i just realized at 30:05 the thing twitching at the end was the red haired titan holding zeke that he commanded to protect him.... this is the whole reason the red haired titan came back and put him in his belly in 4x16 it regenerated. crazy detail, here i was thinking it was some random titan that zeke commanded when he was on the verge of death. turns out it wasn't, it was just an old titan in zeke's spell.

I’m so glad Jordan remembered Kruger’s words about Mikasa and Armin. Grisha also told Eren “If you want to save Mikasa, Armin and everyone else, you must master this power” way back in season 1 episode 9. The call backs in this series are truly insane.

Since you guys talked about Levi being the only "free" person, I wonder what you guys mean with the word free. I sometimes find it absurd how the word free/freedom is thrown around so casually. It is such a vague concept.
What are the conditions one has to meet to be truly free? If being free is not being controlled/effected by anything than no one can ever be free. There is always going to be something in ones environment that effects how one acts. Where is the line between being free and a slave?
I feel like for a word as vague as freedom looking at each persons subjective view on freedom is very important. What does Eren mean when he says he is free? How do Mikasa and Armin view freedom? They seem to think that Eren isn't acting freely, and is being manipulated. So they have to have a different view on what being free is like. It is very difficult to objectively decide who is the bigger slave or not lol.
I don't think one can truly fully be free ever, which is why it might be more effective to look at what type of freedom we are talking about. One can be emotionally free, physically free, spiritually free and etc. So focusing on a specific type of freedom makes it slightly easier(still pretty darn hard) to decide who in that sense is the free-est.
This might be very deep and difficult to answer but at least it is another point of view to consider. I think keeping this in mind can be beneficial for the show moving forward.
So I am glad you guys say it as "free" but I would love it if you went more into detail what being free means for you guys and how Levi meets those criteria of being one of the free-er characters.
Otherwise, thanks for these amazing reactions and love ya!

I think your characterization of Eren is too leading for first time watchers and for veteran watchers Eren deserves a less oversimplified and more complex descriptor than “villain.”

You know its serious when theres almost no bgm and its all talk. You read word by word and take it in, gradually breathing faster. Thats how I felt watching the trio talk in the beginning. No mincing of words, just straight up. Harsh and intense. Alot of thoughts went through my head, while trying to wrap my head around what was said. Burning questions. The fact is I cant even remember what Eren knows and ‘dont’ anymore. But at this point, it seems like he knows possibly everything. What was his purpose of this talk? He knew Armin was seeing Annie, he knew the Levi Ackermann’s, what, history? What was his point? Rile them up? Or he knew they were trying to talk to him so he came to find them on his own to do that? What? Make them go against him? Something about the paths? I dont know anymore. It was indeed very hard to watch this exchange.
No I feel you both. Stunned. Hard to find words. Blank even lol. I was trying very hard to find words to post in the previous ep, but this one..gosh its way harder..
Then came Zeke.. and Levi.. good lord.. this goat just wiped out all the titans who transformed, probably 30 or so I think, still caught up to Zeke, created a diversion and whipped him out of his Beast Titan form, while still talking. Im sure you guys have wayyy better words than me to describe this goat.
It was such an apt title. Savagery. In every form, verbally, physically, emotionally.
Omg, Zeke. Physically. 🤢 oh god, his body and legs.
Mr. Ksaver?
Ugh, okay I have to stop here 💜🙏🏻

When you realize they watched the episode "Hero" with Armin being burnt up and Eren's plea to save him, only about 2-3 weeks ago.. This episode probably hit way harder lol
Waiting between season's releases, put the same amount of relative time between us and the characters. Jared and Jordan had zero distance in regards to time lmao

So “who’s Levi serving?”
This is the answer from Isayama himself from official guidebook Attack on Titan ANSWERS:
Isayama: "Mikasa, Levi, and Kenny all belong to the same Ackerman family. However, the three of them fought to protect someone regardless of their bloodline. It was their nature."
Interviewer: "Huh!? (Shocked) This part hasn't even been drawn in the story!! So the liege of Mikasa is Eren, and by the same logic, Kenny's is Uri..."
Isayama: "...For Levi, that person is Erwin, whose existence exceeds that of Levi's own. …."

You're half right. Ackermans can't turn into titans because they already have titan blood in them. They are a clan of eldians that were experimented on which is why they are so powerful. Orientals aren't necessarily special, they just aren't eldians. Only eldians can turn into titans.

Just to add up information. I dunno if this is a spoiler hope it will filtered out if ever.
Even Levi drink up the wine he won’t turn into a titan because only the Ackermans and Orientals are immune to titan power same as removing memories by the king don’t have an effect on them even though they still have the blood of being one of the subjects of Ymir.

