It was this episode that triggered my own trauma with my father and made me want to work on it. Watching Shoto go through literal hell, physically but also mentally, and finally accept his left side made me cry so hard and reflect on myself. At the time, I already lived alone and my parents broke up, but it triggered something in me so I decided to go to therapy. It helped me so much to work through all the things my mom and I had to endure at a very young age, and made me realize that not all evil people do bad things and not all good people do the right things. I am 28 now and haven't seen my father in 12 years. I found my peace and forgave him, because in the end, he made me who I am today and I freaking love myself. I am the head of fleet in a big Corporation and am responsible for a whole department, so I get asked a lot of times how I manage to lead a large team as a female at such a young age. I always tell them that BTS inspired and encouraged me, that I am allowed to dream big and pursue everything I hoped for and that Shoto had a big part in my healing journey to begin with, so that I could flourish and become the person I am today, and for that I will always be grateful. Thank you J&J for lighting up my day every time you come on screen and for being so respectful towards my favorite characters and series you cover. I am also grateful for the community we created, you guys are such a safe space that I have the courage to come out like this without being worried of anyones judgment. Love always, Rivai

Endeavor is such a POS, not only was he abusive to Todo's mom, he basically used her like a breeding farm because Todoroki has a bunch of siblings all to achieve their fathers wish of beating all might cuz he cant do it himself. He ignores the other kids because they are failures in his eyes and only todo has the potential of surpassing all might, it's a sad life for that family when the patriarch only sees them as tools to use

2025-02-08 07:44:57 +0000 UTCi swear i could listen to you two talk about this series all day and be perfectly content. the todoroki family lore is one of the most hard hitting, gripping stories i've seen in any series, ever. y'all have barely scratched the surface. also, endeavor saying "i see you've finally accepted yourself", was NOT him being proud of shoto coming into his own. endeavor meant it more along the lines of "ah, i see you've finally accepted who i've molded you into, and that you're accepting to follow in my footsteps". it was a selfish disgusting statement. this show has SO many incredible fights and heartwrenching moments. i can't wait to see you guys react to future PEAK fights! love y'all! editing to add: i'm 28, about to be 29, and i've been no contact with my mother for almost 4 years now. she's been an alcoholic my entire life, and my sisters and i endured just about any and all kinds of abuse there is from her. endeavor reminds me a lot of her, although my mother was more prone to the verbal/mental abuse rather than physical. which is coincidentally why, having read the manga and watched the series more times than i can count so im fully caught up, endeavor still does not get a lick of sympathy from me. i hate him probably more than any other anime character besides shou tucker.

2025-02-08 05:29:58 +0000 UTCi wouldn’t say i was physically abused as a kid, but my parents def hit my siblings and i a lot. it didn’t traumatize me or nothing, but i have a question for any of yall reading this who also got hit a lot: do yalls parents deny how much they beat you throughout your childhoods 😭 cause my parents swear up and down that they never did, and that if they did, it was never hard. yet i distinctly remember being left w bruises sometimes and obviously the fear. i also remember my parents asking me to go get the belt whenever my siblings were acting up or even times where my mom would grab wtv was around her to throw at us. like hello you’re not gonna tell me that we made that up?? 3 different ppl w the same memories yet we’re the crazy ones?? im almost positive one of the reasons they deny it is cause they grew up in actual abusive households (not that they’d ever admit it) cause their parents would actually beat the shit out of them w whips and sticks and stuff, but they thought that that was normal bc they were born and raised in latin america where abuse is normalized. then they hit us to a much lesser extent and believe that we were just being dramatic. i love my parents (my dad a little less than my mom cause he’s an asshole a lot of the time) but they loveee to gaslight tf out of us ab shit like that but i also want to be clear that they weren't bad parents. they sacrificed a lot for us and work rlly hard to this day for me to stay in school and to support all of us in any way. they also make it very clear how much they love us every day. but they have majorrrrrr flaws that they're never gonna fix bc they don't believe in things like therapy or mental health issues which they most def have

2025-02-08 04:22:37 +0000 UTCThis is a tough watch. I agree with Slush. The past becomes part of who you are. How you choose to go forward in life is part of the healing process. I would like to think that the fact that I’m still alive after extreme trauma as a child/youth has made me a better, kinder more empathetic person. However, the past influenced my decision to never have children, to break chains of generational trauma and not repeat the sins of my parents. I’m proud that I never became the addicted, emotionally, verbally abusive, bitter abused mother that made her children’s lives a living nightmare as most people expected me to be. I wanted a better, peaceful life and even though I shouldn’t be, I’m still here.

