I'm now an old 30some year old and I can say this show changed the way I looked at the world, other countries, individuals of other countries. It made me realize that despite how vast the world is, it's still so small and we shouldn't spend our time spreading hatred because together we are stronger.

2024-06-11 04:09:35 +0000 UTCNarrow minded viewpoint, yes war makes people do terrible things and desperation is a major factor, Connie saw an opportunity to bring back his mom after 4 years of her being in pain and him being in pain seeing her like that. I thought it was a beautiful portrayal from isayama to show that even the best people can go mad and try to do something selfish and terrible. Connie became a much better character imo from this ep onwards

2024-06-11 03:31:38 +0000 UTCAnother thing that should be apparent at this point is how the phrase "shinzo wo sasagayo" has had its meaning twisted over the course of season 4. A good comparison to the real world is like how we sometimes say "oh my god". There's a literal meaning behind that statement that might have been used in the past, but overusing it has spread its usage past the religious context and destroyed the literal meaning behind the phrase, so now we use it as an exclamation. Similarly with "shinzo wo sasagayo", it's now being used broadly so it's original meaning has become twisted. Before, it was a call to all soldiers to dedicate their hearts to a noble cause, but now it's become a war cry that incites violence while also being used as propaganda by the Jagerists. It has lost the meaning that was given to it by people like Erwin.

2024-06-11 02:26:49 +0000 UTCI have a slight issue with this episode with how suddenly they reintroduced Annie back into the main gang. I wish they cut some time from other scenes and gave us some back-and-forth dialogue between Armin, Connie, and Annie talking about what happened in the past and how what they thought of each other in the past basically means nothing in the present in the grand scale of the current situation at hand. The scouts have done worse than Annie at this point so this discussion would make sense since it just felt pretty sudden having Annie appear in front of Armin and Connie only to join their team 20s later with no questions being asked. Other than that, it's still insane to think that after everything in the past 70+ episodes, we'd have the original 104th cadet crew back working together.

2024-06-11 02:14:36 +0000 UTCThe first time I watched the scene of Armin sacrificing himself I got mad, I thought:"wtf are you doing, Armin? we let Erwin die just to let you live with the Colossal!" but then I started rewatching the show through the eyes of reactors and realised Armin,initially, really had only 2 options. 1 - Let Conny feed Falco to his mom and who knows what would have happened after that regarding Gabi & Marley side 2- Kill Conny's mom(i thought this was his plan) but this isn't a good choice either. We know since the very beginning Conny isn't a bright individual(like Kevin pointed out already) so "forcing" him to understand by killing his own mother is a terrible choice. He would have gone nuts and might have ended up trying to kill or killing Armin/Gabi/Falco and/or getting killed in the process. Conny was in the top 10 of their class, Armin can't 1v1 him physically. Even if he transforms he would just blow the whole place up, killing everyone in the process. So, killing his mom isn't an option. Then, we see him getting a flashback to Erwin as if to say:" What would Commander Erwin do in this situation?" What do we know about Erwin? He is a betting man, he gambles. So Armin thought:"Wait a minute, i'm the COLOSSAL. I can make Conny's mom turn back into a human." Backed into a corner, he decides to gamble in honor of our man Erwin Smith. This was the only way to show Conny, a not so bright individual, why sacrificing a kid to save someone dear to him isn't a choice anyone should ever make. Armin didn't know for sure Conny was going to choose to save him(I don't think he would've frozen up, at this point Conny is a veteran soldier) but he calculated the probabilities(https://giphy.com/gifs/filmeditor--the-hangover-movie-3owzW5c1tPq63MPmWk) and concluded this was the option with higher probability of success. Man, it's extremely difficult to rank AoT episodes. Every episode is as good if not better than the BEST episode in most shows.

