Y’all should’ve seen the way I was looking at the screen when Jinwoo killed those guys. I literally had half my face covered with one hand, jar dropped and all. Omggg CHILLSS. The bg music, the calmness in his voice, the speed, the dialogue!!!! Helloooo, JINWOO IS ONE COLD CHARACTER 🥶🥶

man its good to be back, in regards to bears and bear spray you'd be lucky if it actually works. if you live in the us and are allowed by local and state laws a handgun would work but not small calibers like 9mm you'd need at least a 10mm or a big revolver especially when faced with a grizzly
Jinwoo is the goat, fight me

The reason jinwoo gave his sister the umbrella is because his perception is growing and there is no specific way to accurately quantify his stats vs. everyone else is kind of just a guess. So he gave her the umbrella because without actually knowing his perception helped his sister all that time later

I think if Jinwoo wasn't being forced by this "system" he would still have killed those guys.. but its understandable in his situation because if he didn't then he'd be the one dying.. Its either hunt or be hunted.
After watching this episode I can't get the innocent image of his smiling face back in episode 1 out of my head for some reason XD

That fight scene was everything, with Jinwoo's calm, haunting voice plus the timing of the background music - GOOSEBUMPS!! 😨 I felt the same as Jordan at the beginning, not wanting Jinwoo to kill these people but I guess somehow they brought it upon themselves. If he didn't have to kill them, maybe he would just injure them enough for him and Jinho to escape. I love Jinwoo's character, and love that he met Jinho too. 💜

Thank you for this J&J! And amazing comments from our lovely patrons as always 🫶
Kill, or be killed. Whether they are monsters, or humans. I agree with Lauren that Jinwoo wouldn’t have killed them if he didn’t have to.
Maybe that’s why he ended them so quickly. Might not have been the least painful way to die but compared to what he went through in the double dungeon (first few eps), I think they didn’t suffer as much before dying 🤷♀️ Just my two cents of thought 💜🙏🏻

Yeah i know it's a cultural thing. When i said it would be strange, I meant to western audiences. But yeah, I guess you're right, not knowing the meaning of hyung and seeing big brother on the screen would have been pretty confusing.

They're not going to change it I just really appreciated hyung in the manhwa and tbh it's not really weird especially in the culture but I think reading the subtitles as big brother without understanding the meaning behind hyung would have thrown ppl for a loop. Idk whenever I hear Aniki my brain automatically goes to Dororo but they translated Aniki to bro in Dororo

No because there's a biology based explanation behind why different tastebuds like/dislike different things and as someone who went to school for genetics I'm not going to argue with something that has logic and fact backing it lol

haha popular media, yeah i agree. But am I edgy for hating peanut butter?

I have a toddler I've learned which battles are useless lol Though I've found that ppl who are vehemently against things that are popular are typically trying to be "edgy"

hahaha fair enough. You have stronger will power than me. I would never wanna go against you in a haki battle. I had to get into the argument. Though it wasn't very productive.
Lukas Moser
2024-07-15 00:59:57 +0000 UTC
yeah, true but then people would be a little confused. I can see the logic behind translating Aniki as Boss, if it is to set up their growing relationship. It would be kind of strange if Jinho randomly started calling him big brother. So maybe in the anime, the translation will change later when they become much closer.
Although, I don't really believe this to be true since by episode 10/11, their relationship is already at a point where big brother makes much more sense.

I think I know what you're talking about and I just quietly disagreed because if I had let myself it would have been an argument lol. I have an appointment with an artist in a year and a half now (two when i booked) for a full tattoo sleeve of some of my favorite characters from animes and my pfp is going to be majority forearm. So I obviously feel some type of way about this story

Tbh I would not have been mad if they had kept Hyung and just said everything else in Japanese.

yeah i saw someone who commented on one of the first episodes here, who was saying that the Solo Leveling manhwa is "empty". Which is kind of frustrating to hear. But I guess it just means not everyone cares about any kind of depth. Some people need specific kinds of depth.
Lukas Moser
2024-07-15 00:33:25 +0000 UTC
yep, i would go so far as to say it definitely adds no plot points to the story, it is just a recap episode. Hunter x Hunter episodes 13 and 26 are the same. Completely skippable.

If it's a lone bear it varies from breed to breed just pray you never come across a mother with her cubs but yes definitely play dead with momma

If the bear has cubs with her, play dead. If it's a lone bear, you won't have to play.

