There is huge pressure in Japan (and Asia) to be a top performer, wheter it's sports, school or business. And a lot of shame for not delivering. For example a worker getting fired but still getting up every morning and leave the house, pretending to go to work, hiding their jobless status. No doubt something like Tsuki brother's deception has played out in real life, of hiding your failure from your closest family.

I love how Bokuto and Kuroo have taken Tsukki under their wing 🦉 and paw 🐈 even if Tsukki was unwilling at first lol
Cross & Straight Shots are basically the direction of where you hit. Notice the way the arrows go ↙️⬇️during Bokuto’s explanation between 26:04 - 26:08.
•Cross Shot - Spiking the ball at an angle so it goes diagonally across the court. Jordan was correct, Bokuto’s hit at 28:58 is considered a cross shot.
•Straight or Line Shot - Spiking the ball straight aiming down the sideline. Bokuto’s straight is shown at 26:20. It’s pretty difficult to execute with how narrow of a space you have to work with. You risk hitting the antenna, hitting out or hitting into the block.
•Soft block - We’ve seen how fast a spike goes especially when it’s hit hard. So a soft block is intended to slow it down, making it easier for your teammates behind you to receive it and put it back in play.
•Kill block - When your spike gets blocked and your team is not able to recover it. Date Tech is a great example of what kill blocks look like.
The difference is the placement of your hands when you go up for the block. Your hands in a kill block would lean more forward and look like they’re towering over ready to “kill the spike” as Yaachi puts it. Check out Daichi’s form during Kiyoko’s explanation from 29:24-29:32.
Hope this helps a bit! 🙂

I hope you still have time to watch the Haikyu!! dub. Watching the sub, I long for the humor found in the dub.

And that’s why Coach smirked. He recognized the growth.👍🏻

Sweet frame with both Jordan and Yachi taking soft block vs. kill block notes at the exact same time.🥰📝

Have to give props to our guy yamaguchi said. As the great albus dumbledore once said, “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends”. It can be really hard sometimes to have a tough love moment for a friend and I’m glad he was able to do that for tsukki

I really love Bokuto and Kuroo, they are such amazing characters and I loved how they somehow helped Tsukki to not only become a better blocker through their practice sessions but also inspired him and awakened his passion in a way. Plus I love Bokuto and Kuroo's friendship, though they are from different teams. Their friendship is obvious even through their silly arguments (the way Kuroo teases Bokuto🤣).
I find Bokuto's personality so funny, though he might seem a bit childish, he is actually a really nice guy at heart, and you can tell he is very passionate about volleyball

I wouldn't say Tsukki was shocked that his brother's been lying. He was shocked that his brother, who was once the ace in his middle school and thought of being in the volleyball club as everything, and despite putting so much effort to be a very good player that he is, he still "lost" to his other team members that were even better by not making it as a regular player after entering Karasuno High; therefore saying it's "lame". Witnessing this changed Tsukki's passionate attitude towards the sport to "it's just a club."

I love how Kuroo helped Tsukki with details, because even though coach Ukai had played volleyball, he's still new in coaching. He's good at strategy, but like for the technical details for each position especially the different position that he played (he was a setter), he's still learning.
Like how he said before the match, for blocking, they don't have to kill but just touch, it's not wrong but too rough. And Kuroo taught Tsukki how to actually using block that meant to stop/kill.

Do you guys remember the moment you were hooked on basketball or any other hobbies or interests?

Bokuto's feint against Tsukki at the end is because he knew he would get caught by Tsukki if he hit hard, so just like his teammate said he ran away, rather than try to get another angle or blast through blockers.
That's how we know that Tsukki was getting serious. Before that, Bokuto just casually hit hard to blast or get past Tsukki's block. It's huge development.

lol its so funny that you guys keep mentioning about bugs. That bug is a beetle, they only appear in summer. Kids always chasing and capture them to pet them in Japan.
So it's common to show the a beetle (or sometimes cicada) in anime, just to show that it's a summer 🤣🤣🤣

That's normal in large power school team, to have players on bench and even outside bench.
But Tsukki's brother was cool tho, even though he wasn't a regular or even in bench, he was still willing to come to the match to support the team. Just think that if you're practicing every day so hard but you can't even be in bench...I would ditch the match lol

Tsukki didnt show any passion for the game no does he want to improve himself further before this. But everyone noticed his subtle change at the end when he actually did a proper block and faced Bokuto head on to the point that Bokuto changed his spike to a feint. The team and even the players from the other team noticed this. Bokuto's elavator speech really got tsukki thinking and perhaps he had a realisation that training hard for volleyball is not so 'lame' at all especially if you love it!

I think Tsukki’s brother was actually in the team, he had the team’s tracksuit and Tsukki said he belived he could do it by practicing hard, but that was the moment when Karasuno was a powerhouse, that means there were a lot of players. Only the best players were playing on the court, some others were on the bench and the rest of them had to be on the stands. So he was practicing with them in the team but there were best wing spikers to choose for the matches, like the Little Giant.
Imagine seeing your brother overshadow by the Little Giant and when you get to Karasuno there is a player very similar on your team. That’s rough.

Tsukki brother not even on the bench. Means there was alot of talented players, even the bench players.

So I actually had a similar situation once. Back in high school, I was on the track team (although I wasn’t very good). We had a track meet once and didn’t find out who was competing until we got there. My name wasn’t on the list to compete that day but my brothers showed up to watch so I just told them my event got cancelled because there weren’t enough people for it. I was embarrassed but I was also never that passionate about track so I’m sure it was a different feeling from Tsukki’s brother.

Tsukkis bro is on the team but the team was so large a bunch of them have to be in the stands and not on the court, since he's not a starter or substitute

The really sad part is that Tsukki's brother is actually a very good player, being the ace of a middle school team and shown when he's able to receive the ball straight into the basketball hoop. The Karasuno roster at that time was just so deep that even someone as skilled and passionate as him was relegated to not even suiting up during games, essentially relegated to practice squad.
Tsukki's attitude of "if I don't really invest in it, I don't have to worry about being devastated if it doesn't work out" is pretty common, and a bit relatable. If I tell myself I wasn't that serious about it in the first place, failure has a much smaller impact.

here! :) thank you for the uploads.. after working all week i look forward to thursdays.. my day off relaxing to your reactions of haikyuu and catching up on a weeks worth of AOT!
EDIT: learning something new every day, yes! when i was playing volleyball (all throughout my school years) there was no libero position :) but now i can reflect back and say if there had been, i would have been the libero/pinch server (i know liberos dont serve, but man was my serves on point. coach would pick out a position and i can soft serve/float or spike serve it there.. although just standing serves, no jump). i was short so i would rotate in when our blocker was to go in the back row, i'd rotate in to serve, play the back row and then rotate out when i was to go in front row, the blocker would come back in. it was fun while it lasted, and this also goes to show how ancient (old) i am haha
EDIT EDIT: i like the ending of the episode, didnt know if you noticed but it was day time and you can see the moon.. watch out hinata! haha
