This episode has my favorite scene from the entire series. Porco looking up at the scouts and saying, "Can't you see I'm a Titan." That scene always makes me want to scream because up until this point Porco (who has never been to Paradis) has only ever had humans afraid of him, while the Scouts kill titans for a living. Literally!!! I love it so much because it just goes to show, unless you know a person's background and what they've gone through you don't truly know what they're capable of.

This is just a personal opinion and I just want to let it out. Watching the last 3 episodes in dub was CRINGE!!! Omg it weirdly sounds monotonous and lacking. BUT maybe because it was just a few minute clips. Honestly, maybe it also depends on how you started watching the show and how those characters grew into you. Watching other shows in dub like Pokemon (english) or yu yu hakusho (other language) and many more sounded better to me because that’s how I started watching them. Listening to the Japanese counterpart sounded like they’re a different character altogether. Although in the end, watching in sub will always be better for me because I like how the Japanese VAs give more life and personality to the character with their voices. Edit: Erwin’s speech in dub was great though.

Every time I watch the scene of Porco questioning why HUMANS are coming to attack him as a TITAN, and he calls them devils...it makes me think 'it's this world that made them into devils'. They had to become devils to the world to survive. :(

Now you know who the mystery man at the end of season 4 ep 1 was. it was jean. the scouts were somewhere in marley outside the internment zone receiving the letters from eren. From the way mikasa was talking tho it sounds like eren was acting on his own accord and just hoped the scouts would show up

Agreed Randy! I made a comment about this comparison too, but I absolutely see how they mirror each other in so many ways! I just have less respect for Willy lol unlike Erwin having almost no knowledge of the world, he had way more knowledge than *most* people in the world, and he still chose to perpetuate violence. Such a bummer, I think could’ve done better! 😩

There are certainly similarities between Willy and Erwin! With all of the discussion talk about truth, I’m surprised that y’all aren’t more critical of Willy. He is a flawed man, like all of the characters, and while he sacrificed his life to be a martyr for a cause he believed in, he also grew up a lot differently from all other Eldians in the world. He grew up with power, with opportunities, with connections to so many different peoples of different cultures, that I’m disappointed he didn’t come to different conclusions about humanity and his people and his own blood. He chose violence, and even if what he said had some truth and merit, he manipulated the *story* and the *facts* in his production for the world for his own prerogative, his own “truth” (like so many people do, very human of him). But I’m personally disappointed in him because he could’ve chosen to use his power and connections to change the world for the better for EVERYONE, and instead he decided to target innocent people (not just the Eldians on Paradis, but also a lot of people that were killed during Eren’s terrorist attack) and perpetuate violence and hate to “unite” people. I have empathy for him but I think it’s a lot different from Erwin, because while Erwin also sacrificed his life (and getting answers) for “humanity”, he didn’t martyr himself with the intention of his sacrifice being an excuse to annihilate an entire people. Idk maybe I’m not on the right track here or I’m biased in some way, but that’s where my thought process is right now! Love the reaction as always, guys!!

Willy Tybur is definitely Erwin Smith but in a different context, I see people being offended that the two are compared and I am shocked... it is the mirror effect, you put the same character in different situations and backgrounds and he might react differently but it is still the same character. Erwin and Willy are one of the most obvious cases of mirroring in the anime. Charismatic leaders, motivational speakers, deceivers/truth tellers, they use people as baits, sacrifice their owns for a bigger plan, sacrifice themselves for the success of one single plan. The differences are in the motivations and values, one is hiding being humanity's survival to accomplish a selfish purpose, the other is putting humanity first (Marley). One regrets when he sacrifices his own people the other does not. One lives in elegance and tries to keep the statut quo for his family, the other trie to move and change things to avenge his family. And I could go on and on

Lol Willy is the mirror of Erwin, just different motives with different values. the concept of sacrificing their own people, for the purpose of a bigger plan and goal, being these charistmatic and revered leaders with the talent of being such motivational speakers... giving those speeches that convince and unite people to their causes... their ability to mix truth and lie to deceive or conquer their followers, and the self sacrifice as the unique way for their plans to succeed. A mirrow shows a reflexion, your right becomes your left and your left becomes your right, its the same type of character in two different contexts... its like saying Maggath is not the mirror of Shadis because one train kids to destroy, and the other trains kids to defend themselves...

