I like where you’re going with this. Jinwoo has changed but I don’t know yet if it’s for the better or not. Good luck with the medical 🫂

long comment incoming, i should never be allowed to watch video essays on youtube. but, love the vid. love your thoughts on Jinwoo's motivations. super stoked for your reactions to next week <3 (i might be absent in the comments tho, medical stuff coming up) when i read this part in the manhwa, it felt so jarring to me. Jinwoo deciding to go 'take a peek' at the dungeon boss seemed wildly out of character -- because it *is* selfish. and my perception of Jinwoo, at the time, was simply A Family Man. the reason he fights, is to provide for others; his mother, his sister, and even strangers a la the beginning of the series. he was selfless enough to die for the greater benefit of the larger group. why screw around in a dungeon like this? now though, after watching the anime too many times, Jinwoo in this episode makes perfect sense to me. for as much as Jinwoo is acting for goals that generally only benefit *other* people, he is also *ravenous* at the prospect of becoming stronger simply because he *can*. in a corner of his heart, he loathes his own limits, his consignment as The Weakest Hunter of All Mankind, and is not concerned (currently) with offering his new power to a guild. he just wants to fight. he's good at it now. really good. and he likes the freedom he has to pursue strength just for himself. so i think that, getting reassessed, and being too strong for the orb to put his power level into a concrete number, really bothered Jinwoo. sure, the malfunction apparently means he's auto S-rank, but it's still just "error" on the screen. and in overhearing the other miners gossip about him being weak, Jinwoo gets antsy af to reaffirm that he is, in fact, strong. im glad Cha Haein was there to stop him. but... i get why he even considered it now. tbh tho i've always thought that Jinwoo has sucked at identifying how strong his foes are? and thus himself? it always feels like A Guess, especially when he then ratios opponents he just 2 seconds ago clocked as way stronger than him. which, if he's noticing that trend in himself, probably makes him even more frustrated to be an "error". if being S-rank is just 'break the giant magic 8-ball', and we've seen that hunter ranks are spectrums from a weakest to a strongest... then where, exactly, does Jinwoo stand in the S-rank?
