Yooo, Jared & Jordan, I must share why I enjoyment this episode (The Attack Titan) with you. Honestly, this one is one of my favorites because of all the questions it brings up and how it changes my view of the characters. We get to learn about this Attack Titan, which has been passed down from Kruger to Grisha to Eren. As seen in the episode, there seems to be a memory link where the person who inherits a Titan can see the memories of past inheritors. This makes me question who one is when memories shape people's identities and personalities. We see Eren basically live, experiencing his father's memories. He is blurting out words said in those memories by Grisha. Not only that but once a scene of Grisha's face smoothly switches to Eren's, indicating that Eren sees all that from Grisha's point of view. But it gets even better… It might quickly go unnoticed, but at 07:38, Eren is sitting in that specific position… Very soon after that, at 07:58, Eren is shown as the Owl, who is then shown sitting in the exact position as Eren was! Also, remember… When the Owl is about to say the name of the Titan he will give to Grisha (12:07), it switches to Eren saying the name (Attack Titan). So, since Eren is literally saying what Kruger is saying and sitting the same way he is, it indicates that Eren didn't just relive Grishas memories of the conversation on the wall but also Krugers. Everything shown in this and the prior episode is what Eren saw from Grisha's life. It is not proven, but with all the details I mentioned, it seems to indicate that, in my opinion. Now, if we can deduce that Eren also relived things from Kruger's point of view as I said before, does that mean that Eren relived significant portions of both Grisha's and Kruger's life? I am not 100% sure, but it does bring up one big question: How much did Eren actually see from the past Attack Titan inheritor's memories? The Owl had to have eaten someone who had the Attack Titan to get the power himself. What about that person… Did Eren see some of their memories, too? He probably did since Eren says at 07:40, "One inheritor said they saw paths." The name is not specified, so it has to be an Attack Titan inheritor before Kruger. So, how far back can Eren see then? How many different inheritor's memories has Eren seen? Him talking about an inheritor we haven't seen indicates that what we have been shown Eren relive isn't all that he saw. This is crazy! Now, who is Eren at this point? In the last episode, when Eren wakes up screaming, he is just as shocked and sad as Grisha was when Dina turned into a Titan. Both are even seen crying (17:50), so Eren didn't just visually relive Grishas's memories but also emotionally. And likely did the same with Kruger. Our boy Eren relived Grisha's core traumas and probably Kruger's, too. Let that sink in. Also, think about his own traumas, which all shaped Eren to who he is today. But he also relived other people's traumas, which are so brutal that they would change any person to their core. If that is the case, who is Eren then? He is like a mix of multiple people now, with all those memories having become his own. Our boy just downloaded all the inheritor's traumas into his own brain lol. This is crazy! One last thing tho… What are your thoughts on Kruger's last sentences in this episode about saving Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else? You guys looked really shocked about it, lol. Fill us in.

BarnaBash

Yeah I guess they got confused by the term "books" and thought that books had to be printed en masse, when in reality they're more journals/memoirs.

Hippopi

Reiner couldn't read it though.

Hippopi

Someone asked about the Nothing is true quote so I want to give my personal interpretation of it here for you guys to see Nothing is true: the world around us isn't absolutely true. The things we experience is a small part of the overall world and those (mine, yours, our) world views are inherently flawed. Everything is Permitted: reality is not able to be precieved. We choose our lives by our choices. What I consider valuable may not be any value to you, and we could both be right because it's subjective. One thing gets interpreted different by different people. Reality is subjective. Every choice you make is your responsibility and you have the freedom to make your own choices, but you also have to accept the outcomes of them. That's the jist of my personal interpretation.

Tom Bombadil

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood was my first Anime, AoT was the 2nd. Part of me wishes I never watched AoT though...it's been hard to find another show that hits me the way it does.

Tom Bombadil

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted (favorite Assassin's Creed quote) It fits AoT well. After what you've learned you now know the other side of the sea. Until now we had minimal (save Grisha) confirmation of the humans beyond the walls. Now you know there's an entire world, not only that but the world superpower put all Eldians in camps and keep them in fear by making them into titans using no resources to fight Parasis. All the lies we learned. Marley even used Eldian Warriors to fight their own people...we saw with Grisha's dad that Marley can have quite the impact on their mental/emotional states... This all goes back to what's right and wrong? Or better: what is good and what is bad. Is there an answer? Armin touched on this with Annie in S1... I want to say more, but I think I've said enough for where we you are in the show. Edit at the end: remember what Bertolt in season 2....

