I love Yuki and Kyo, they both have such good hearts underneath it all. As cranky and prickly Kyo can be, he has a soft heart. They way he speaks to Tohru is so soft and heart felt, while he is loud and antagonistic with Yuki. So, much growth for both Yuki and Kyo already in just 5 episodes.

You'll notice that when Tohru's (aunt?) talk about how Kyoko used to be violent, there was a quick flash to Kyoko in highschool, where you'll notice that she was wearing a school's uniform with a long (floor-length) skirt. In anime (I'm not sure how truly representative of Japanese culture this is), highschool delinquents (often represented to be kind of gang-like) are usually easily identifiable by wearing modified uniforms and having certain hairstyles. Having bleached hair (blond or orange) is a common indicator, and for girls wearing floor length skirts! So this scene implies that Kyoko was a delinquent in highschool 😊 This is just one of those little details that you pick up after watching anime for a long time.

Also let me just help you out for future episodes: Pig/Boar and Ox/Cow...the moderator can decide if thats a spoiler but honestly I think it just helps in the long run lol I'm glad you guys re-watch in dub because it helps with knowing if the characters are having an inner monologue like Shigure was which you will see when you watch in dub. Tohru’s older female relative isn’t so much saying that the Sohmas’ have a sketchy past, she’s more so implying that the type of people Tohru associates with must not be decent people. Her other relatives’ comments about Tohru being a live-in-girlfriend also imply that Tohru herself is not a decent girl. As gramps said, they are very unpleasant people. I believe in the English dub, Yuki calls them ‘trash’. Very fitting description 😤