First time watcher here.
I’m sick. This episode was draining. Very emotionally draining. Since the beginning of this season I’ve felt a loss of some sort. Like everything is so different. The characters, their relationships, their actions. Everything is so different and at first, I felt like I needed to grieve the characters as they were in the previous seasons. But I had to understand that things change and ofc they’re gonna grow. Time has to go by. Things happen. I think that disconnect came from not knowing what went on in the years we didn’t see. We still don’t know much. Like what Eren did and what happened to him that made him such a different person. Now, it’s completely different AGAIN. There’s nothing that’s the same not even the BIG 3. Well, ain’t nothing change in the fact that Levi has always been and forever will be a GOAT. Imma get to that in a second tho.
Eren really just did that to Armin and Mikasa…. I don’t know how to process that. I’ve never once not been on Eren’s side. I’ve always sided with him and trusted in him. However, this episode was the only time I’ve ever hated Eren. The betrayal of his words to them. And the sad thing about it is that he’s right. It makes sense, everything he said. But that was a hard truth to hear. The only thing I don’t believe is him saying he’s hated Mikasa since they were young. He hates people who aren’t free and the idea of not being free. But him actually hating Mikasa personally, I can’t believe that. Idk what he’s got going on, but I hope he understands that he’s changed a lot. He’s ruined a part of his relationship with his best friends that he probably never can come back from.
Now Levi, that man is unstoppable. I agree, he’s one of the only ‘free’ characters left.I wonder how he can control his Ackermann powers. Who does he serve to protect. It seems like himself, as many times as he’s escaped situations no other character would have been able to escape (in my opinion). He’s a baddddd man. The most goated character I’ve ever known.
Also, I want to trust in Eren, I really do but I just don’t understand why he and the Jaegerists are uprooting everything. Their mission better be worth it for all that they’re doing.

I liked this phrasing! Another thought that came across my mind was, Levi appears to be a “slave” to others’ expectation and trust for “humanity’s strongest.” As all the mind boggling events unfolded throughout the series, we see him steadily carrying the weight to execute the more challenging parts of the Scout’s plans, making most difficult decisions on the fields, then was left to internalize his guilt and loss silently in the background (or at least the way the show portrays it.) He is expected to be strong for his team, his legion, and humanity. I often wonder if what he really cares about is none of those but simply being a “normal human” — being able to fight/live side by side with the people he trust the most, and mourn/remember them in the end

I remember watching this episode and finishing with my stomach feeling bad.
I don't usually take things to heart this much about a show, but watching Eren say and do those things to Armin and Mikasa, seeing Levi lose his comrades for the 569965324th time and being forced to kill them, and seeing Shadis' get beaten to a pulp by his own recruits who he trained, it genuinely left me speechless and depressed for some time.
It just felt like everything this show was about, it's identity, it's characters and their relationships was coming undone right before our very eyes. And like the characters, we could do nothing but sit back and watch it unfold and descend into chaos.

When I first watched this episode, I also closed my eyes and sat in silence at the half-way mark like you guys have for like 30 minutes, remembering every scene I could from past seasons/episodes regarding the big 3. At the end of my meditation, the scene where Pyxis is interrogating Yelena pops in my mind,he says:
"Do you know how to tell a good lie? Sometimes you gotta mix the truth into it"
How much of it is a lie and how much of it is the truth? What is the truth & what is the lie? WTF EREN?!
Then, in my re-watch, because I missed it the first time(like you guys seemed to have missed aswell), at 34:40, I realised it. This is the look of a man who's dead inside for what he had just done(it seemed that way to me after a good 5 min meditation/analysis). I had no idea why but Eren felt like it had to be done, I guess. This is what my gut was telling me.
But then, I thought:" Maybe I'm wrong and this means something else..." then I intentionally went to re-watch specific scenes of Mikasa,Armin & Eren from previous seasons. I was like:" It can't be, Eren is lying somewhere. You ain't tricking me again, Himayama!"
Trying to call Isayama's bluff of what is truth and what is a lie in this show probably feels like playing against Magnus Carlssen in chess. If you think 5 moves ahead, you know he's thinking 10. Then if you think 10 moves ahead, he's thinking 20 moves ahead. And there's only so much information we mere mortals with mortal brains can handle.
Himayama is the master of the "I know that you know that I know that you know..." mind-games and while we might succesfully call his bluff sometimes,it's irrelevant because calling several of his bluffs out won't do much against the hundred we didn't even see coming.
Also, not to be that guy, but it's pronounced "TATAKAE" and not "TATAKE". And don't worry about pausing, if you don't pause in this show(especially this season) you won't have time to process a lot of things. Keep doing it, loved the reaction!
TATAKAE!!!

I liked that you guys mentioned how Levi seems to be the only 'free' character left and I had a few thoughts about that. Like Kenny said, everyone is a slave to something, and for Levi, because of his strength, he is a slave to heroism. Expected to always save everyone, and left with immense guilt when someone dies, (isabel, furlan, levi squad, etc). He does seem to be the most 'free' character, but I think that stems from his unshakable character.