2025-02-08 00:30:27 +0000 UTCHi jj, I expect that after watching some episodes of mha, you understood that Endeavor's character is sick with narcissism, because he speaks in the ego form and there is clear arrogance and haughtiness in him, however I hate it when he says that thing (Shoto) or says my blood and my desire and so on, 🥲 Patients like him lack understanding of feelings and caring about them, and they may hurt the people closest to them morally and physically, and the best treatment is to be clear with them and take responsibility, a question is do you think that honesty is a treatment offered to Endeavor 👀, because I have a past just like Shoto and Endeavor as well Note: Shoto is a fan of all Might, as you can see, he and his mother have been watching his shows since he was young 😂

He is seen as a successful man, even a doting father, praised for being a hero, and even ranked as the number two hero. Todoroki must feel disgusted every time he sees his father striving to be recognized as the number one hero, wanting to surpass All Might, all while betraying everything it truly means to be a hero. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode! It was definitely a powerful one.

All Might tasked him with telling the world "I AM HERE!" during his first Sports Festival as a way to prepare everyone for his departure as the number one hero, but instead he noticed Todoroki in pain and had to do something about it. (A couple episodes back he commented on how Todoroki looked kinda sad after his win against Sero 😥) He really does have the heart of a hero. And Todoroki finally locking in to win the match, even though he's struggling to make sense of his past... man, I can't wait for you guys to see everyone's future developments in this show~

Have you heard Kirishima's response to Bakugo saying "I'll kill you" in this episode? He said "I'd like to see you try!" ! When my daughter start watching MHA, she asked me "Who is the super darlin of class A?" and I answered "Definitely Kirishima. Or maybe Ojiro." In this episode you could see how Kirishima is kind and tolerance to people around him. Who else can smile "I'd like to see you try!" when Bakugo says "I'lI kill you"? I like his kind, steady and strong cored personality! (BTW my favorite character is not him though. haha) That's all I wanted to say in this episode :) I can't wait for tomorrow and further on. I grew up in a very strict religious household and my father had a lot of unreasonable expectations of me and my siblings. while never physically abusive, he often emotionally neglected, abused, and manipulated my family. A BIG part of my healing journey has been learning to accept and love the parts of myself that my parents had deemed ugly or sinful. We all have a “left-side” to us. Sometimes we need a Deku in our lives to help us see how beautiful, powerful, and unique we are, “fire-side” and all.

Seeing deku go through so much physical anguish, giving his all and realizing what todoroki needed will never cease to amaze me. And he's right in both ways. One, todoroki is in a way still giving his father power over him by restricting his own talents. He may not be doing what endeavor wants but endeavor still has a chokehold over his life as long as shoto keeps carrying the rage with him constantly. It's blinding him. And two, every single other person is giving 110% to be where they are. He should definitely not deserve to win if he doesn't put forth the same kind of effort. That's what bakugo is always talking about when he's like "if you don't come to win what are you even doing here?" All in all, deku saving todoroki by helping him understand how to free himself from endeavors shackles really goes to show just how much of a heros heart deku has. I'm glad you both are starting to get sucked down the mha rabbit hole with us 🤣. Todoroki is another wonderfully written character amd I can't wait for you to understand him more Also jareds mispronouncing bakugo. It's bakuGOAT 🤣

You have to accept what traits you do have and learn to rework and reforge them into something good again. Ignoring your full identity just repeats the cycle again and makes you appear as a fake. That's why Midoriya was pushing Shoto to use both sides. He didn't want Shoto to only halfway try to be a hero. Use it all. Use EVERYTHING YOU ARE. Each and every person has the ability to remake where they came from, all it takes is courage to face it. And yes, I am an abuse survivor which is why this episode fired me up so much internally. As I react to yall more an more, I'll share here and there :)
