The spirits borrowing the Somas' bodies makes a lot of sense cuz the whole time I was watching the show, I was like why do they care if Akito plays the role of god in the zodiac, I would've smacked that scrawny dude in the face and done whatever I wanted!

Akito, in this version, is that God figure. The Zodiac spirits are spiritually bonded, linked, and even chained to Akito, who sits at the center of that connection. That’s why the Somas struggle so much to defy or disobey Akito. It’s not just emotional manipulation, it’s a supernatural bond. The animal spirits essentially ‘borrow’ the Soma family members’ bodies, and those spirits are loyal to Akito, not just the host. So even when Akito is cruel or abusive, the Zodiac members are trapped in this cosmic role. Visualizing it like a web with Akito in the center might help...it’s that deep. Also, major shoutout to Momiji! He stood up for our girl even though he must’ve been terrified. It’s mentioned more clearly in the manga, but Akito despises Momiji, not because of what he says or does, but simply because he stays happy despite his circumstances. Akito can’t break him, and that makes him a quiet force in the story that deserves way more appreciation.
