You going to love this animation. It's one of my best, along side, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Death Note, Naruto, JJk ect ect

2024-12-03 01:22:58 +0000 UTCWhat I love about Arcane is the way the show tells and explains through exposition. It starts at the very beginning by the way Arcane introduces its setting. Our introduction to Piltover focuses on the materialism of the city. We see the city of Piltover but no people. We see the buildings, the airship, the luxurious apartments empty of people. We see all the fancy knickknacks. The focus is luxury, material excess. The scene also gives an exclusionary vibe, the sense that we don’t belong here. Our crew literally do get chased out of the city. The characters’ dialogue is another element of this introduction. Mylo tells us that Piltovans are born lucky. Powder wants to ride in an airship and then Mylo says he wants to shoot one down. This is a place that impresses them but they’re also frustrated by it. On the other hand, in the Undercity scene, people are the focus. The location is highlighted but not the buildings or the inanimate parts. It’s all about the unique characters. Our crew is much more relaxed here and we ultimately see a sense of inclusion. These people have each other’s backs. Arcane really respects the viewer as someone who doesn't need oral explanations for everything. It expects you to pick up via exposition and all the little details (like the masks to breathe), which you guys did impressively well !

There are two main locations as you already picked up : Piltover (or Topside or the Upper City) which is thriving and rich and the Undercity, riddled with crime and hardship. The Undercity isn’t literally underneath Piltover. There is a river on the surface, the Undercity is a slum on the south side of that river that extends downwards. It’s basically just across the river from Piltover. So while a very large portion of the Undercity is literally underground, the area on the surface is still part of the Undercity, even though the surface is at a significantly lower elevation than Piltover. We can see Piltover in the distance when Vi points out locations to Powder when they're on the roof. It makes it under Piltover in the sense that Piltover looms over them from across the river. Of course, that means the Undercity is literally the catch basin of the waste from the city above it. The only separation is a simple river. That’s why Powder was singing "dear friend across the river" in the intro scene when Vander saved them. The details man, the details.

It was animated by the French animation studio Fortiche (proud of my country 🇫🇷) under the supervision of the American video game developer Riot Games. Thanks to interviews made by French journalists, I can give you some info that I can translate for you. The six hours of animation for the first season of Arcane cost between 60 and 80 million euros (63 and 84 million dollars), a budget well above industry standards, which average between 6 and 12 million euros. This price is explained by the time spent on each image of the production. Fortiche only produced between 0.8 and 1 second of animation per day while the industry average is around 6 to 7 seconds per day for a product of this type. The total cost of the series is actually even higher, with expenses related to the actors and the marketing not being included in the estimatation above. As you said, this show is very detailed and I'm actually surprised by all the things you already picked up !

They have a dozen of them in their channel on YouTube, drooping one video every year to give us a history of a specific character or several characters but this show is on another level story wise.

As a player of the game I enjoyed the show on another way because I see these characters everyday when I play. Enjoy the ride this will be a beautiful show. It's a combination of the unique animation, sound design, and world that makes it really stand out. It took 8 years just to put out seasons 1 and 2. Their budget was over $250 million for two seasons, making it the highest budget animation of all time. Although a lot of that went to marketing, etc. It's still a crazy amount to spend on just 18 episodes.

Then the rest of the episode takes place a couple years into the future, and Vander is sort of like a father figure for all of them but especially Powder and Vi. I'm so excited you guys are starting this series, I just finished it and it took me through all types of emotions. Can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of the show!!

2024-12-01 22:23:35 +0000 UTCAs a heads up, there’s a 5 part YouTube series from the makers of Arcane called “Bridging the Rift” that most reaction channels also cover. It’s an incredibly good documentary on how the show was made (voice acting, music, animation, etc.) and each part is about 25-30 minutes. On most channels it’s covered after Season 1 just because that’s when it was released, but I suppose with Season 2 out it may become more common to react to it after that. Would really enjoy a reaction to it from you guys if you can squeeze it in!
