I'm enjoying the reactions, but wondering why they reacted to the first episode in dub and the rest are sub. I've only seen the dub and this is so weird to get used to ;_;

Fruit basket was always my life's text book from when I was a teenager. MHA is the second best series from AOT at this moment for me. So I had to come back to get on the ride. The classes in Japan and other countries have class representatives for their home room, like a president and vice president etc. it'll come back so I just wanted to mention that :) I really enjoy watching this with you! I knew you'd appreciate the humanity of this show. Jared I'm glad you are okay, I was pushed down stairs when I was a toddler and my mom still holds it against my brother cuz it's just so dangerous 🥲

Its' also so nostalgic for me as it was probably one of the first manga I ever read as a kid! Back then, we only had the 2001 version of the anime as well, and we would have entire evenings were we would binge watch it with my mother! One thing I absolutely love about growing up with this serie was that everytime I would read or watch it, I'd understand things even more, since as a kid, most of the life lessons flew right above my head XD

Kinning an anime character means you identify with or see a bit of yourself in them. For example, I kin Christa in AOT. I’m a Christa kinnie. Who do you kin, J&J? Love this FRUBA journey with you!

I have been watching your journey since you were watching death note, and believe me when I tell you that I feel the utmost excitement and happiness when I receive a notification from your channel. When I heard that you were watching FURUBA you guys probably can't imagine how I flew to press the subscribe button, whoever said that your favorite anime+ your favorite people =Max happiness was right, best formula ever. One of the things that made me fall in love with this anime is that it does not only focus on the main character, but it's make you feel deeply and relate to the side characters as well, and I don't see this in school anime very often. It's breaking my heart seeing Yuki like this cuz i relate to him with so many things every time i sit with my family I feel suffocated and all I think about is how badly I want to be independent and free from them */and when I say my family I don't just mean my parents and siblings, my uncles and aunts live as our neighbors and they are not very good neighbors, when I was a child I loved visiting them every day but now every year I grew older my love for them diminished more. Although the present is difficult I'm working to make sure the future better 💪 Anyway I hope your are enjoying this emotionally GOAT anime

Just memories of the sohmas’ existence. It’s probably why Yuki was upset about it. We now know after this episode that Yuki feels estranged from the people around him. It’s hard for him to make friends because if they found out, Akito would just have their memories wiped, and then he’d lose that connection with them. He’s more wary about getting close to people so he closes his heart instead. If Akito went through with the decision to erase Tohru’s memories, Yuki would lose Tohru as a friend. So Tohru asking Yuki to befriend her again if she had her memories erased really hit home for him. What a precious soul she is.

Love your reactions and analysis as usual ❤ Your discussion about how many of us (you are not alone!) were taught that boys are not supposed to complain or be emotional really resonates with me. The topic sets me off whenever it comes up because I have witnessed first hand the consequences of this absurd ideal and how it can fundamentally change a person. In my family the kids (2 girls/2 boys) were discouraged from complaining/crying at all. Specifically, we were ridiculed for showing vulnerability and ultimately learned to hide it. My brothers had it the worst though, because they were 'learning' to be men. This ideal is pervasive in society and is so emotionally damaging. The result of internalizing the "be tough" philosophy/upbringing is that it forces a person to wear a mask. They end up being reserved, acting like everything is a joke, or only allowing themselves to show anger. It's like any other feelings that aren't seen as 'strong' - sadness, anxiety, fear, shame, guilt, etc. can only be manifested as frustration or anger. You talked about Kyo's buried kindness and how it's held back behind this initial reaction of abrasiveness and anger. His demeanor feels so familiar to me (and it sounds like it was to you as well) because I immediately recognized it as a rejection of vulnerability. I see my brothers. 😢 Fruits Basket is such a beautiful story because it explores the many different ways that people react to difficult circumstances. The personalities and behaviors we see in Yuki, Kyo, and the others we meet are so varied and they display the inner pieces of ourselves and our loved ones that we have maybe missed or misunderstood. Tohru in this story is an angel sent for all of us. A guide to show us how to love ourselves and each other. Lastly, I've said it before, but it bears repeating: The two of you are absolutely amazing. Your reactions are always so thoughtful, honest, and compassionate. Very Tohru-esque. 😉 Your videos and the community you've brought together here are a sanctuary for me and I imagine for many other folks as well. Thank you!!
