Fruits Basket - 1x16 REACTION!!

Comments

FINALLY caught up on the fruits basket reactions. i don't get much free time so it's taken me a while. i've watched fruits basket twice before watching your guys' reactions to it, both times prior to 2021. in july of 2021, i lost my younger sister to an overdose. i rewatched fruits basket a couple years ago and i had an entirely different experience watching it after losing my sister. watching how torhu handles the grief of losing her mother and all the life lessons in this series as a whole had me in shambles. torhu has been one of my biggest "helpers" (for lack of a better term) in dealing with grief. watching y'all get a lot of the same messages from this series about grief and relating it so often to your own mother (rest her soul), is oddly validating and reassuring, as i've found myself nodding along and responding to you two through the screen when you guys talk about it, as if y'all can hear me. sounds silly, but that's generally why i watch reactions, for a sense of friendship and community, as i don't have much of that in real life. thank you guys for being so introspective and intelligent and understanding this beautiful series. can't wait for next week!

Been watching y’all for a while but first time commenting. Almost commented last week in regard to Momiji’s backstory. But with my godmother’s passing due to dementia on February 13th, it’s a little too raw to share. Needless to say this series is a balm that is intense when first applied but soothes deep aches. When I read this week’s parts of the manga as a preteen, it inspired me to look for mentors and role models outside of my sphere of friends and family. Kyoko’s “I just relaxed a little, that’s all” was mind blowing for a preteen girl who thought adulthood was serious and burdened with responsibility. As I went through my teens, I was thankful to have different adult perspectives on the situations I was going through. Looking back I did have some spicy responses to “This isn’t the end of the world”. I had once yelled at a mentor that she didn’t understand me. She replied that she did because she listened to me for the past hour as we walked in a park. I have no clue what I was heated about or how old I was, but the fact that she listened made me aware of other’s time and value. This lesson led me to become a therapist, in hopes that I could give the gift that woman gave me to countless others.

Looooooved the reaction guys ! ❤️ I was so hyped ‘cause Uotani is one of my fav characters this arc of the anime is soooo good ! Really shows how deep every character is ! Like, everyone in Fruits Basket has a past that shaped them, and Uotani’s story is such a good example ! For context, her backstory hits a bit harder when you know about young female biker gangs of the '80s and '90s, in japan : They were either like Uotani's an all-female gang or mixed with bosozoku guy gangs. We see them a lot in japanese pop culture ! Their thing was mainly to street race with loud bikes, custom jackets, and basically be delinquents. Because a lot of them came from tough backgrounds and felt like they didn’t fit in, the gang represented a place where they could actually be someone. It might just feel like normal teen rebellion, but in Japan, it was a BIG deal. Schools have crazy strict rules on uniforms, skirt length, number of buttons to button up and even hair color, so just dyeing your hair like Uotani was already pushing boundaries. Skipping school, fighting, running with a gang, causing trouble was a full on outcast attitude. . But as you noticed they weren’t really hardcore criminals. It was more about getting into fights, vandalizing stuff, and create overall chaos to feel free, and make a name for yourself. Some did get into rough situations tho, but it was especially in mixed gangs. Nowadays, though, bosozoku and ladies' gangs have almost completely disappeared. The government fought hard against it and Japanese society has changed a lot, so you don’t really see them anymore, especially the all-female ones I remember my university’s Japanese teacher telling us wild stories about the delinquents at his school. 🤣 Like how one time, a dude literally drove his motorcycle straight through the classroom window during a lesson, injuring his classmates !? My whole classroom found the anecdote quite hardcore but my professor was so smiley about it like 'Ah, the good old days!' So it kind of sounded like it was just a normal day at school for him. Like, that’s the level of chaos 80's teenagers were into I guess 🤣

Hi J&J! Long time no see! This is my first time watching this anime. My favorite character so far is Kyo (maybe because I love cats haha), I hope he gets a really happy ending. Also it would be nice to see him and Thoru getting together (bye Kagura). I'm really curious about this zodiac cult, looks like it's quite dark and dangerous.