It feels quite insulting that you guys compare Willy with Erwin. If anything Willy is a coward who sold his own people and die playing the role of “hero”, ironically as fake as Helos was. Erwin was never painted himself as “hero” neither he wanted to be one, he just wanted to find the truth and die for it.

That Porco scene leaves me speechless everytime, for the impact it has in this story arc. Understand that humans are just not supposed to come at a titan like this... a titan is supposed to instill fear into humans hearts, thats the natural order of it all. But here u have fearless humans, flying around and coming at you to finish you off, in the dark, with blinding lights in the background. If all your life your have been told that myth of the island devils, this is definitely it, these guys are certainly the devils of Paradis. But the viewer knows the reality of it, those "devils" are just humans who had no choice but to learn how to kill titans to survive. What u are witnessing Porco is the result of Marley's decision to ship all these Eldians on that island as pure titans. And for the very 1st time a titan is absolutely terrified, mortified of human beings 🤣🤣🤣 Himayama for you...

I can understand some similarities but I wouldn't compare Willy with Erwin.. Erwin fought with his life and gave literally everything he had away for all his people.. meanwhile Willy holds so much hatred for his own blood and wants all Eldians perished just because of the sins of their predecessors. Willy was a guy who was loved and heard by many elites around the world.. He could have made the world see the Eldians on Paradis as human beings too instead of devils and that they deserve a chance to be heard too but instead he chose to ignite more hate in their hearts for the island people

I agree, Galliard’s reaction at the end is gold. He doesn’t really get it, that these humans have been fighting Titans for a hundred years or so (I think?). It’s all they know. And Galliard’s just like “What is wrong with you? Don’t you understand that I’m a Titan?” HAHAHAHA boy you have no clue.

There's one small but very significant detail that seems to be missed in the English translation during Willy's speech. In the original version Willy mentions (I'm paraphrasing) that right or wrong, he wants to fight because he was "born into this world." He says this just after Erin shares his thoughts about Marley to Reiner in a way that makes him seem compassionate. However, when Willy says those words you see Eren's eyes widen, almost in shock. Those are the same exact words that Erin's mother, Carla said about Erin, as told by Keith Shadis during the "Bystander" episode in season 3. Those words seemingly brought Erin some peace and connection to his mother in that episode. In this episode I believe it reminded him that he has to to whatever he has to do for HIS people, no matter the cost.

SO MUCH HAPPENED THIS EPISODE. It's one of my favorites of the entire series, I sometimes rewatch it just because it's absolutely a masterpiece. For some reason my favorite part is when the War Hammer simply says "Usurper Eren Yaeger" is a quote that lives in my head rent free. Something about the subtle but powerful delivery just makes it sound like we're on the brink of unparalleled, unprecedented calamity. A second favorite is at the end with Galliard, he truly couldn't fathom the notion of human beings charging directly at a titan. Even with all the info Reiner and Zeke brought back to Marley, it wasn't enough to truly prepare Galliard for what they were gonna take on. He definitely seemed slower to catch on to the situation compared to Pieck whose spidey senses quickly started tingling lol.

THIS episode is the episode that excels aot beyond a 10/10 show to once in a lifetime. Isayama has the balls to reintroduce our group of main characters again as villains. I completely understand that Eren and the others had no choice because this attack ensures Paradis' survival, but in saying that, we need to recognise the plain truth about what's happening. We are no longer rooting for the good guys anymore. We're just witnessing a bunch of villains fighting against other villains to see who can be more ruthless. The world of aot breeds violence, ruthlessness and war because that's the only way to survive in its cruel world. It's unforgiving and you're rewarded for being the worst version of yourself. And every character we see on screen is a victim of this.
