Fruits Basket - 1x10 REACTION!!

Comments

Late to the game here, but I love this first real look at Shigure. My interpretation of what Shigure said to Hatori is something like: Tohru is a bright light that shines and brings people out of their darkness, uncovering their fragile hearts, but when she shines on Shigure, he sees the parts of himself that are dirty, that he's not proud of and it startles him to have to confront that. She's so honest that when he tries to tease her, she's genuine where other people would get annoyed and that makes him reflect on his actions for a second.

Thanks, J&J. Been traveling, so late watching and commenting this week. I hope your family time was blessed. As you have been shown, the Sohmas each carry a heavy burden or as described by several of them, a curse. My heart always goes out to each of them as they try to navigate their individual and collective trauma. I am thankful Tohru is a catalyst for reflection and change for them!

I enjoyed how the writer introduced this side of Shigure in the way that Yuki described him, “a wave that approaches then recedes…you can never get a handle on him.” Shigure comes in like an unexpected or overwhelming wave (whether it be this new devious side or his overbearing cute guardian side). You don’t know what he’s going to hit you with but there’s no time to ride it before he comes in with another wave. Just when you think you’ve got his character down, he shows another layer like how he pressed Kyo about hating Yuki. One thing I do love about Shigure is when Tohru, Yuki or Kyo leave the house and he says “see you when you get back”. In the first episode, when Tohru got sick, she shared with Shigure that something more painful than losing her home was missing the chance to say “see you when you get back” to her mom. Since then, he’s said it a few times even here when they left on their double date. It’s a tender moment for me. Have a wonderful time with your aiga (family)! 🫶🏽

Haven’t even gotten into the episode fr. But I had to stop and comment on you guys talk about sushi and miso soup. My coworkers and I always go to a sushi restaurant after work at least twice a month sometimes 3 times. It’s like our little tradition. Being that we’re the youngest on the staff, we all instantly clicked so it’s just our small little crew and that’s what we do whenever we wanna destress from work. We’re all educators and boy is it a hard job. The staff at the restaurant knows us and everything because we go so often. It’s our little happy place lol. But anyway I said all that to say Yesss sushi and miso soup is everythinggg.

Hi J&J 👋 I hope you guys doing great and like always thank you for this amazing reaction. I really loved shigure for his cool uncle aura & his funny personality, especially in anime like FURUBA I feel like characters like him is a need to the viewers so they don't go with heavy emotional every episode. So this episode feelt like slap on my face, to think the comdey relief shigure is actually The mastermind strings his plans behind the scenes really made me.................................love him more,(he is n1 in my heart) I mean who hates a multi-layered character, I don't think he is pure evil, him feeling guilty for using others is proof that he is not a cold-hearted villain. And just a reminder the only one who can earse memory is Hatori, shigure can't do that. And if I may guess I think what Jared eat was takoyaki, you guys are Lucky to be able to eat takoyaki & sushi I have an allergy to seafood, so I cannot eat most Japanese dishes such a shame

It’s actually my first time rewatching this show with you guys and seeing this episode with all information I know now is so mind blowing, I didn’t realize how much foreshadowing was there. So, all we can say for now is to trust the process and you’ll find out, although I am quite nervous to see how your perception of this show will change in future episodes. I started watching Furuba thinking that it was cute romance and slice-of-life anime and I’ve never been more wrong about anything in my life. I think especially after the episode with Hatori’s backstory you can start to see the subtle dark nature of this show, and now there’s Shigure with his very complex personality. However, I strongly believe that he’s one of the best (if not the best) written characters in Furuba. I am very excited to see your reactions to future episodes, although I’m not sure if you are ready for them..

at the beginning, yall: i really like shigure at the end : wtf? 😂😂😂 everything is very vague on purpose 😈 when we talk about this anime being very deep we really mean it, it's like an emotional mystery as you put the pieces together as to what the heck is really going on with all these people. and then there is Tohru, our angel just healing hearts one at a time. also for some insight, Mitchan is Shigure's editor, since he's a writer he has deadlines so Mitchan is desperate because he's irresponsible and won't answer her calls. she's not in love or obsessed with him, she needs him to do his job 🤣

Somehow… watching this reaction so soon after the MHA one with Shinso’s “You can’t help what the heart longs for” made this episode really pop this time around. Shigure has been one of my long-lasting favorite characters. In past episodes, I feel like there are gentle hints, both from dialogue and choices in the positioning of the scene, that of course there’s more to him than meets the eye. But this is the first time you really get slapped in the face that behind the laid-back and immature (yet occasionally wise) display is a devious, manipulative, and self-serving man. I love that he doesn’t make excuses for this or claim that it’s for some noble end. Rather, he knows what he wants most in this world, and he’ll do what it takes to get it - even if that means innocent bystanders get hurt in the process. There are plenty of characters throughout countless stories striving to reach their goals while still maintaining the moral high ground. But for someone like me who is somewhat kind but more inclined towards selfishness, it’s easier to relate to someone like Shigure and understand how someone like Tohru can make us reflect on our own flawed qualities and how "dirty" we can feel because of them. J&J, trust the process with Shigure - the most cursed of all. He’s well worth watching. Hope you have fun with your family this week!
