Still catching up!

I love how we are in the 4th season and are still being introduced to new concepts in Haikyuu, which adds more layers to the game.

seeing hinata read where the ball is going or how a hitter is going to spike/tip it is majorrr. it's been mentioned and shown to us many times how hinata seems to have "animal-like" instincts and just moves based off his senses, but during his short time as a ball-boy where he quietly observed great players playing, he has been able to quickly pick up how to read attacks. now he's attempting to actually act on it by trying to receive it (which we've been shown many times from the beginning is something hinata has had a hard time with), but clearly is struggling a little since he didn't have much time to put it into practice before this but his struggle is what makes this show so realistic, ofc he's not gonna get it right the first few times. he's trying tho and if you guys see the reactions of his teammates, noya is the one who has noticed the most (which makes sense w him being the libero and all) hinata has been passionate for this sport from episode one and it's always been so gratifying to witness. however, as the seasons progress, we see him learn more and more about volleyball (along w us as the audience). we're seeing this kid in real time fall more in love w this game while also raising his volleyball iq up and i just can't emphasize enough how satisfying it is !!

Right after Suga made that amazing dig to keep the rally going we are shown the 1st Karasuno captain from the 3rd years 1st year remembering what the 3rd years said in their introductions during their first year and ending it with "Thanks for having us". Then in comes back to the present showing Asahi, Suga, and Daichi on the court together for the final point in the final set showing the determination that they had back when they made their declaration to make Nationals back in their 1st year. Then it flashes right back to the same captain in a flashback saying to our favourite 3rd years back in their 1st year "If the opportunity comes. Make sure you grab it" then it cuts back to the present showing Hinata being a decoy for Asahi's back attack and right before Asahi spikes the ball it cuts right back to their former captain once again in a flashback saying my 2nd favourite quote from Haikyuu "Opportunities present themselves to those who are prepared." My favourite being "Talent is something you bloom. Instinct is something you polish." said by Oikawa back in season 2. Karasuno definitely prepared themselves for this opportunity to not only be in Nationals but to also win their 1st match in which their talents have definitely bloomed and their instincts polished. Can't wait for next weeks reaction. LET"S GO

Hi J&J! Its been crazy at work for me this month and the next few, but whenever I can, I try to catch up on watching all your videos (BTS and Anime) and they keep me going so THANK YOU! This episode reminded me of the 1st time I watched and was surprised at the underhand serve. I remember my VB days, where we started off practising underhand serves in the beginning because they are usually relatively easier to get the ball across the net, compared to overhand serves which require more upper body strength. I was surprised when Haikyuu 'introduced' underhand serve so late into the series (only at Season 4, and at the Nationals), when this was not mentioned or shown in the first 3 seasons. Even VB players may easily forget the existence of an underhand serve, because its rarely used or shown in competitions. Something basic but yet powerful/effective if applied correctly i.e. to get the ball up as high as possible, but to keep it within the perimeters of the court (meaning if the opponents fail to receive it, it still lands IN the court). That says a lot about how much practice is needed to do an underhand ceiling serve. One of the many reasons why I love this series so much. I tried to keep it short LOL! Remember to take breaks! Love you guys! 💜🙏

“Back minus tempo” means that Hinata did the same speed of attack that they usually do for his super quick, but he did it from the back row instead since he was playing in the back row. Thanks for making my Thursdays so motivating and full of light!

When Daichi hit the ball up with his knuckles, that’s what we call a “pokey” in volleyball. In beach volleyball, a player is not allowed to tip the ball with an open palm unlike in indoor volleyball. So using a “pokey” with your knuckle is a common and legal tactic to tip the ball.

I only play rec league volleyball but there are for sure underhand serves that are hard to receive!

I love how they connected the flashback of the old captain saying "if the opportunity comes. Make sure you grab it!" Then as we see both Suga and Asahi touch the ball in the last rally, the old captain says"Opportunities present themselves to those who are prepared." Our third years took what their old captain said to heart, then prepared themselves so they grab their opportunity when it presented itself to them.

I love that the captain is saying "our serves" as in the whole team and the other teammate is apologizing in order to take the pressure of the newbie who just shanked it on set point. Wholesome team, 10/10 would play for.
