2025-03-23 23:59:42 +0000 UTCI just recently watched MHA so I’m not an expert, but I generally just followed Crunchyroll. I noticed some watch lists put the OVA’s earlier than they appear in the list, but I think that’s cause they’re mostly just flashback training episodes similar to this one. The movie names aren’t spoilers, but there is debate on when to watch them. The 2nd movie, “Heroes: Rising” was released fairly early, but to avoid a very, very slight spoiler, some lists recommended watching it any time after S5E13. The third movie: “World Heroes Mission” takes place after Season 5 Episode 16. For both movies I personally just finished Season 5 then watched them back to back before moving on to Season 6. Last movie I don’t think is even available to stream yet. I noticed in MHA the exact timing of watching the OVA’s/movies doesn’t matter very much. As long as you don’t watch them before those episodes listed above you’re fine. Some people may offer corrections below since there’s a ton of different lists with slightly different orders.

I recently started watching the show with my mom and noticed some OVAs that J&J didn't react to but haven't watched them yet since I'm not sure if we should see them. Apart from recap episodes I do like watching everything in a series even if what's shown is anime-only stuff or the fun type of OVAs that have nothing to do with the main story.

You guys are spot-on in your assumptions though, just a one-off episode to tell a side story and promote the movie. There are a few official OVA’s that will be coming up, but I believe Crunchyroll tacks them on at the end of each season, so you’ll just run into them naturally.