Tom Bombadil

This show is like being on a roller coaster in a tornado. You guys mentioned Butterfly affect and I couldn't have said it better. Remember that in season 4, can't wait for some of those reveals. Also makes you ponder all the stories, lore, myths, and legends of races of giants in our own history. Wonder if Hajime knows something we don't. Aloha NuiLoa brothers 🤙💜

this is a really good comment for an easier explanation

Some minor but super cool foreshadowing throughout the series for Jared and Jordan and any new watchers. 1. In ep 1 we see a bird flying through the air, that specific type of bird only appears near bodies of water, considering they are on an island that makes sense 2. Ymir and Reiner with the canned herring. Herring is manufactured near oceans, and given they are on an island that makes sense. Also Ymir and Reiner can read the language while gelgar couldn’t. That is because they both come from Marley and can read what is said. The people that left alcohol and herring in utgard castle is zeke and some marleyan soldiers. 3. When eren was on the tree with Ymir Reiner and bertholdt they start talking about “the monkey” (beast titan). Eren has no idea what a monkey is because there are no monkeys on paradis island while the other 3 know exactly what a monkey is 4. The courtroom in episode 14 shows a portrait of a great battle, this hints at the great titan war 80-100 years ago 5. Grisha could easily cure the plague and become the best doctor on paradis island due to his additional knowledge from his time in Marley. That is why he travels far distances to cure important people within wall sina as he mentioned in ep 1. 6. Reiner calls Marco a part of “an evil race” because that is what the eldians and people in Marley believe them to be. Bit of a contradiction from Reiner due to him being an eldian himself but given marleyan propaganda it’s not too far fetched. 7. Zeke uses baseball terms because the outside world clearly has sport while obviously paradis does not

Sean Carroll

Yes grisha went to the walls, met Keith and Carla, saved Carla from the plague and then married her, I imagine that was all in the span of 1-2 years. Then eren let’s say 1 year later. Grisha was certainly at the end of his 13 years

Sean Carroll

I have watched this anime 3 times! I should not still be getting goosebumps! "Whose memories are those?" ugh so good.

Angieshroom

When I watched it first time, I got hella confused. It was on my mind the entire time. Until I forgot because of the looooong wait.

Aya

I just had a sudden realization after this rewatch. Eren was 10 yrs old when the attack happened. That means Grisha might be nearing his expiry date, that’s why he had to pass down the Titan powers to his son. The three other years includes settling down inside the walls, epidemic, and the pregnancy. That’s 13 years of planning and finishing his mission. 🤯 Also, btw, I look forward to the information available part. Because doesn’t the way the brothers say “available” sound sexy. Or maybe it’s just me.

Aya

In answer to your questions above: 1. I imagine the doctor simply wrote Marleyan on a document for Kruger. Don’t know the details behind that. 2. Yes, every subject of Ymir is connected whether they are living or dead. Rod said to historia in episode 7, “Frieda is not entirely gone from this world, would you like to meet her again” this hints at the memories of previous owners being transferred to the new owner, the same applies for eren receiving grishas memories. 3. Kruger acquiring the attack titan is never explained, the attack titan always fights for freedom no matter what, so we can assume the owner found a way to stay free away from marleyan hands and then after 13 years decided Kruger was the right option 4. The historia seeing Ymir’s memories moment I’ve always found hard to explain. Historia has royal blood so she can see someone like erens memories when she touches the founding titan but it doesn’t make sense to me why she saw Ymir’s memories. The Ymir being chained up will be revealed later

Sean Carroll

Please let them read this comment moderator. I love title drops and it's a pity if they miss out on it

