Well said Jay 💜 I struggled with Hiro’s character as well the first time and by the end I was still a little uncomfortable but it sure does get better. Cant imagine how the early 2000s version would have been though, I didnt watch that 😅 thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts as always. Proud of you and what you work as 💜🙏🫶

hiro is def annoying, but i actually thought he was pretty funny the way he just continuously provokes ppl fully knowing what he's doing. ofc it wasnt funny when he was saying and doing all that to tohru, but i knew he was still just a kid so in my head i wasnt as mad abt it. if he was a real kid in my life tho, i think id go crazy

I really struggled with Hiro when I first watched Fruits Basket in the early 2000s version—I honestly didn’t like his character at all. But watching the 2019 reboot, along with my own personal growth and my work as a behavior therapist for children, helped me understand that there’s always a reason a child acts out. Through the reboot, I got to see Hiro’s growth and maturity, and I learned to appreciate him for who he is. Luckily, this isn’t the last we’ll see of him, because even by the end of this episode, I still wasn’t a fan—but he does get better. Imagine only having this version of him and never seeing his development, like in the 2001 adaptation… yikes.

Finally!! You’ve met one of my favorite characters! You don’t know how much I was looking forward to this episode. Hiro is a smart, sarcastic, and, at first, somewhat arrogant child. He tends to be very direct and sometimes hurtful with his words. But in a way, I like his attitude because, despite being "spoiled," I think that boldness and willingness to argue is something the Soma family needs. Everyone is afraid of Akito, but Hiro, at such a young age, stands up to him and says what he feels… that takes a lot of courage. However, in the end, he doesn’t always know how to act because he’s still just a child, a child trying to behave like an adult. (in my opinion, the adults in the Soma family don’t know how to act like real adults when it comes to children; they don’t protect them.) Hiro wants to grow up so he can protect the people he cares about. I feel that the reason he distanced himself from Kisa was both due to a deep sense of guilt over what Akito did to her and as a way to protect her. By staying away, he tried to prevent future consequences from Akito. I love it, I love it, I love it... I feel like a fierce character like him was really needed (even though he still has a loooot of emotional maturing to do).
