DN - Ep. 35 Reaction! | "MALICE"

This truly has been an astonishing journey. Allow me to once again express my admiration for your captivating reactions and discussions about the plot. Regarding Near's smile when he first took off his mask in the warehouse, it was because he saw Ryuk among Light’s group, confirming that he had obtained the real Death Note. I have two questions, and I hope they haven't been asked already since I haven't had much time to pay attention to other people's questions. First, this might be a somewhat clumsy question, but I still want to ask it: Who do you think is the smartest among Light, L, Mello, and Near? After you answer, I think I should also provide some of my own thoughts: I believe L’s intelligence is the most commendable. From the viewers' perspective, we can see that he fought against two Kiras (Light and Misa), two Death Notes, and two Shinigami (Ryuk, who wrote fake rules, and Rem, who protected Misa). L often had the upper hand in his encounters with Light. If it weren't for the Shinigami falling in love with Misa and the supernatural powers (Death Note) that rendered the FBI useless, L would likely have won. The second question is based on my understanding that many viewers stopped watching the series after episode 25, when L dies, because they felt the subsequent content was going downhill, and some even thought it was unnecessary to continue. I personally hold the opposite view; I believe the later episodes enriched and completed the story. What are your thoughts on this? Did your thoughts change from L’s death to the end in episode 37? I have very conflicted feelings about this series. I yearn for someone like Light to punish criminals, yet I also hope for someone like L to stop him. Perhaps it is as Light said in the series: the one who wins in the end is justice. Finally, I am delighted you enjoyed watching the complete series for the first time. I can’t wait for the next anime series and more anime movie reactions! I secretly hope to see the three pillars of Jump manga: One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, or my favorite sports manga: Hajime no Ippo, become the next anime series!

I love that you guys weren’t in shock that Light would kill Takada! A lot of Light sympathizers go crazy this episode because they convinced themselves Light was truly in love with Takada and that it was the beginning of a romantic redemption arc. I always laugh and think, “We’re 35 episodes in, and you still get fooled by Light’s manipulations?!” Not sure if you will have a final Deathnote video after the finale, so I just wanted to thank you both now for your reactions! Seriously, for this being the first anime reaction series you guys started, the production quality is insanely high, and I’m sure will be a go-to series on YouTube/Patreon for any new Deathnote reaction watchers. Can’t wait to see your finale reactions!

When Light told Takada "the killings must not stop" on the phone, he was not referring to Near and his team because, if you think about it, she had never seen them, so it was impossible for her to kill them. He was referring to the killing of the criminals that she had been doing every day. Since she was the one who did the killings instead of Mikami, if criminals stopped dying the day she got kidnapped, it would raise suspicion. This scene really shows how heartless Light is. Despite the fact that Takada was in such bad shape, the only thing that mattered to Light was his plan. On top of that, he killed her just when she was no longer of use to him. I never really liked Takada, but in that moment, I actually felt some sympathy for her.

Hi Jared & Jordon… I must’ve missed it earlier when you said Death Note is your FIRST anime, it’s mine as well, and it holds a special place in my heart because of that - glad to know we have that in common. OMFG !! So, we’re here - the final TWO episodes of Death Note!! Woohoo!!! How are we feeling?!! Stoked? Nervous??? I won’t spoil anything but I promise things will fall into place, as good shows tend to provide. Oh! You mentioned the transitional messages - I believe what we, as the audience are reading, are the guidelines of the death note not available to humans. (Just a theory, I could be wrong). Also, I felt so bad for Takada when it dawned on her that Light, in the moment of her captivity, cared more about her executing his plans than her safety. I believe she realizes, when she sobbed and distress is heard in her voice, that she’s insignificant to Light. Her death is particularly tragic to me because she genuinely cared for him - differently from Misa who used the death note willingly, whereas Takada unknowingly did Light’s biddings without knowing it cost her eternal life. Light screwed with her in more ways than one, and he smiled when the building burn - brilliantly vicious! I wish I commented and engaged beforehand, but I’m happy I’ve started now and can join you guys while you explore the anime genre. I’m certain my second favorite crime/psychological drama/sci-fi isn’t on most people’s top choice, but I’m happy to engage and follow along your anime journey. Psycho Pass season 1, to me, is just as brilliantly nuanced as Death Note. But I’ll wait for the poll - totally excited to see what you’ll replace our first anime with! Anywho… I’m excited for your reactions of these last two episodes of Death Note, particularly what you make of the ending. Do you guys have any predictions? Thanks again for the time and dedication put into these videos, we appreciate them! I can’t wait to embark on whatever adventures your digital journey brings us - you have a fan in me. Much love from Denmark, and as always thanks for existing! <3

Oh, yes, I am really curious as well, who you think will win. Mello's death surprised me as much as L's did when I first saw it. I'm so excited to see how you two react at the end. I love Death Note. I have t-shirts, the special edition dvds that came with the dolls (yea, I'm dvd old, haha), funko, the lite novels, the manga, all three of the Japanese live action films, etc. I haven't watched the anime in a few years though and it's been really fun re-watching it with you two. Let's go. :D

I hope so about the finale. 🤞

My favorite anime is coming to an end😭😤

Itachi Uchiha (Ericken)

Lidner is such an interesting character and unfortunately a lot of her content was cut from the anime. You guys seemed to have sussed out the fact that Lidner is playing both sides in the Near vs Mello contest, but this has been the case for awhile. Back when Mello held Lidner at gunpoint in order to meet with Near and retrieve his photo, the anime portrays the hostage situation as if Lidner had no agency. In the manga it makes it much more clear that Lidner was working with him to put on that little performance in order to get Mello a meeting with Near. https://i.imgur.com/1uSyiqO.jpeg She's since been feeding Mello tidbits about Near's investigation because her motivation is to catch Kira and she doesn't care who does it. Lidner has no time to watch Mello and Near squabble over who's going to win their little contest and will aid both sides as much as she can. That's why when she recognized Mello on the motorcycle, she told Takeda to go with him. The second half of the series made a lot of cuts after L's death and Lidner was one of the characters that got screwed because of it, but the two episodes you are about to watch are my personal two favorite episodes in the series. Say what you want about the second half being shaky, but in my opinion, the finale sticks the landing.