*first time watcher* Jared: Isnt that the same % of the sea, in our world? Where do we live in? Me: Same world as them Jared, over a thousand years later. Instead of Titans we have skyscrapers, who knows 🤣 Attack Titan. Eren Krugar. Curse of Ymir. 13 years. If not passed by then, that power inherited by unknown baby. Subjects of Ymir connected by paths. All paths cross at a single coordinate, the Founding Titan. Touching royal blood Pure Titan, possible to use full Founding Titan power to control. “To save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else, you must see it through…” 👀 what? After the overflowing new info in previous ep, this one may seem like it gave me a tiny breather, but more deep thinking 😵‍💫. So Im just gonna throw questions out 😂: [For my simple brain, Im calling Eren Krugar as Krugar, and Eren Jaeger as Eren] 1. Were the ‘blood tests’ that differentiated a Subject of Ymir and a Marleyan, associated with the spinal fluid we kept seeing that turns the former into Titans, but not the latter? 2. “Every single Subject of Ymir is connected to that coordinate”: Does this mean every past, present and future subjects of Ymir, be it living or dead, human or Titan, power or no power? 3. How did Krugar acquire the Attack Titan (AT)? When I calculated the timeline, Grisha mentioned 15 years since Fay’s death, so it seems he acquired AT, 2 years after Fay’s death. Doesnt seem like a case of inheritance by chance, he wasnt a baby. That said, Marley got control of Seven. The King took the Founding Titan to the Walls. How was AT not ‘controlled’ by either side, till Krugar got it? 4. When Historia saw flashes of Ymir by touching the paper, was it cos’ of her royal blood or this point under point 2 above? There was a break in those flashes when we saw Ymir looking at the ‘paths’, and then came the image of her chained up in a similar looking chapel with a man 👀. Was that something that already happened, or perhaps a present or future memory? For a minute I was thinking, ‘is Eren a reincarnation of Krugar?’ The man looks similar to Grisha and Eren. But then, what these three have in common is the AT. Grisha took the Founding Titan and passed it to Eren who now has both. I had to rewatch and observe the expressions and body language of Krugar, Grisha and Eren. Eren seems to be exhibiting similar expressions as Krugar, at times as Grisha and he snaps back to himself. Although Eren started off with a ‘nightmare’ in previous ep, in here he appears to be in a trance, relaying the info to Armin as if hes Krugar. For example at 8:08 mark, Krugar was sitting with his left arm supported by his leg. At 9:37, Eren just switched his sitting position to the same, resembling Krugar speaking to Grisha. At 10.06, its as if Eren is talking to Grisha, saying “..the Founding Titan” Or, Im tripping cos’ of how smooth the animation is transitioning the past and present 😅 Then again, I was also thinking about the info- “..Said power is inherited along with memories through paths which transcend space and time..” TIME. Krugar saying that when getting the injection ready for Grisha is oddly similar to when Grisha, to Eren. If Krugar unknowingly blurted that out, from having a sudden ‘memory’ of Grisha, that may suggest that Krugar saw a memory of the future Grisha, at his point of transferring his power to Eren. Which then threw my mind off with a lot of questions like, has it got anything to do with this 13-year curse, are past subjects with Titan powers able to see future ones just before transferring, is this specific to the Attack Titan or all Nine Titans..😵‍💫😵‍💫😮‍💨 Wow. At about 11:35, if J&J did not pause, I might not have noticed the half darker, half lighter color of the sky, with their faces right in between. Pawn of the devil, miracle of god 🤷‍♀️ but beautiful detail. The image shown in the info is amazing, the wavy lines connecting to every being. “She touched the source of all living matter”. I imagined an enormous tree, with its roots branching out to every living organism, forming an entire island. Wow. [Sorry, for those who had watched ATLA, you probably know the swamp episode 😂] I wish I could go back to the past and telepathically tell Isayama to stop the King from erasing everyone’s memories 😂 Sorry again this got so long. Till the next ep 💜🙏🏻

Lynn #7

Once upon a time there were a girl named Ymir gained the power the of the titans by the devil as you saw last episode. she only lived for 13 years then died thats why they call it the curse of Ymir. When she died her titan powers split into 9 titans one of the titans name ATTACK TITAN Eren’s titan + The founding titan that has been gained by his father Grisha. That’s why Marley targeting Eren to steal his founding titan power in order to control the Eldians in paradise island.

