Ya'll asked for it, so here's some more info on the Edo era! Fun fact to start off with: Edo is the former name for Tokyo. Before the Edo period, the capital was in Kyoto, but Japan as a whole didn't really exist as one singular country. It was more disjointed, made up of smaller fiefs led by daimyo. There's a lot more history in that, but before the Edo period was a period referred to as the Sengoku Jidai, or Warring States period, which started somewhere around the 1450s. All of the old samurai films (genre known as Jidai Geki) take place in this time period. (Side fun fact, the Jedi of Star Wars are based on the samurai of this period.) There are several possible dates for the end of the period, but it's basically over with the appearance of Oda Nobunaga, who began the process of unifying Japan around the 1550s. Toyotomi Hideyoshi then continued the process after Oda's assassination, and finally Tokugawa Ieyasu stepped in, and with victory at the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, took control of the country and finished the process, becoming the first Tokugawa shogun. One big thing to mention, before the Edo period, the Emperor was considered the "head" of state, even if only as a figurehead. But when Tokugawa took over, the Emperor basically lost all power. The capital was moved from Kyoto to Edo, and 200+ years of peace began. Japan closed its borders to the outside world, which wouldn't open until 1853 when Commodore Matthew Perry (from the US) appeared in Tokyo Bay and forced trade open. So the Edo period is basically the only period of Japan where the Emperor was not the head of state, but was ruled by the Tokugawa family, and it ended in 1868 when the emperor, Emperor Meiji, was restored to power. (Rurouni Kenshin is a good anime that takes place at the start of the Meiji era, about a samurai who fought on the side of the restoration of the Emperor, the Imperialists, as an assassin.) The Imperial capital didn't return to Kyoto, but Edo was renamed Tokyo and became the new capital. There, a very high view of about 400 years of Japanese history, lol. Some anime that take place in this time that I can remember off the top of my head, for anyone interested who read this far: -Elusive Samurai, which takes place right at the start of the Sengoku Jidai -Nobunaga Concerto, basically about a guy who goes back in time and becomes Oda Nobunaga -Samurai Champloo, about a group traveling during the Tokugawa era (thought of this one because of the baseball episode, lol) -Rurouni Kenshin (there's two anime, I haven't seen the remake. The live action movies are incredible), mentioned in the above paragraph

Wanted to make a note about the uniform Tanjiro is given. It's a gakuran, which became fashionable in the Taisho era for school uniforms, being based off of the Prussian military uniforms of the time, and are still used as school uniforms today! They're common for middle schools, and you can see Deku wear one before he starts U.A. The JJK uniform is also modified based off the gakuran, and maybe you remember, Nishinoya in Haikyuu even mentions he chose Karasuno because they wore the black gakuran! (after he praised the girls' uniform as his main reason, lol) The Demon Slayer corps is super fashionable!

The discussion at the end about believing someone is an important one. People don’t implore to you to trust what they’re saying without it being vitally important. When you are a victim of violence, a crime especially as a younger person and the adults, parents, police choose to look the other way, it will leave repercussions that unfortunately last a lifetime.

Oh I don't know if someone already commented on this, but the reason why Mr. Urokodaki has a mask is because he was mocked a lot by demons in the past. The reason? His face is too gentle and kind for a demon slayer lol. Also, you'll meet the 5th person very soon and I can only say that it will be a ride (one of my favourite character in this show) 🤣

You'll find out about the mysterious 5th person who passed final selection later on. I definitely forgot how soon they introduced Muzan, and I really can't wait for you guys to meet him! Only thing I wanted to clarify is the birth order with Tanjiro and Nezuko. Tanjiro is the oldest of all his siblings, and Nezuko is the second oldest and oldest girl. So the flashback she saw was of their younger siblings, who she undoubtedly helped care for as they grew up. You'll recall she was trying to put the youngest down for a nap in the first episode when Tanjiro left to sell the charcoal.
