2024-10-21 18:46:44 +0000 UTCCarmen is correct. This anime was based on a Korean manhwa (manga)/ web novel written by Chugong. It also has a title in Korean that means "Only I Level Up". That's why the plot took place in Korea and the names were Korean. It's just Japan that picked it up and turned it to an animation. The opening theme song was even sung by TXT with a Japanese artist, I believe. I actually love this mix, one of my top 3 animes so far.

2024-07-26 04:28:04 +0000 UTCi mean their are still no great, if yiou take empty literraly as meaning "nothing" yes there is a plot and a story and you will ask urself a few question, but is still at a very low level if i make sense, (not my language either ahah) i mean the number of question you said we could have in the entire manhwa is not even close than the number of question someone will have halfway the first season of some manga, (just to give few exemple lets said Berserk, SNK, Kingdom, Kaiji ect...) the panel are beautifull, the combat scene are good too, but it is "just" a power trip, (or power fantasy as you said), now did everything need to have a deep plot to be good ? absolutly not, most sport manga for exemple dont have deep plot think about Major, Hajime no hippo, Haikyuu, but for anime sport the character developement is insanly important, SL also fail in this one, there is only ONE character we will follow and pass the very early he will prety much no develope anymore and stay the same 80% of the manhwa, stronger yes but thats all, so SL dont have a strong plot, he doesnt have a complexe sotry, (the thing you said earlier i would call that a story not a complexe one, whitout that he wouldnt have a story at all, so yes SL do have a story, not a complexe story) and dont have strong character devlopment either, thats why a lot of people find it mid IMO, but he do have realy good design and panel, and it have one of the best visual you would find in a manhwa, but i'm probably not the target tbf, the strong point of SL is in what you had call "art" the visual to be short, and is the one thing i dont care in any media, even in game i know people care but i genualy cant understand why, probably cause most of my game of heart are in SNES and PS1 x) i'm also unable to understand most art (in paint or architecture for exemple) so i guess the visual isnt sometime who talk to me hope i didnt repeat myself to much and make sense, my english is bad so i will said it, i lack vocabulary to use tact but i doesnt mean hate or disrespect either :p

But you didn't say "empty plot-wise", you said "The manhwa (comic) is pretty empty". That would include everything about the manhwa not just the plot, it would include the transitions and colouring. But it doesn't matter because as I tried to explain the plot and the manhwa aren't empty. They just feel empty to you. And that is completely fine. You have absolutely every right to your opinion. You just didn't phrase it as an opinion but as a matter of fact. This is the only issue I have with your original comment. Your thinking error is a thinking error, or it is just the language issue. I didn't say your opinions are the thinking error. I said saying there isn't a complex story is the thinking error. Because "SL doesn't have a complex story" isn't phrased as opinion but rather as a fact. If you meant it as an opinion then that's fine, you're just not saying it correctly. And I mean no hate or disrespect either here. English also isn't my first language, it's my fourth, I know how hard it is to learn new languages. As far as I can tell your english is better than many native english speakers.

I never referred to the way it’s colored, the angles or the transitions, those are the greatest i have ever seen, but who cares to be honest: that is not the reason i said “empty”. I said empty plot-wise. Also, of course my take is subjective, it’s “my” take on it after all. You even said i’m right at the beginning. Regardless of the way i worded it, what my words meant are kind of clear, i think. Didn’t you understand what i meant, after all? one more thing: defining my opinion on the story as a “thinking error” is the dumbest thing you said instead. It’s quite literally my opinion, sounds like you are in a way trying to dictate how i should think of it, no disrespect. one of the reason the story sucks is because there’s countless manhwa with the same plot and developments, and since Solo Leveling started getting popular (as a manhwa, before the anime) countless artists started making even more copies as well. I get it, you like the SL manga, but it sounds weird for you to say that i am right and it’s just a “power-fantasy” but then define imy take on the plot as a thinking error. Maybe i am missing something, let’s leave it at that.

Solo Leveling is correctly described as a "power-fantasy", the enjoyment comes from simply seeing the main character get stronger. It's a very typical zero to hero story. It's not very deep, and it's great. "the manhwa is empty" has to be the dumbest thing you said though. The plot not being deep and the entire manhwa being empty are a million miles apart. The SL manhwa is one of the best experiences I've had reading manhwa/manga. The way the colours pop, the angles some shots are displayed in, the transitions the artist creates simply by having you scroll down. As a piece of art, the manhwa is incredible. Saying there isn't a complex story is just the sign of a thinking error you made. What you should have said is that the specific complexities which manhwa presents aren't interesting to you. Where do monsters come from? Why and who creates gates? What's the system? Why is Jin-Woo special? Where/who is his dad? Can mum be saved? What's going on on Jeju? There's plenty of mystery, the depth just doesn't really come from an emotional place but rather from a place of curiosity. Basically tried to describe SL objectively, while being extremely subjective.