2024-06-11 00:17:58 +0000 UTCi can completely empathize with conny's reckless desperation in trying to save his mom. my mom is my favorite person and i love her more than anyone else, so when i ask myself how far i would go to save her life, well.. i know myself well enough to know i am a selfish creature and realistically i WOULD trade the life of someone else for hers in a similar situation. and just like with conny's mom, i know my mom would not approve of it at all, but i know in my heart i'd do it anyway just to not lose her. on another note, (and i do apologize because i am struggling to word this) i love very much that when faced with that situation, armin was thinking "what would commander erwin do?" it was a very brief flash of we got of erwin commanding his troops and not flinching in the face of adversity. makes me remember the amazing scene where the titan grabs erwin by his arm and even through the pain, erwin orders the scouts to advance. he was a man pursuing his dream but even in the mouth of a titan accepted the situation for what it was and pushed on the troops onwards. when armin decided to to take falco's place in a last ditch effort to save him, he accepted the situation for what it was and took action to do whatever was in his power to do. i still miss erwin very much and i am glad his unyielding will lives on through armin in tough times like these.

The jaegerists use armbands to identify people like in Marley, they think that their bloodline is superior to other races, and they imprison and execute those who disagree with them. Not to mention Floch terrorizing people and asserting his authority through fear and brutality like a cult leader. It’s so satisfying how Onyankopon rightfully calls them out. They're a dangerous group of extreme nationalists and are the complete opposite of patriots. “A patriot is proud of his country for what it does; a nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does”. Patriotism creates a sense of accountability and unity while nationalism breed blind arrogance, devotion, and superiority.

I LOOOOOVE Armin so much, I'm so happy when you show your love toward him XD (Of course to other characters too!) Quick thing, this is a friend of mine that loves Connie so much thought when she saw the scene: At Ragaco, when Connie was thinking how to get Falco up to his mother's mouth. Connie told Falco "Let's brush this titan's teeth together!" and got out two deck brushes at the same time. My friend thought, that was just a normal thing to do for him because he got out the brushes like nothing, although it looked kind of "idiotic" to us... but the fact he took out "two brushes", it felt like "maybe someone was brushing his mother's teeth with him when he wanted to." ...Yes, maybe we know who that "idiot" was. The "twins" love to each other is so heart touching. I'm glad Connie remembered what kind of individual he was: kind, funny and the brightness of this show.

After saving Armin, Conny says to him that he wants to be a soldier his mom would be proud of, so Connie delivering those words at the end "To save the world" hit 100 times harder ❤️ Also, it was very endearing to see Conny's reaction to Annie stuffing her face with food... I would bet anything that it reminded him of Sasha and couldn't contain his laughter 😄💕

I admit, part of me judged Connie, and another part wanted the story to focus on the “bigger” issues like the Rumbling. After many rewatches with reactors though, my opinion completely changed. Up until now, Season 4 has been an exhausting effort of our characters in trying to determine the “best” thing to do. Ever since Season 1, Connie has been the “idiot” of the group. Hell, even Shadis says he’s lacking mental agility in episode 4. But Connie has always fully accepted this, and decides to put his full trust in his friends and follow their decisions instead. It makes perfect sense that this is the moment he breaks. This whole time following others, and look where it’s gotten him. His family dead, his mom a Titan, countless friends betraying him, Eren destroying the world, Yaegerists taking over. For the first time, Connie just says screw this, I’m going to do what I want. I don’t have time to think whether it’s moral, or logical, or good, I just want my mom back. It’s ironically actually pretty intelligent. If all the “smart” ideas led to this utter disaster, then why not try doing a “dumb” idea? I also love its resolution. Connie sticks with his conviction of a “simple” idea, but channels it into a better one: “Let’s go save people in trouble.” After looking at it through this lens, I really appreciate this storyline more, as it really shows that all ideas were explored in the series, the smart and the dumb ones.

It's not explicitly said in the show, but Ackermans are the result of Titan science in a sense. It's why they're crazy strong and resilient. So even if he did drink it, it wouldn't have affected him. The English dub phrases Hange's wording a bit different: "you Ackermans are built different than the rest of us." Also, Levi is an avid tea drink so he can assume he didn't drink it because he already had tea.