Eren Jaeger

🤣🤣🤣 so heartbreaking indeed, sometimes I pause the videos and yell noooooooo, and I take a deep breath like they do so well. It is all love tho 😃😃 I just wish they understand everything better before they start with season 4

Randy Flash

I know you guys are struggling to digest everything but it'll all feel put together as you continue :)

Dwob

Randy Flash

I just realized in season 1 it was mentioned that Mikasa's mother was from a place called Asia and she and Mikasa were the last 2 known "orientals" alive, i can't believe how obvious that detail is now on telling us viewers this show takes place within some resemblance of the planet earth we live in and other civilizations existed, it's a real world continent that's in the AoT world 🤯(isayama needs to be stopped 🤣 he's a menace with the story yelling) isayama also doesnt do anything in this show without a reason, he gave us the biggest clue about their world in the first few episodes of season 1 😮

You have an Army, yeah We got a Jinx(Brandon)

Guys, I feel like u take to heart the idea that there is no truth in this world, and u question everything u see in the show lool. Per example the infos available for public disclosure are always true. The owl was specifically talking about people's belief systems: "the truth is just what people chose to believe in. Whether its right or wrong, as soon as they believe in it, its their truth." Trust the show and how it choses to reveal its truth tho, take the reveals as accurate until it decides to prove otherwise. If not u start having those theories that take u further away from THE TRUTH of the author.

Randy Flash

And a studio tour/reveal! I’d love to see a tour of their space and set up.

antionette7

Yeah, this is spoiling the show. There's a certain twist that answers a mystery in this episode that you are just completely spoiling, which they should not know now.

Crewe

So fun little easter egg, Dina isn't the only Titan that we've seen. If you look at all of Grisha's comrades last episode when they get turned, you'll see they all made an appearance in episode 4 and 5 (the lanky one that ate Thomas, the Santa looking dude who almost ate Armin, the creepy big eyed one that ate Mina and took a blast in the eyes inside the refueling station).

Jake Thompson

its_aliza

Basically the title of this anime is a bit of a mistranslation. When the guy says that the titan is called the attacking titan he is actually giving a title drop. for me I think a better title would have been Attack of the Titan but in the end the title is refering to Eren's original titan the Attacking Titan.

MelanieRS

Also, their reaction to the Mikasa/Armin reveal at the end was priceless. It was also in sync with the music, which made it all the better. Jordan’s exasperated lean back in his chair as the credits began to role 👌👌

Tortellini

Please make a prediction at the start of season 4 of the outcome of the show/season.

Tortellini

kruger was right. there is no truth. the world is grey. season 4 portays that even more so than any other season

Concepts94

I may be wrong but I think all eldians can become titans I can’t say my reasons right now but I always watched with the idea subjects of Ymir was just another name for all eldians

You have an Army, yeah We got a Jinx(Brandon)

No matter how many times I watch this episode, When Eren Kruger (the owl) tells Grisha he has to complete the mission to save Mikasa and Armin I still get chills. Can’t wait for season 4 specifically when our two favorite reactors find out why the owl knew about mikasa and armin

You have an Army, yeah We got a Jinx(Brandon)

atleast now we know erwin's theory is correct. sad to think he died before knowing the truth 😢

bort

Grisha wrote the 3 books, only he knew of their existence, Erwin’s dad just had a theory, if he read the books he would know his theory was correct but obviously that never happened

Sean Carroll

No Ymir didn’t live 13 years. She ate Marcel as Reiner bertholdt and Annie were travelling to the walls. That was 5 years ago. She would have had almost the exact same amount of time left as eren, take a few days

Sean Carroll

Please don’t hold onto the notion of there is no truth in this world regarding what you just learned in these two episodes. I feel like you both either overthink simple things and under-think important things. Please ensure you rewatch as much as you need because if you go into season 4 with all of your confusion then you will get lost. Season 4 isn’t going to hand hold you, season 4 assumes you have fully understood the information that the basement has revealed

Sean Carroll

Can you show us your tattoos, I wonder what their meaning? If its not to personal information :)