2024-06-27 21:10:19 +0000 UTCyeah same actually, when they decided to release season 4 as parts 1, 2 and 3 and then the last 2 episodes and all had like half a year in between I was just like nah, time to read. I'm glad I did. I always read the manga before the anime now, regardless of which show. But yeah, honestly, I cannot recommend the manhwa enough. If you're curious but want to watch with J&J, the first 3/4 chapters are the first 2 episodes. If you give it a go, I'd be interested in your thoughts, especially if you have no experience with manhwa.

I'm pretty sure the second half of season 1 is going to come out around autumn. It might not sound like a long time, but I guarantee many here will start reading the manhwa because they won't be able to wait. And honestly, if you read manga but have never read a manhwa and you like these episodes, Solo Leveling is an incredible intro to manhwa. It's basically manga but instead of pages it's all one long vertical page, and it's in colour. Anyway, I've read the entire manhwa and it is glorious. It's not as deep as some other manga/anime but it is just pure fun.

I hope Johore makes it out with Sung Jinwoo. He seems very smart and I can’t wait to see his arc and how he grows. I’m also interested in Cha Hae-In, I wonder what’s her story gonna be. She seems very humble and like she doesn’t enjoy the attention but I can tell she likes to help people. Oh I’m gonna like this. I like the characters so far. Anticipating Sung Jinwoo will have a transformational character arc. He reminds me of Tokyo Ghoul’s Ken Kaneki (a fave of mine). Cha Hae-in, S-tier huntress and baddy. Loved her entrance. My assumptions: Cannot wait until she connects with Jinwoo. I anticipate their connection, whether it be professional or personal, to be a central part of the storyline?!?!? I’ll stick around for Ep 2! Thanks, J&J, for including OG tier in SL drops.💜🙏🏻💜

Rather than crazy plots and a battle system that makes sense, this Anime is just loved for the fights and story-wise only for the first episodes. The manhwa (comic) is pretty empty, there is no complex story, even though some will try to make it seem that way. so just watch it with enjoying how cool it looks in mind pretty much. just my opinion.

I was excited to be a first time watcher with the twins, but when I saw you guys mentioned the manhwa I couldn’t help but to go read it…holy cow I was hooked and finished it in a day 😆 So now I’m even more excited to watch it! It reminded me of another manhwa Mercenary Enrollment/ Teenage Mercenary (I hope one day it gets animated). That’s my favorite manhwa and now Solo Leveling is up there too 🔥

It is based off the webnovel of the same name Solo Leveling which is a Korean Manhwa, which is like a manga except that is in colour and not black and white. I can't wait for you to react to the rest of the season because it only gets better. Also I don't know if you noticed but the opening theme song is done by TXT. I don't know if you know that they are from Hybe back when Hybe was still Bighit Industries. P.S. there is now also a mobile game based on both the manhwa and anime called Solo Leveling Arise. It is a very fun game and I highly recommend you at least check it out. I also can't wait for your next Haikyuu reaction they always make my day.

It made me think of The Walking Dead comic/TV show and the creator saying on record that the word "zombie" and the whole idea and myths about zombies never came to be in TWD universe, so no movies like Night of the Living Dead or Resident Evil games exist because the concept of the zombie never existed (also why the word zombie is never used by anyone in that universe). I think I forgot my point with this comment but that's ADHD for you 😂 I did say it was a random thought

The art and special effects are so cool! If you guys really like the "fantasy action game" feel of this anime y'all should look into more of the Isekai genre animes. Isekai is a sub-genre of Fantasy anime in which the MC is transported to another world. Although Solo leveling is not considered Isekai, there is several other great animes in that genre where MC gets transported to a fantasy video game world or Novel. I haven't played Runescape but I love Legend of Zelda games and usually this genre reminds me of the BOTW open world adventures. I am a huge fan of this genre 😆

I used to play the old school runescape and was absolutely obsessed with it too! in fact every now and then I still play the game, it brings me a lot of nostalgia. This is my first time watching solo leveling, so far the story is very well written and I think i'm hooked. I cannot wait for the next episode. However, since the anime adaptation is Japanese, they're calling each other by their last names. In the Japanese culture, it's rude to call anyone (that aren't really close) by just their first name. Whereas in the Korean culture, it's rude to call anyone by just their last name. The irony lol. Just an interesting fact for J&J to learn culture wise :)

Sung Jinwoo (Sung is his last name Jinwoo is his first) isn't the only E rank hunter to exist he's just the lowest powered E rank hunter. It kinda works like a grading scale that you would see in an American school system. As far as the correlation between numbers and letters work
