2025-03-14 21:09:34 +0000 UTCI don’t like Shigure either for the same reasons. He is definitely playing it up for comedy but that doesn’t excuse it or make it acceptable. It’s just important to understand in the context of older anime, this is unfortunately a common trope.

2025-02-15 12:51:10 +0000 UTCa few other ppl have mentioned the weird comments shigure makes specifically abt high school girls, but i just want to let it be known that it's fine to shit on him for it cause ik i certainly do. ive been watching anime a long time and i grew up on these 90s and early 2000s anime that have these exact type of jokes, as well as large age gaps between couples, and a lot of other weird stuff. but i didn't realize how weird it was till i would rewatch them when i got older and it makes me sincerely dislike those type of characters 😞 i actually binged fruba after watching a bit of your reactions so im done w it now, and honestly, shigure never rlly grew on me. those type of comments he makes are a factor. a lot of ppl may dislike my opinion idk, but i just cant look past it. ik it's played off as a joke and characters call him out for it, but it doesn't make it any less weird to me 😭 this goes for characters like jiraiya from naruto, master roshi from dbz, and sanji from one piece (i do think sanji's one of the best written characters in op, but omg that mf gets on my nerves). idk this may be a hot take, esp for those who grew up on anime and are desensitized to it. like yes im used to it and yes it's a common trope, but i just cant deal w it, it pisses me off too much

Thank you for your great reaction XD Maybe someone told you already, but valentine's day in Japan is mostly an event for girls to give boys chocolate.(Or chocolate flavor sweets) There are "Honmei chocolate" you give to a boy you want to date or already dating. And there is "Giri chocolate"(which means "obligatory gift chocolate") you give to the others you want to thank or want to get along without causing any trouble. So Tohru gave all the others "Giri Chocolate" and Kagura gave "Honmei chocoale" to Kyo last episode :) Sorry I post it before I finish X( Additional: So the "white day" is a day that boys answer to the girl's feelings or thank for the chocolate they got :) BTW, I live near by a famous hot spring town and even near a city called Hita which is the AOT city in Japan! My place is also famous with raw fish/sea food, you won't know how wonderful to live here! lol If you're coming to Japan, I can give you good information for sure if you need ;) That's all for today! 2025-02-14 00:50:52 +0000 UTCto add onto this, fruits basket is over 25 years old so it’s good to keep in mind that not every joke and trope aged perfectly. the other characters acknowledge that Shigure’s “special interest” in high school girls makes him creepy but Shigure also goes out of his way to play into the trope for comedic purposes

You guys are the best 😅 also to clarify, although maybe the dub will beat me to it, the joke at the end that Shigure was making was that the maids outfit was in fact his return gift to Tohru hence why Hatsuharu told him "try not to get arrested" lol although the legal age of consent in Japan is 16 so he could very well "date" Tohru; harassment is still illegal but it was all a joke and a lot of them come up like this in most Slice-of-life's. Also he referred to himself as an old man because although we know 26 isn't exactly old...because he is so much older than the teens he is jokingly calling himself "old man". Hope this helps!
