Thanks, J&J. Haikyu!! is a warm hug every Thursday. I can’t watch an episode without experiencing a smile or a tear. Secure attachment (a well-raised child who grows into a healthy adult capable of maintaining healthy relationships) occurs best when a child’s primary caregiver allows room for the child to explore and express themselves beyond familial expectations. Agree! Pigeon holing a child into the interests of the family is a disservice. Reminds me of Coach Bolton in “High School Musical” lol. Come on, Dad, Troy can ball AND sing in the Twinkle Towne musical!!!!😂

I want to know who you have in mind, Jake! I have two and they are yet-to-be-revealed characters too. Man, it’s such a tough question. Are we talking only BBIQ and relentless defensive skills or are we including sportsmanship and a role as the “villain” or antagonist on the court? Haikyu!! is a unique series lacking a true villain who carries themselves in a manner which results in a poor reputation with other players or the audience. Naming an accomplished defensive player would be easy if I didn’t have to take into account Bev’s soft skills, too.☺️

Hey great reaction as always! In the discussion about Japanese names, Angelica brought up a great point in the comment below. But actually Japanese names not only tell us about the relationship between people but also say a lot about their personality. You know, sometimes, even with close friends, it can feel a bit weird to call them by their first name. Especially for Japanese boys, who tend to change the way they address their friends after middle school (this is real 🤣). When it comes to Nishinoya, I think his way of addressing Ennoshita is more about his personality than just how close they are. Nishinoya usually calls most people by their first names, like Shoyo for Hinata and Ryu for Tanaka (well its actually Ryunosuke so it's shortened), except for a few, like Kageyama, Tsukishima, and Suga. Speaking of Suga, it's kind of a nickname because his actual last name is Sugawara. I think Nishinoya just goes with what feels natural to him when it comes to addressing people, rather than it being about how close they are. Oh, and here's a fun fact! Everyone in Karasuno calls Tsukishima by his actual last name, but only Yamaguchi calls him "Tsukki," which is a nickname. And guess what? Kuroo and Bokuto also call him "Tsukki," to tease and annoy him lol

To answer your PatBev question, there's a player that comes to mind but they won't show up till an OVA.

I think J&J are confused because they are not used to people being called primarily by their last name as it is by default in the Japanese culture. If someone is close to you or on the same level as you they are usually refered to by their first name, but if you just met someone or you're not as familiar with them or they're on a higher level than you, like for example the third years, then people will normally call you by your surname, this is their respectful manner to address someone. It's a little strange at first but if you get that concept down, then you will not get confused anymore, in this case Ennoshita (lastname) Chikara (first name) is his full name, if you look closely you'll see that people like Nishinoya or the other second years who are on the same level as him call him Chikara, by his first name, and the first years call him by his last name out of respect because he's someone on a higher level, the third years go by either Chikara or Ennoshita depending on on the relationship each have with him. I know it can be confusing at times but once you get used to it, you will be able to infer the closeness of the relationship between the characters just by how they refer to each other, either by their first names or last names or what type of honorific they use with each other (san, kun, chan, senpai, sama... No honorific at all, etc) the closer people are, the more informal they talk to one another in the Japanese language. Hope this helps a bit, I enjoy all of your reactions and I will continue to support and enjoy this journey with you guys. Greetings from Colombia! ❤️

I’m confused why y’all are confused about first and last names 🤣

Ennoshita Chikara is his full name

Funnily enough, the very first person to joke about Daichi's death was the Haikyuu author, Furudate, before that scene was even published. Their editor recalled Furudate showing them a draft of that frame with Daichi down on the floor and cheerfully asking, "Doesn't he look like a corpse?" x) (It was probably mentioned before, but Furudate's a horror fan, so it shows occasionally) Notably, the author went through a turmoil similar to Ennoshita's, so that whole flashback is somewhat personal. There was that line, "Then don't show up in your class uniform" (which the Karasuno captain said to Ennoshita when he came back and asked to let him join practice again) — apparently, someone actually said that to the author in the past as well, and they included it here. Also, on the off chance no one mentioned it earlier, Ennoshita's full name (Ennoshita Chikara) has a bit of word play in it — there's a saying "en no shita chikara mochi", which means "unsung hero". One of my favorite things about Haikyuu is how it never claims to have the right answers for everyone and never imposes any opinions/values on the viewers. You see it here with Ennoshita recalling how for some first-years, quitting the volleyball club was the right decision, and during the training arc, where Bokuto, after explaining his outlook on the game and winning to Tsukishima, notes that it doesn't necessarily apply to anyone, etc.

I was so distracted by AOT I forgot it was Haikyu Thursday 😂 I love that the further into the show the more you'll get to know everyone on a deeper level 🩷 I love Ennoshita, he's a gem