RaffixD 96

Breaking down "Shingeki No Kyojin" The title of the show is 進撃の巨人 (ShingekiNoKyojin) and as we learned this episode is also the name of Eren's titan. When translating to English, there is a bit of difficulty due to writing and grammatical differences. Although the English translation is one that Isayama himself approved, there are nuances lost in translation. 進撃の巨人 (ShingekiNoKyojin) = Attack On Titan AND Attack Titan The word "Shingeki" has multiple translations depending on the kanji used. 進+撃 = Advance, charge 侵+撃 = Invading and attacking の = A particle used to indicate possessive or nominalises verbs and adjectives. As in used to connect/show ownership of things or concepts. 巨人 = (Kyojin) Giant The word titan was chosen due to the Greek mythos of the titans, who were "elder gods" that ruled the Earth before the Olympians. Basically ancient, giant beings that ruled the world - just like in the history we learned in AoT. The "Shingeki" that Isayama chose uses the kanji for "advance/charge", so a more accurate translation would technically be something like: "The titan that charges onward" or "The advancing titan" which both have the implication of "The titan that keeps moving forward" - as Kruger said: "No matter what era this titan has found itself in, it has pushed ever forward, seeking out freedom. For the sake of freedom, it fights." However those don't work well in English when trying to have a catchy or short title, so in order to simplify it "Attack on Titan" was chosen, and therefore "The Attack Titan" is what Eren's titan's name is. Basically in Japanese the title of the show and the name of the titan are pronounced the exact same: "Shingeki No Kyojin", whilst in English there has to be a slight change due to how our grammar works. I know it's a bit complicated, but AoT is a complex show with a lot of nuance, so it's only fitting the title is too.

Hippopi

oh for gods sake go away

Sean Carroll

Oh god 😂. Just imagine if they watched this one and the last episode in dub; the dialogue is just that much more comprehensible and coherent; they wouldn't have to pause and go back at all and would have understood everything immediately, unlike here 😅.

Arian65

I just wan't to say just to make this more bearable. Everyone was hella confused by episode 20 and 21 and more. Especially 20. You are not alone. I rewatched it 3 times and i never take notes of stuff but i actually had to do it that time because i was too confused by everything going on

Gatha Naranath

Kruger's last line asking "whose memories are those" always sends chills down my back

Jay

Grisha consumed Eren Kruger who had the power of the attack titan. And then he stole the founding titan from Frida Reiss. So Eren now has both the attack titan and founding titans powers. The mission to retrieve the founding titans back under Marley rule was well as u know Reiner, Annie, Bertholdt, Zekes duty

Gatha Naranath

Hi! Thank you for another great reaction!! This might help you a little: When they referred to "Subjects of Ymir": They are talking about people that's in bloodline of the founder Ymir.(Ones who can turn into titans) When they referred to "Eldians": They are talking about people who lived in Eldia.(Not everyone can turn into titans) There are lots of new phrasings in these episodes it might confuse you. But don't worry, as you said, most of us didn't understand it in the first watch! Season 3 is almost done! I can't believe you're finally starting AOT! lol Have fun and take care :)

hiro ame

mentioning zekes importance is a spoiler man. im sure the mod will realize it but yeah. imo should just let it play out

Concepts94

This isn’t quite correct. Isayama specifically requested the English version to be called Attack on Titan because he thought it sounded more catchy.

Kevin

Love the reactions! These episodes are so fun to watch others react to for the first time :D, im so glad you pause and discuss underway. Also, do you guys remember the name of the first episode of season 1? And the first scene after the intro song? What are your thoughts on that now?

KornSirkel

This is a really important detail that people very often get confused about, actually the most often mistaken fact in the entire series. In this episode Eren realized that he was only able to use the founder's powers when he came into contact with Dina Fritz, a TITAN with royal blood. Once again he suspects that he has touch a TITAN with royal blood, not just a regular Eldian with royal blood. That's exactly why he decided to stay quiet and keep this information to himself. He fears that the military could potentially turn historia into a pure titan so be able to use the founder's powers. We currently know that there is one titan out there that has royal blood, which is Zeke. People often think that Eren would be able to able to use the founder's powers by just touching Historia, which isn't the case at all.

