2024-07-21 01:08:49 +0000 UTCkinda really long comment incoming (my bad) but the comment jordan made on gon feeling a bit scared when killua started walking towards johness got me thinking about him as a character. we’ve seen our sweet green jelly bean come into contact with death various times already: to start, when people were dying around him during phase 2, whether by the aforementioned creatures or by loosing their grip on the giant web. we weren’t shown any indication of gon being shaken by their deaths in the least. gon’s attitude and behavior around killua also has not changed at all after learning he was an aspiring assassin. his face doesn’t change once in disgust nor fear while killua talks to him about it; he just sits and listens (and laughs here and there💀). when killua walks up to the mass murderer, gon’s face is not showing any particular emotion at all. he’s just waiting, and watching. and lastly, after watching killua remove a person’s heart and place it in their dead hand, his only reaction is ‘oh right! you guys didn’t know that he comes from a family of assassins.’ and notably, his simple awe at killua's manipulation of his hand and talk of how much more incredible his father is (compared to leorio's unease and kurapika's caution.) i also think because it’s anime and the medium is drawings, it might still be hard to deduce facial expressions at times, at no fault of anyone’s. but you’ll probably know when a character is truly expressing fear, big or small. what can look like a ‘frown’ does not necessarily denote one. even in our real world that is just most people’s natural resting face! i say all this to say that if you really take a step back and observe gon going forward i think you’ll be surprised by what you find. i'm curious to see how your guys’ feelings about him develop as we go on. sort of how a previous comment shed light on the dubious morality of the hunter exam, i want to encourage you guys to consider the unclear morality of the characters as well, every one of them, protagonist or antagonist. i think it’s just one more key element that really brings hunter x hunter to life hehe

That’s a cold character right there 🥶🔥 Also blondies for the win (Kurapika and Armin). Kurapika been spitting with his knowledge since episode one. And I also can’t wait to see more of his darker side when his rage surfaces. He’s always so composed but last episode we saw even more of what he’s like when his anger takes over. Opponents shouldn’t get it twisted, that’s a dangerous guy.

2024-07-20 01:21:10 +0000 UTCi prefer the anime adaptation of this scene than how it went down in the manga. in the manga killua takes the bare heart and just crushes it in his hand as the dude watches. killua gently giving back the useless heart, humiliating him even in death was so satisfying. he really is a menace lol. the irony of it all too. this johness guy murdered his victims with bare hands and his strength was emphasized only to have lil killua just come in like "lol amateur". GOOD STUFF. this is when i officially locked into the show on my first watch.
