Team Spider: Chrollo, Feitan, Shalnark, Phinks (Uvo would probably fit into this group too). They align with the Chrollo’s original mission statement. He’s the head of the spider and his orders are paramount but he doesn’t necessarily have more value than any other leg of the spider. The survival of the spider is the most important objective. Meloldy read his heartbeat and confirmed Chrollo is completely okay with dying and someone else taking his place as long as the spider remains intact. He truly believes he has no value as a hostage because he’s so confident the Troupe members will act like the spider he envisioned when he created the Troupe. He has a thought where he says “ Don’t hesitate Pakunoda, bring everybody”. Based on his mission statement for the Troupe, they should. With the aid of Pakunoda’s memories, they could easily overpower Kurapika and kill him, but that would kill Chrollo in the process. Team Save Chrollo: Pakunoda, Nobunaga, Machi, Shizuku, Kortopi. These are the members where Chrollo became more than just the head of the spider. They actually care about him on a personal level and don’t want him to die. They want to follow Kurapika’s orders as closely as possible, have a successful hostage exchange, and thus keep Chrollo safe. They’re members who have grown more attached to Chrollo as a leader than even Chrollo has anticipated. As Pakunoda put it: “we still need him”. To these members, saving the spider actually means saving Chrollo. What’s interesting is that both Chrollo and Kurapika may not have an accurate understanding of the Troupe. Chrollo is overestimating the spider like efficiency of the Troupe that he tried to instil in them and underestimating the heart they have towards him, and other members in the Troupe. Kurapika may be also making the same mistake by overestimating the Troupe’s bloodthirstiness while underestimating the emotional feelings they have towards their fellow members which is pretty interesting.