I'll just mention a few things to clear some things up, although I'm sure other helpful commentors have already done so.
Jinho calls Jinwoo "Aniki", which in the manhwa is translated as "big brother". In my opinion a much better translation. Although it is kind of cute how the anime translates it as "boss".
Dungeons shut down some time after the boss is defeated, it's not a specific amount of time, so in this case it was just coincidental that the dungeon started shutting down as soon as Dongsuk was killed.
When the spider was about to slam down on Jinwoo and he randomly seemed to have healed, it's because he used "full recovery". This is one of the three rewards he gets for completing his daily quest. Last episode you saw Jinwoo run to the dungeon gate and as he got there, there was a quick flash of the system saying he had completed his daily quest and the rewards were ready. But he was interrupted by Dongsuk's crew introducing themselves so he never accepted the rewards. Hence, in the dungeon he was lucky to have that reward available.
Lastly, you missed something about the dagger he has. It has two skills, Paralysis and Drain. When he got the dagger, you read the Paralysis description and were impressed by it, but you didn't read what Drain does. Drain is far more powerful. When it's effect activates the target loses 1% of its health per second. This is insane, it means that when the effect is activated, the target will die within 100 seconds.
One suggestion, when the screens pop up with new skills or new gear, I would always pause to read it. Sooner or later you might miss something important.
Anyway great video as always lads. Peace

I think this is one of the anime’s where the dub is also phenomenal. Another anime is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, the dub is considered by many as better the the sub, not meaning the sub is bad in any way. Anyways, it’s definitely an anime to look into once you finish this amazing anime. Love the reactions yall!

Nothing to do with the reaction (it was great as always) but I just wanted to suggest maybe a Sunday replacement once finishing SL season 1 an anime called Helsing Ultimate, it's more a mini series with only 10 episodes but it's great imo and sticks with the dark themes of SL and the supernatural with also political/religious undertones, think you guys would really love it

Sorry for all of the comments but I think 1000% he wouldn't have killed them if he didnt have to.
Jinwoo has so many beautifully innocent moments, like being confused as to why Jinho was calling him boss after he defeated the boss spider, or not grasping why the nurse was asking for his number i.e. saying that she must need it to call him about his test results. That are the complete opposite to how bada** he is that it's almost comical but somehow this story uses it to balance how drastically different he is to when we first met him, to how he is even now in terms of skill.
He has such a strong moral compass that I think he would have fully just subdued them and been on his merry way with Jinho, mind you I don't think that means he's a pushover, he was obviously angry about the situation but so far we've seen a guy with a rigorous sense of right and wrong, who cares deeply for his sister and rolls with the punches that life throws at him as best as he can.
I think the actor portrayed him shutting off his emotions, is how I would describe it, to get through killing the six really well. I always took the deadened sound of his voice to be he was distancing himself from what he was doing and even then he had to take a moment to process after he killed the first one.
A lot of people I've seen have said the show and the manhwa for that matter don't have any real substance to them and are really just fan service and action oriented to keep people entertained (I saw a comment somewhere where someone likened it to transformers, fun to watch but no real substance) and I've got to say I disagree wholeheartedly. Jinwoo as a character alone has so much growth and development and just depth to him that he's one of my favorite MCs in any manhwa or story for that matter.

Now that we've hit episode 6, I want to make note of something that is subtle in this show. This "system" that gives Jin-woo the ability to level up in real time apart from anyone else. The system seems highly intelligent and hell bent on performing one job, and that is to ensure that Jin-woo gets stronger, no matter the cost. The quest penalty for not "eliminating", or killing, these crooks, was that his HEART WILL STOP. The system so far doesn't give a shit about human life. It cares only about seeing how far Jin-woo will go....how many lines he'll cross...how many humans he'll kill. What happens if the system tells him to kill someone he doesn't want to kill? Or perhaps tell him to save someone not worth saving? Does free will matter anymore when the "system" has your hands tied in a "solo" game of leveling up?
On a second note, episode 7 is coming up, and after that is episode "7.5" (or episode 8 on IMDB). This 7.5 episode is a recap episode and includes pretty much no added plot to the overall story. It is entirely optional on yall's part if you want to watch the recap episode, but in my opinion, its not necessary at all. Other viewers here seeing this message, let J&J know your opinion on it too.

Hey, so I hope yall are never in a situation where you have to figure out what to do for what type of bear but if you are and it comes down to bear spray or a pistol I'd go with the bear spray. It's like pepper spray on steroids as far as strength and area the spray covers. Bears have so much body mass that unless you're an exceptional shot you're more likely to aggravate the animal than anything. And even the best marksman in a high adrenaline situation like that is going to have trouble. I'm gonna stick with hoping that you're never in that situation but if you do go hiking, camping etc where there are bears, read up on what to do with each breed, carry bear spray as a last resort and always take proper precautions with food storage because those suckers have some noses on them

I don't know if you remember this but I messaged you about this episode and now you know why this episode is one of my favourite episodes. Jinwoo's fight against Hwang Dongsuk's entire team and then Hwang, himself and the song Dark Aria was the perfect choice for that scene no song could or would have done better. Could you show/react to the English dub part from after Jinwoo is attacked( where he is just lying on the mana crystals) to the end of the fight. If not then just the part where he is facing Hwang Dongsuk himself. Aleks Le does such an amazing job and you have shown clips in past video of the English dub.
Once again I love your guys reactions they always make my day and put a smile on my face whether it is with Solo Leveling or Haikyuu you guys never fail to make me happy even when I am having a bad day so thank you and keep doing an amazing job guys

When sung jinwoo said “ I’m glad I gave her that umbrella” he meant he was glad to give his sister the umbrella early in the morning before going to school.