Armin Arlert

Very understandable for not understand some things, but you guys actually understood almost everything and have the right idea. It's important to note that there are things you're not even supposed to understand to the full extent because that's actually the intention. As Kruger said, "The only truth is that there is no truth". Here are some key points to reiterate: - The TRUE history of Marley and Eldia is unknown right now. On one hand, Marley uses historical propaganda to achieve their goals. On the other hand, Grisha couldn't even decipher the ancient (religous?) texts but he spread his version of history, simply because he "believes" in Ymir, similar to a religious faith. The Marleyan guard who killed Faye explains the consensus of the world's view on Eldians: an evil race who can turn into titans that committed atrocities in the past, and can also rise back at any time from the island. - The Eldian Empire (long ago) all consisted of humans. It just happens to be that 9 of those humans could turn into monstrous and powerful titans. Any civilization who has these titans would have great military strength and would develop a system to keep these titans on their side (sacrifice rituals to transfer the powers to another person). Over the course of history, Marley has been trying to obtain control over these 9 titans and successfully managed to get a good chunk of them by the present time. Can you guess what they are? - Subjects of Ymir (race) and Eldians (nationality) loosely refer to the same people. - The "Coordinate" and "Founding titan" are synonymous. The past inheritors of the Founding titan that you guys know of so far, are Ymir ("original" Ymir, not scout Ymir), Rod's father, Uri, Frieda, Grisha, and Eren. Ymir is believed to be the first titan, and as you guys saw, Eldians and Marleyans have their own theories on the origin of titans. Do you you guys have your own theories on titan origins or believe on a particular side? - Eren obtained both the Founding titan and the Attack titan from his father. This means someone can be multiple titans at once. - As you guys mentioned with Historia's interaction with the letter and Eren's dialogue in the meeting, there seems to be supernatural abilities that are not understood fully with people of royal decent. There are other significant concepts that you guys were wondering about but can't get into for spoilers. All I can say is that even the most fictional aspects have the realest meanings behind them. It's definitely alright to not understand some details because the show drives the points in you as go on, so enjoy the ride in seeing how this all unfolds!

Nate

By the way, the name of the Attack titan in Japanese is Shingeki no Kyojin, which is also the name of the show (Attack on Titan) in Japanese. Due to some translation complications and potentially mistakes the show was named in English Attack on Titan. Just wanted to highlight this important info that will never be explained in the show to highlight the importance of the Attack Titan and it's influence in the whole series

Armin Arlert

No, eldians=ethnicity, because their are Eldians everywhere. Some eldians live in the nation of marley for example. So they would be ethnically eldian, but their nationality would be marleyean Subjects of Ymir and eldians is the exact same thing, both are their ethnicity.

Emanuel 2

I know the answer of your first question but can't answer it here yet.

Armin Arlert

They were understanding the entire last episode just fine they just kept letting themselves get confused with the Fritz/Reiss and Eldian/Subjects of Ymir stuff. Once they cleared that up this episode they were good to go

IQLou

pour one out for my girl Ymir. in another aot universe i imagine her and historia happily married.

silly goose

Felt like you guys got pushed on your back foot last episode, but was great to see you guys making all the connections yourselves in this episode! Awesome that you got to a pretty complete understanding by the end of this episode.

Kevin

Keep in mind that the people from Marly hate the eldians, thats why they didnt care about killing greeshas sister because they saw her as a monster. But they keep the refugees there to turn them into titans or to pass the titan power, and yes like you said they do send them to paradise island as titans to kill other potential titans to be. The ending could have two meaning, is eren looking back to the memories of the attack titans that came before him and being able not just to see their thoughts but to live their lives. Or is the owl being able to see to the future attack titan memories as well just like the first king is able to control the funder titan. Who know!

Papisuky

Oh boy, these last 2 reactions were some good ones! I'll try and clear up some of the more confusing points for ya. 1st and foremost, Jared commented on how Mikasa looked "battered" and we can see something is off with her. Well, imagine finding out that the 2 people closest to you are going to die in 8 and 13 years, leaving you alone ☹️ so yeah Jordan was right, she's basically in denial of the 13 year curse. Now then, on to the more confusing points: 1) Subjects of Ymir and Eldians are the same thing. Eldia was the name of the kingdom henceforth the term Eldians. They are all descendents of The Founder Ymir. Ultimately, they are a race who can turn into titans. 2) King Fritz is the king who fled during the great titan war 100 years ago and relocated into the island we now know as Paradis. He took as many of his eldians with him and constructed the 3 walls we know and love. He then erased their memories of the outside world. He left a message to the people of Marley that if they dare interfere with his island he will unleash all of the titans in the walls and flatten the world. However, that was nothing but a lie to give him some time of peace. He made a vow renouncing war as we all know, making any royal who possesses the founder unable to fight back. This is why the walls were allowed to be broken into in the 1st place. The royal possessing the Founding Titan can't fight back even if they wanted to, because the original King Fritz WANTS things to end that way. Why? Who knooowsss 🤔 3) The eldians left behind on Marley were forced into concentration camps. We saw that they are treated unfairly and heavily indoctrinated. They are taught that they come from a race of "devils" whose ancestors did terrible things, thus creating a sense of self hate. As Grishas father said, "they should be glad Marley allows them to live quiet humble lives." 4) Fritz and Reiss are the same royal family. Fritz is the original name, but somewhere along the line they decided to create a fake name and rule from the shadows of Paradis. That's why Rod was considered as "nothing but a mere regional lord" when in truth his family possessed the Founding Titan. 5) The 9 Titans are what we used to know as intelligent titans. So far we have seen 8. Founding, Attack, Armor, Beast, Colossal, Female, scout ymir(not named yet) and quadruped(not named yet) 6) Zeke, Reiner, Annie and Berthold all come from Marley. Remember last episode, Marley was looking for 'subjects of ymir' to be chosen as "Warriors" to fight for Marley. Only eldians can turn into titans which is why Marley keeps them around. As an incentive, whoever is chosen, as well as their family, will be given the title of "Honarary Marlyan" giving them a higher status and more freedom. Marley ain't shit lol 7) "In order to save Mikasa, Armin and the others" 😳😵‍💫🤯😳 Hope that helps!! Can't wait for the season finale and onward to season 4 🔥

