While I love the power system in MHA and there’s some great fights throughout the series, it’s those quieter, slower moments like Todoroki walking to the hospital where his mom is at and reflecting on his starting line that really make the anime shine.

2025-02-12 00:10:15 +0000 UTCOne thing I feel with this episode is that Todoroki shows us that, for him, becoming a hero, using fire, etc. (which, in a way, is doing what his father wanted) feels like he's betraying his mother. That's why he can't allow himself to move forward without helping her do the same, i think he feels like it would be unfair. I loved seeing how his journey as a hero begins by saving his mother, whom he hadn't seen in years. And also just in case it helps, the white-haired woman with red streaks and glasses who was talking to Todoroki is not his grandmother, she is his sister. Remember that Endeavor mentioned that Todoroki has siblings. That's why she was saying, "Are you going to visit Mom?"

And yes, their mum is in a hospital, in the flashback during the fight in 2x10, Endeavour tells Shoto that he put her in a hospital after she hurt him. A little fact too regarding the scar, since I don't believe the anime ever shows it when the manga does, but Shoto's scar is less actually from the boiling water and more from his mum using her ice quirk to try and cool his skin after she hurt him, once she had realised what she did. Super cold ice on freshly burned skin is not a good combination.

2025-02-11 23:19:38 +0000 UTCWhen bakugo wins, the anguish and devastation in his voice, breaks my heart every time. This is a win, sure, but it's a tainted victory. He has no way of knowing if he really *earned* that win, since todoroki didn't give it his all. He might seem like brash annoying tsundere, but if you really look at his character he becomes easier to understand. He's strives for the best in every single thing that he does because that's how he maintains his self worth. It's kinda heartbreaking when you think about it. He's a Strategic genuis but he equates his own strength to his own value.
