Coach Anabara (Johzenji High) is the one who notices Hinata’s merging of thought and instinct. Haruichi Furudate’s (author) Episode 3 “Perspective” effectively illustrates that both humility and observation are critical components of an athlete’s skill development. Hinata, who thus far has been labeled single-minded and impulsive, has gained valuable perspective (episode’s title). Not only is he experiencing physical gains, but he’s learning to adopt a strategic mental approach to the game as well. I love how Furudate always takes great care pacing characters’ growth. It’s always slowly but surely rather than rushing them toward victories. His patience as an author makes his characters all the more endearing.