Val

just to clarify a couple things, - the nine titans are the intelligent titans - the eldians and the subjects of ymir are two names for the same people - the reiss family in the walls is related to the fritz family outside the walls, but the fritz family in the walls that was proven to be fake isn’t related to either hope this helps, you guys are understanding more of these episodes than me on my first watch that’s for sure

Aidan

Isn't basically the title Subjects of Ymir = Race and Eldians= nationality???

Kenken

Bro that’s not what they meant, don’t be stupid again. They meant the basement in and of itself is underwhelming. They said the information however is overwhelming. They explained this twice and you still use your own narrative because you choose to purposefully misunderstand what they say

Sean Carroll

Fritz or Reiss? To clarify your question about who is the true royal family, Originally Fritz was the Royal family. But we know from this season that the last king Fritz was fake, therefore he had a fake name, he wasn't really a Fritz. It was revealed that Reiss was the current true Royal family possessing the Founding Titan (Before Grisha stole it) and controlling this society inside the walls of the islands within the shadows. So basically it's implied that at some point the real Fritz family changed their last name to Reiss and established a fake Fritz lineage so they could hide and go unnoticed in the public eye to protect themselves and the Founding Titan. This was possible with the Founding Titan's power to wipe out memories.

Armin Arlert

It's interesting that the attack Titan is the only titan that has always fought for freedom through every era. I wonder why? 🤔 Any guesses guys? Also the ending reminds me of that theory that the past, present, and future are all happening at the same time. Some people believe that the truth behind ghosts is just people from the past or present and somehow it affects the current time we are experiencing now. Do y'all have any theories like that??

Kenken

Reiss is a fake name

Sean Carroll

Almost done with the tutorial! Season 4 is nutty

Manuel

To clear up who wrote the books that Grisha had in possession of, they were written by Grisha himself. Erwin's father (and no one else until now) didn't read these books, but rather starting noticing things not adding up in the current history books on the island. Grisha wrote the books in secret in the basement from all he remembered while living in Marley until that moment he left Eren in episode one of season one.

The only truth is that there is no truth... and we got mindf***ed 🫠

CamilleR

when are you guys going to watch another movie its been forever

Pocketsafe

they gonna be reacting with forehead veins next ep after they rewtach the last 3 LOL

SaltySaelzer

So, do you still think the basement reveal was underwhelming? 🤣 Also, congratulations on almost completing the prologue of AOT.

Armin Arlert

“Whose memories are those?”

Hippopi

S4 incoming let's gooooo !!!

Sorea

That sounds more like a nightmare, Yikes! 😳😬

Cheryl Lambert

Guys the Reiss family are royalty, and are technically the Fritz bloodline. The reason they are now the Reiss within the walls is because they went into hiding - hence why they put a fake “King Fritz” on the throne. The Reiss were still controlling everything from the shadows.

Hippopi

Thank you, I've heard so many ppl dog on season 4s animation and I loved it. They did a great job considering the circumstances and expectations on them. I genuinely just think people want something to complain about because mappa consistently churns out bangers

"Who's the enemy - the world" 🔥

bort

Key details just fly over these two’s heads…I love it lol

Aj Makaiwi

are you finally ready for AOT?

