Haikyuu!! 4x22 REACTION! 🤯

Comments

The coach you are trying to recall is Takaaki Anabara, head coach of Johzenji. He was the coach that advocated for Hinata to get some touches when he snuck in to camp during the ball boy arc.

Why does this series make me tear up almost every episode lol? During the intense rally, Hinata saves the ball off the wipe, synchronized attack, and Hinata screams for the set, “Kageyamaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Oh, my heart!😭💗

Catching up!🏐🫶🏻

Thank you so much. It is so nice to finally have someone who agrees with me on Suga and who also acknowledges what he has done. Just so you know you will see a similar but longer version of this comment on episode 24 because no one but me and one other person in the comments mentions Suga's moment and importance and I would like to see what you say there as well.

100%. Even small moments Suga is always helping Hinata grow. In s1 when he helps Hinata on his basics, he talks Hinata into realizing how good Kageyama is, and that they're now allies. Even this season, Suga is the one who first (atleast verbally, i think Kageyama has an internal "whoa..." moment before, or maybe even the whole team) to verbally acknowledge Hinata's crazy growth in at ballboy camp and how proud he is of it. You never realize how much moms do for you in the moment lol

Goose

Yes! I just love how it can resonate with everybody!! It goes beyond sports, while also perfectly describing the phenomenon that is Hinata! 🌞

Neko

rlly well said !! i loveeee the hungry metaphor at the end of this episode, it's def one of my favorite quotes esp after reading the manga. i just think it's a great analogy to describe hinata and his passion for the game

Yeeesssss Hinata! 😭 Suga’s flashback brought all the feels. To see Hinata from Season 1 to now….it was beautiful to reminisce of how far he’s come! What made it even better was seeing the reactions of those who were at the training camp with Hinata before Nationals. They saw what Hinata went through as a ball boy and how seriously he took that position. Now they get to watch him put it all into action - and what better way to show ‘em than at Nationals!

"It's hitting his head?" Believe me, most reactors thought that lol I think nobody predicted Hinata would get a perfect receive! Haikyuu really taught me to be patient and to sink in the process. Especially in this age of social media, where we can get everything so quick, we became more and more impatient (even just to watch Haikyuu ball boy arc lol). I always rewatch Haikyuu back to remind myself about that.

Yes Hinata's receive it was amazing to finally see all his hard work come to fruition even if they did not get the point. Also did you noticed that the last person they show when Karasuno was feeling crushed after that point was Suga and he was about to say it hurts and so much more than Hinata picks them up with his words and once again the first one they show show recovering from Hinata's words and starts laughing is Suga. I truly believe they are doing this to show you how much Suga means to Hinata and that with how much time Suga has spent with Hinata in helping him with his receives since all the way back at the beginning of season 1 and being the one to give Hinata advice and to also be the one to find Hinata when he gets lost and also to be the one 3rd year to keep up with Hinata's craziness with his own chaoticness. Suga is definitely the most important person to Hinata besides Kageyama.

awesome reaction! you know, so many people hate the ball boy arc of hinata, because yes, there is second hand embarassment, some also find it boring, but to me as a player, its probably my favorite arc. Because it throws you right back to the basics. From the very beginning, Hinata mostly had his reflexes and great athletic abilities, but his form and technique for a lot of basic skills like receiving and blocking have been lacking all this time. There is only so far you can go on athleticism alone. The ball boy arc challenged that flaw of his and he had to learn from the start how to deal with the foundation of volleyball (which is exactly what the receiving is. without receive, there is no set, and no attack). And he did it all without actually playing volleyball at the training camp. He watched. Through watching, he learned to read the ball, the spiker, the course. This is what brought him to this very moment. It's such an essential part of Hinata's development that makes him go from an energetic miracle-boy to an actual solid player. the twins talked about how volleyball is like eating food, and i believe they are only partially right. Eating food doesnt require thinking, its an instinct. you do it subconsciously. And yes, volleyball is a sport that relies on instincts a lot, but to get to those instincts first, you gotta start thinking. It always starts with trying to actually understand what youre doing. Thinking about what is going on, over and over again. Which is exactly what Hinata did during the ball boy arc. And one day, those thoughts become instincts. only at that point, you could compare volleyball to eating food. although im sure you could apply that to most sports.

