She also updated character designs and gave the reboot a more modern look to better match the emotional depth of the story. Plus, the 2019 reboot is the first time we got to see some manga exclusive scenes animated, truly a treat for longtime fans 😭

Personally, when I watched the dub it wasn’t doing it for me. Idk I just felt more emotional when I watched it in sub but at the end of the day it’s your guys choice. 2024-12-23 21:02:30 +0000 UTCJ&J PLEASE READ: Seeing as FB completely annihilated this poll I decided to make this post to give insight but also to personally thank you for even putting it on here and giving it a chance…I literally cried over this; hopefully you are reacting to Fruits Basket 2019 as this is the completed series with 3 seasons, this will be your first shojo anime so here is what that means: anime that is typically aimed at a female audience, but many men enjoy it as well (including my brother who is more of a Shonen watcher haha), just as women often enjoy shonen anime which is usually geared towards males i.e. (JJK, Naruto, FMAB etc). Common themes in shojo include: romance, friendship, personal struggles, and coming-of-age stories which we also refer to as slice-of-life genre in anime and they tend to be slow-burns. I recommended this one specifically because of your analytical skills as these characters are far from 2-dimensional and all…even the “background characters” have a story that get’s a deep dive and/or true appreciation. Fun Fact: In Japanese folklore, folding 1,000 paper cranes is said to grant a wish. So the author of Fruba, Natsuki Takaya, said she would always receive fan letters and art begging for a continuation of the series once the manga was completed, back when we only had the 2001 version to watch that ended in the middle of the manga, so she jokingly said she would market for a reboot if she received 1,000 paper cranes. Funny enough fans folded 1,000 paper cranes and sent them to Studio Deen and Hakusensha along with photos of the series and this helped persuade her and because she loved the English voice actors of the 2001 version she begged and insisted on them being re-casted in the reboot and they were! with the exception of a few. (Another reason to watch the dub though I don’t mind the sub either). Quick Tips:Don’t look up the show (I am speaking mainly to you Jordan) all synopsis contain major spoilers, if you HAVE to scratch your itch, you may read the episode description for episode 1. Also Furuba or Fruba are Fruits Basket’s nicknames and FB is also used in reference to it. I will most likely be posting a lot of info to help you along your journey. I hope you will eventually come to see why we all love and enjoy Fruits Basket so much…it may rip your heart out and stomp all over it but it will also fix it up and put it back in good as new and for some; even for the better. (And I promise that not all of my comments will be this long, just give me my moment haha). So sit back, kick your feet up and enjoy the heart-warming rollercoaster that is Fruits Basket!!! 🍙

The country of origin, the culture, the history, the language, the genre, etc., are integral to the creation and deep understanding of any piece of art. Lumping things together does a disservice to critical consumption. I think including any animated media under a single reaction channel is great. However, one should understand details and distinctions of the piece of media one is watching.

Plus, it’s awesome that this is gonna be your first shoujo. Did you know Fruits Basket is one of the best-selling shoujo manga ever and was the first to win the prestigious Kodansha Manga Award? The original 2001 anime only adapted part of the manga, but the 2019 reboot goes all the way to the end, so it's better to react to 2019 version cause its completed. so you get the full emotional rollercoaster. I’m 100% team dub for this one. Laura Bailey as Tohru is perfection her voice is so warm and genuine, it makes Tohru’s kindness feel real. Jerry Jewell absolutely crush it as Kyo too, bringing out all their angst and growth. Also, the reboot’s animation is stunning, and the way it dives deeper into the characters’ backstories will hit you right in the feels. Honestly, I can’t wait to see your reaction you’re in for a ride!

Laura Bailey’s Tohru is pure perfection, and Eric Vale and Jerry Jewell do an amazing job capturing Yuki and Kyo’s struggles. The 2019 version is a must watch since it finishes the whole story and gives all the characters the closure they deserve. Plus, seeing the same cast back after all these years makes it even more emotional.

2024-12-20 02:46:45 +0000 UTCI'm so happy to see Fruits Basket is winning right now, it's obvious that there are hundreds of great anime but getting a Shojo anime that most people would agree is a beautiful story on J&Js radar is everything 🤩 I first watched the original and then went back to read the manga because the anime just missed so much, so then when they did the 2019 reboot I was so happy! It's perfect ❤️ I will advocate for watching in dub and my reasoning is simply that feelings / emotion / tone of voice make a big difference and I worry the guys will misunderstand / read sub in their own way instead of the intended tone. It's not the end of the world, I just do believe the guys might enjoy FB more if they watch in dub, plus the dub is done great 😃

2024-12-19 17:20:54 +0000 UTCRun with the Wind is so under rated!! It's short, just one season of 23 episodes. It is a slice of life where the characters are connected through sports. What I love about is that the characters are NOT high school students, they are 20+ year old attending university on the verge of adulthood which brings its own sorts of problems. The cast of character is diverse and interesting but so is their growth through out the series. The emotional impact of the series reminds me of Haikyuu and as soon as I finished the series I had to rewatch it again. If you have it watched, you should.

2024-12-19 17:11:00 +0000 UTCI voted for Kuroko no Basket cause I know the twins would appreciate watching a basketball anime! It's also more modern but from what I know it's a lot more unrealistic. Slam Dunk is more realistic but I believe it's much older, and the anime never fully adapted the manga. So it doesn't have a true ending. Kuroko no Basket is fully adapted and has a reasonable amount of episodes (3 seasons) as opposed to Slam Dunk which has 100ish episodes but no true ending.
