again and shakes his head. “I’d rather be at Mikey’s party hanging out with the cool kids and getting drunk, but like always, I chose to be loyal to my friends. I suppose it’s not so bad; the game can be fun, and as long as we’re hanging out, I can deal with it.”

Kyle thinks back upon their previous sessions. “Jack was always playing as busty female characters, but it makes him happy, and he makes all of my characters, so I don’t have to learn how to do it myself, so I don’t complain. Although I could do without his special touches.”

“Ian, on the other hand, changes his character completely each time we play. He’s always coming up with fun, wacky characters. Last time he was a male lizard bard. It was always interesting to see how he used his character's uniqueness to solve problems within the world.”

“Then lastly there was Danny, our game master, or whatever you call it. He’s the one who runs the game, so he doesn’t play as a character like we do; instead, he plays all the NPCs and monsters and comes up with the entire story, which seems like a lot of work.”

Kyle shrugged his shoulders. “I, on the other hand, keep it simple. As long as I’m tall, buff, and strong enough to break my problems, I couldn’t care less about what race my character is, what class, or what I look like.”

Kyle arrived at Danny’s house, knocked on the door, and was let inside. Kyle heads down to Danny’s basement, which was a pretty cool game room. Kyle grabbed his new character from Jake and started going over it.

“Let’s see what he came up with for me this time.” Kyle let out a deep sigh as he looked at the character's gender. “Female huh… I shouldn’t be the least bit surprised… He really can’t help himself.” Kyle looked over at Jake, who just smiled.

Kyle shook his head and went back to looking at his character. “Well, other than that, it looks good. I’m tall and buff thanks to my race being Amazonian. My class is warrior, and my main weapon is a greatsword. I suppose this should work.”

Kyle then looked up to see what the others were doing; that’s when he saw Danny coming back with some strange-looking box. Unlike Ian, Kyle lost interest in the box right away, so he went back to looking over his character.

“What’s that?” Ian asked. Danny smiled and placed it on the table. “It’s a new thing for D&D; I got it at a local game shop. It’s supposed to make the game more immersive and essentially run the game so that even I can play.”

Ian was beyond impressed, while Jake was mildly interested, and Kyle looked unamused. “Well, might as well see if it works; if it does, I’ll make a character real quick; if not, we’ll play as we normally would.” Danny said as he looked around.

“Sounds great. I hope it works. I’d love to be playing side by side with you for once.” Ian said excitedly. “I’ll admit, I want to know what this more immersive feature is like.” Jake said, sounding a bit suspicious. “Eh, doesn’t make a difference to me.” Kyle said without looking up.

“Alright, here goes nothing.” Danny said as he pressed the button. The box started to shake a bit, and some pretty awful noises came from it, then it started to glow and float into the air. “Uh… is it supposed to do that?” Ian asked.

“Maybe? I… I don’t know…” Danny said with a nervous tone. The sounds and flashing got Kyle to look up and watch what was going on. Kyle was about to ask what was going on, but that’s when he noticed Jake pass out.

“Maybe we should turn it off.” Danny said as he reached for the box, but before he reached it, he passed out onto the table. “Danny? Are you… okay?” Ian said before passing out. “What the heck?? Why is everyone passing… out…” Kyle said before dropping to the floor himself.

Kyle was asleep for quite some time, but then she heard a voice. “Grainne, it’s time to wake up and prepare for your quest.” The voice spoke seemingly directly into her mind. “Who’s… talking…” Kyle said as she slowly came to.

Once she was more awake, she looked around. She found herself inside a small bedroom, with a set of armor and a large greatsword sitting on the desk next to her. “Whoa, that looks super realistic!” Kyle said as she sat up.

She was about to go play with it, but her long hair hit her back, and her chest moved more than she was used to. “That… was strange… What’s going on?” Kyle said as she looked down. “What… what the heck! I have…”

Kyle couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She was somehow a woman, but beside that, she was also quite buff. “What’s going on with my body…” Kyle continued to look at herself but stopped when the voice started speaking again.

“Grainne the warrior, the campaign has begun. Your current quest is to guard Alista Blorndyne and her property.” The voice said before going completely silent. “The campaign has begun? Am… am I inside the game?”

Kyle looked down at herself again. “If that’s the case… I must have taken over as my character, which, thanks to Jake, explains why I’m currently a buff female…” Kyle said, annoyed. “What do I do? I don’t really want to be here… but it doesn’t seem I have a choice.”

Kyle pouted a bit. “I guess I should do my quest. If I do, I might get sent back home; if not, I should meet up with the others, right? We usually start alone but all end up together.” Kyle, feeling a bit determined, decided to go with that.

She then got up and walked over to her armor. She was already wearing some robes, so she just needed to toss the chestpiece and hip plates on, then secure her leather straps that hold up her item pouches.

It took her a minute, mostly because she’d never worn anything like this before and partially because she was embarrassed about her body, but she managed to get it on. “I’m surprised at how well this fits… Plus it’s not as heavy as it looks.” Kyle said as she flexed and moved in her armor.

She then stopped and looked at the greatsword. “That thing looks heavier than two people… but I am a buff baddie, so maybe it’s not that heavy for me.” Kyle reached over and grabbed the greatsword with both hands and started swinging it around.

She then looked amazed. “It is lighter than I expected. I don’t even think I need both hands.” Kyle let go of the greatsword with her right hand and continued swinging it around. “Oh heck yeah! I love this! I’m a strong warrior!”

Kyle then put her greatsword behind her back, securing it in place for when she’d need it. She then checked out her pouches to see what they were holding. “Let’s see, ten gold and three silver. I also have some food rations and a map of the city, and lastly, some sort of strange gem.”

Kyle inspected the gem a bit but had no idea what was up with it. “Must be something to do with my backstory, but I have no idea since I didn’t get to finish reading it. Well, maybe it’s not important and won’t come up again. So I’ll just forget about it.”

Kyle put everything away and looked towards the door. “I guess I might as well check out where I am.” Kyle leaves the room and finds that she’s inside a massive mansion. “Wow, this place is crazy big… my character must live here full-time just to guard it…”

Kyle looked around and didn’t see anyone. “I guess the person I’m protecting isn’t here, or maybe not awake. So I guess I’ll do a bit of patrolling for a while.” Kyle heads out the main door and finds herself looking at a massive magical city unlike anything she could imagine.

“Whoa… this is amazing… I… I can’t believe it. Everything seems so real… It truly feels like I ended up in another world…” Kyle turned her head and saw her reflection in the window. Like she already figured out, she was a buff woman with long black hair, but she was just realizing how tall she was.

“No wonder everything looks small. I must be at least seven feet tall.” Kyle said, a bit impressed. “Maybe this will be sort of fun. I mean, not being a woman, but being an unstoppable tank sounds really fun.”

Kyle said, a bit excited about what was to come from all of this. Kyle pulled her sword out and stood firm as she looked down the stairs to the front gate. “Alright, I’ll play along. I’m Grainne, an Amazonian, and a guard for the governor. Let’s see where this campaign goes.”

Well, what can I say... Kyle at least tries to be a good friend to his comrades, as far as I understand, he himself doesn't really like D&D, but for the sake of his friends he still plays... As for me, this says a lot about him!... I can also understand his approach to his characters and their backstories, but I still think that he should have gotten to know his character better... I think that "strange gem" could be very important...