About the Ackerman DNA
Mikasa’s “ackerman bond” is obviously with Eren
Levi’s was said to be with Commander Erwin
Kenny’s was with King Uri Reiss (the founding titan before Freida)
I'm not sure how true these are, but that’s what's pretty accepted by most people

Season 4 of aot is something that I had never expected to experience in my entire life, ever. I genuinely believe that season 4 was made for masochists (I mean it in a good way) 😂 All right, I will try to explain my thoughts right below.
My whole season 4 experience was brutal. I did not expect it to hit me so hard but it did and I am so grateful that I was able to see such a story unfold.
While watching season 4 I felt different. Attack on Titan has always been a show that forces you to feel not only uneasy but defeated as well. So much death, so much cruelty and only a tiny bit of hope. But from season 1 to season 3 we tried to hold ourselves on that thin line of hope no matter what (just like the characters in the show). After all we still knew so little about the outside world. Season 3 ending was special to me because even after learning so many terrible things and after such a tragic fight we still were able to see a beauty of the world - incredible imagery of the sea, our beloved characters having fun. It felt like no matter how bad things were there was still hope.
Season 4 on the other hand drains all that hope from you and does not return it. While watching this season I felt numb, all I could do was just staring at the screen in despair. Is there any way out of the situation?, I asked myself. Characters that always somehow were able to find a way out, a solution… now they are clueless. I was clueless as well. No matter how hard I tried I could not think of any good plan. Incredible writing, incredible storytelling.
In this episode I’ve seen myself in your reaction. Staring at the screen in disbelief and sadness. Season 4 is so far the most realistic portrayal of humanity that I have ever seen in any fictional story. The world is cruel, so cruel that it can make you miserable.
This is exactly the reason why Attack on Titan is the only show that I gave 10 stars. There’s a lot of incredible shows out there but none of them except aot made me feel that way. Gosh, I have never even thought that a show can make me feel that way. I felt exactly like I can imagine the characters felt in the show - completely lost.
BILLIE (Hairy Harry)

It was really disturbing seeing the trainees declare that they’ll dedicate their hearts right before beating up Commander Shadis into unconsciousness to “prove” their resolve. What was once an inspirational motto has now been twisted and distorted to fit the yeagerist’s extreme ideology.

Anyone who has a problem with you pausing multiple times during this episode has forgotten how they felt the first time they saw it. It’s called “Savagery” for a reason. It doesn’t hold back. Leaves us feeling empty and dead inside. Even so, it’s my 4th favorite. Just a masterpiece.

RIP Notebook XD
Yeah, essentially the whole "freezing up" after taking the spinal fluid was a lie that Zeke said last episode while talking to Levi, so people wouldn't suspect when they had the fluid in their bodies. And Levi just figured it out.
The rest of the people who drank it weren't in proximity to the "scream" so they didn't transform but did feel a "zap of electricity".
The "Wonderboy" or "Boy Wonder" nickname was given to Zeke by the people in Marley, they believe his ability to turn Eldians into titans with the scream makes him a beast titan like "no other". Let's not forget they DON'T know Zeke has royal blood (he's Dina's son) and have no idea that's the reason he's able to do what he does.

Erens’ words to Mikasa cut deeper than any physical touch ever could. That’s emotional betrayal on another level. It’s the epic love story you guys hoped for that never was.
Levi’s inner strength is next level. He doesn’t let emotions cloud or control his rage during a crisis. His lack of hesitation has served him well but at such a cost. Yikes. Now we know why they emphasize that he’s a tea totaler!

For J&J: S4P2 will start with the 3rd episode in your next batch (E76), and therefore a new intro. It is incredibly hype but also contains spoilers, so it’s always been a big point of contention in the fanbase whether to watch it or not.
Either way you’ll probably make half the fanbase happy and half mad. In my opinion, you guys have enough AoT experience yourselves to decide whether you would enjoy prioritizing hype for the end of the season, or prioritize remaining completely spoiler free.

I remember watching this when it aired and being absolutely gutted. Seeing Eren say such hurtful things to Mikasa and then beating Armin up was so difficult to watch. I found it funny though when Eren told them “Like I said, if you tell us where Zeke is, there’s no need for us to fight” in front of the yeagerists. He never actually said this to them. Also, I love how Armin punched Eren for hurting Mikasa just like when she punched him to the ground for calling Armin a weakling back in season 1. They’re so protective of each other.

My heart hurts for Mikasa. Regardless of the Ackerman blood in her, it's a fact that she loves him. Notice how Eren used his physical strength against Armin because he knew he wouldn't be able to win a fight against Mikasa, and he used words against Mikasa because he knew Armin would easily beat him in an argument.

"Who is Levi serving?" To answer Jared, I think it's really interesting how the Ackermans are highlighted here. We see how Eren talks about how the Ackermans become slaves to protect, to obey a host. We see it with Mikasa when Eren confronts her and Armin. But we also see it with Levi, and how his only mission right now is to bring justice to his fallen comrades and complete Erwin's last mission for him. There's a reason Levi is hellbent on killing Zeke. I think the reason we see his journey in Levi's OVA is to show how dedicated he becomes to Erwin. There's more I can't say due to spoilers, ESPECIALLY about Levi being the only "free" character, but I think it would be a good thing to keep in mind how both Ackermans are both different and similar to each other.
Jared, I completely agree. The conversation between the main trio was so heartbreaking to see. They have consistently been the only positive aspect to this whole show. Seeing that crumble before our eyes really makes us see that this situtation is critical.