LittleSynyster

part of the problem with absorbing all the new information is remembering all the details from earlier episodes! and we all know how that goes, it's hard to remember everything 😅 everyone has their limits on how much information they can absorb at once. i know once you do your rewatch you will have a stronger grasp on everything, and maybe remember more details from earlier episodes 😁

I’ll try to clear things up again as much as i can without spoilers From our current knowledge There are 9 titans that were used by Eldians to conquer people. Some of these 9 include the Armored, Female, Attack, and the most powerful one the Founding. One of the kings felt bad about eldias history and moved his people to an island called paradis and formed walls, which is where the story took place for the past 3 seasons he took alot of eldians with him, but not all, and the eldians left around the world were persecuted because of their ability to turn into titans. They were seen as devils 7 of the 9 ended up being controlled by marley (the 2 that weren’t caught were the founding and attack) About the royals, i guess Reiss is just a fake name and they really descended from the fritzs About the Founding titan, its powers can not be fully utilized unless you are a royal, or in contact with a royal Another thing to know, Eren has the attack titan from Kruger, and the founding from Freida, so he has 2 of the 9 currently One last thing, Ymir (historias girl) didn’t die because of curse of ymir. If you look closely when historia touches the letter, she is hooked up to chains. She got eaten

Emanuel 2

Haven’t watched yet. Out and about so I’ll come back later to watch. But i had another AOT inspired dream last night. I was locked in a house. Like a big metal house. It was like we couldn’t go anywhere and we had schedules of when we could go outside and what we could eat. It was giving maze runner, divergent type of feel. Then the people in charge were picking people to become titans lol. Well they were calling it ‘monsters’. So me and my friends broke out and tried to run away but they caught us again. They picked me to serve for them as a monster. I don’t remember what actually happened after that tho. I just remember the dream being chaotic lol.

Kia

I haven’t watched this yet, but just the thumbnail is hilarious, yall look sooo stressed 😭😭💀

Steph

"I have this issue where I start talking and I don't stop talking." Same bro same Also there's a couple of things in this show that can be seen as synonymous for viewers sake. Founder/founding titan= coordinate Subjects of Ymir=Eldians While they're not 100% synonymous thinking of them as such is 1000% okay to do and does help.

Animation Studio Change Info for J&J: Wit Studios, which animated AoT S1-S3, handed over the reigns to Mappa Studios for Season 4. Just wanted to give some info on that cause it’s quite interesting. AoT Season 1 was Wit Studios debut anime, but they were hired as contractors and the artists had little say compared to the production company/team. They were also extremely underpaid considering AoT became a worldwide phenomenon, yet they were still getting paid their initial rates as contractors. By Season 4, apparently the production team were demanding absurd deadlines, and Wit animators said if they continued, S4 would have to be very low quality to meet these deadlines. They also said their smaller company could not handle the scope that S4 AOT would entail. So, for these reasons and to switch their business model to producing their own animes instead of contracting to be profitable, they gave up rights to AoT, but put out a call to any studio willing to finish it. I’ve heard most studios were way too scared to touch it since filling Wit’s shoes would be insanely hard. But Mappa took up the offer and was able to negotiate much better terms so that the animators had the time to make the show high quality. This angered some fans since Season 4 alone took several years to be released and finished, but in the end it’s definitely a massive win, as now the finished product of AoT is high quality from beginning to end. Mappa is a very big name animation studio that you guys will definitely see other animes from in the future. They use different animation techniques so you’ll notice that starting S4, but the animators were very respectful in maintaining the general art design that Wit studios had so it’s not too big of a change-up on the audience. Isayama also collaborated with Mappa just like he did with Wit. So all-in-all, it ended up being a pretty massive win for everyone. Mappa did a great job animating S4, and Wit Studios moved on to produce some extremely good animes that they fully owned (Vinland Saga, Spy Family, etc.). When this was all going down AoT fans were freaking out, understandably, but now in hindsight, I feel as if this was a huge win for AoT, as all the artists involved were able to navigate around business issues and a generally toxic industry to finish out AoT strong. Personal note, Season 4 is my favorite season of AoT and my favorite season of all time. Can’t wait to see you guys experience it!