And now we get the pay off for the Ball Boy Arc. Such good writing. And we are not done yet. Every step no matter how small brings you closer to achieving your goal and those small steps build up leading you to eventually achieve your goal. Each person's journey is different, some may take 1000 steps to reach their goal and other may only need 100 but eventually you both can reach the same place. A Piton is just a peg or spike driven into rock or crack to support a climber or rope as the climber ascend up a mountain. Hinata has had lots of support (his pitons) along his journey from Ball Boy to finally achieving his receive in this episode. So many great wisdom drops in the last couple of episodes, that make you stop and think about how they apply to real life.

Hey! Great reaction as always! For clarity, a piton is a metal spike that climbers embed into a crack or seam of the cliff side. It’s used as an anchor in case climbers fall or to help them in their climb. That’s the metaphor the Japan coach was making. Basically, everything Hinata has been working towards has led to this moment. When the twins manage to pull off minus tempo attack: reverse, Atsumu tells Osamu that they maybe the can finally try the “Sky Love Hurricane.” This is a reference to popular sports manga Captain Tsubasa. It’s about soccer and in the story there are a pair of twins who pull off a move called “Skylab Hurricane.” I wouldn’t say it’s a realistic move. But I’m sure the twins saw some fictional twins pull off this crazy move when they were kids and wanted to try it for themselves 😆 Thanks for the reaction! Been enjoying the content very much and I look forward to Thursday every week!

also - Over the next few episodes we get regular glimpses of "the watchers", they're all people/teams from Miyagi prefecture that are invested in Karasuno or Hinata after being beaten by him/them. I had a really hard time identifying some of them on the first watch, but it turned out that mostly all of them are from the first year training camp. Here's a quick run down: 1) Grey jacket and glasses is the coach from Johzenji (the orange team in S2 that just wanted to have fun). He was one of the main coaches at the First Year's training camp and was the one that kept pushing the Shiratorizawa coach to acknowledge Hinata. 2) The guy sitting alone in the green sweatshirt is "2 meter tall guy". He's the one Hinata helped at the training camp by teaching him to "take it easy". 3) Purple track jackets are Shiratorizawa. The main watcher with black hair is Goshiki, the "other ace" after Ushijima. 4) Teal & White track jackets are the two first years from Aoba Johsei (Seijo), Kindaichi & Kunimi. Both played with Kageyama in junior high and became friendly with Hinata at the training camp. **BOLO for Date Tech, Oikawa being his salty self, and a few others that you'll probably recognize. ;) Sorry for the essay!!

Neko

Hi J&J! Just want to start by saying I'm so grateful for your reaction videos. I found you through Haikyu, but I'll be sticking around for whatever other anime you choose to watch. I'm completely charmed by your warmth and candor and it's so refreshing to see folks that seriously consider other perspectives and resist snapping to judgement. TLDR - you guys are great. Thank you!! The "Hungry" metaphor in this episode is one of my favorites from the show. Enjoying a meal is truly something that is universally enjoyed. No matter who a person is, they will always be happy to eat when they are hungry, and that happiness doesn't wane over time. We've seen so many examples of how Hinata's joy and hunger for the game are contagious. It shows how special he is, but also reminds everyone watching that sharing your passion and joy can lift up those around them. We should all be so lucky as to have that effect on others. <3

Neko

I don't know if you remember, but in season 1 Nishinoya told Hinata that the crowd gets the most hyped for a crazy receive, not for insane spikes. At 17:54 that's Hinata felling it for the first time, when the crows goes nuts behind him.
