DN - Ep. 29 Reaction! | "FATHER" 😳

Comments

Hi Jared and Jordan. This is my first comment, and I figure it’s fitting since I’m all caught up. I started watching you guys over at YouTube without interacting much, but I looked forward to each reaction episode. Found myself feeling excited to rewatch and experience one of my favorite anime with you guys, and it kind of has been my go-to pick-me-up after a hard week. Thanks for brightening my days with these reactions. I’m a recent Patreon too, and I’m not ashamed to say I’ve been home sick with the flu and BINGE WATCHED every reaction in two days! Phew, what a treat it has been! Huge appreciation for the theories and time you spent on immersing yourselves into this show, especially how open-minded you are since this is a medium that wasn’t in your lives before. Thanks for giving anime a chance! Question: Since the chief is the embodiment of what Light would’ve been like as a police officer without the presence of the Death Note, do you believe with his father’s passing that Light’s last shred of justice died as well? Sorry for the long message. I’ll patiently wait for the next episode. Thank you for existing! Much love from Denmark! <3

The scene of Soichiro Yagami telling his son "Light, you really aren't Kira. I'm so glad" always made me cry

L,M,N. Can this be the sequence that hints how many people have taken that role. One for each letter of the alphabet. Now i wonder what the predecessors look like or acted like. Hope there is a prequel later on!

Even though it is false, I am glad chief yagami died thinking that light is not Kira. He was a wonderful man and deserved to have a peaceful death ❤️

You are kidding me. The only thing Light cares about is manipulating his father. His father is really dying and He plotted to himself "it won't be strange if act out at this time" and preceeded with the whole FAKE bedside drama. Light is such a well written fictional character that he is able to manipulate Jordan in real life. The great poet Maya Angelou said " when someone shows you who they are believe them; the first time. A quote I can't forget and tried to imprint on my children.

You said L, M, N. What about you add K (kira) as for L (Light pretending to be L) and M, N. We need an O, and the P can be the Police lol

This episode was painful to watch and I felt so bad for poor Chief Yagami.. As a father he looked so relieved in his last moments believing that his son isn't Kira.. on the other hand Light only cared about his dying dad writing Mello's real name in the notebook before he died. It made me tear up.. Thats the same father who refused to get out of prison himself unless his son was proven innocent to L and set free. Light really does care about no one else but himself 😕 he has no chance of redemption after this atleast for me

For me, this episode is even more emotionally impactful than the one where L dies. Ryuk's conclusion is, as always, insightful. Additionally, I'd like to discuss L and his successors, Near and Mello. Near exhibits absolute calmness, while Mello possesses strong action force. As for L, he seems to be somewhere in between the two. He is emotionally affected and challenged by Light's actions, yet he also engages in actions himself and responds calmly.

Like you guys said, Light’s cries when his dad dies are up for interpretation for if they are real or fake. One popular interpretation is that there is a shot focusing on Light dropping the pen right before he cries. This could be the author symbolizing that just for a moment, Light isn’t in his Kira persona, and is in fact crying over his dad’s death.

An important thing to take away from this episode is that Light knows Mello's name from listening in on the conversation his dad and Mello had. The only reason Light cannot kill Mello on his own is because he never saw his face and so has nothing to associate the name to. The drawings of Near and Mello that Light looked at would not allow the death note to work if Light had tried writing their names while picturing the sketches.

Soichiro Yagami dying believing that his son wasn't kira has to be one of the only pleasant moments in this show.

Light really is a genius, planned ahead by relinquishing ownership of the Death Note so his father could see his remaining lifespan (Dieing in peace). It's likely that his father's death was part of Light's overall plan, as he meticulously orchestrates events to achieve his goals. Even if Light's father is alive after Mello's events and if he were to write down Mello's real name, Light would have to kill his father on the 13 day to make the 13-day fake rule seem real (if his father won't continue writing names). "Kira" Light is evil.

I think that when Chief Yagami died, we first saw Kira searching for a way to win like he always does (not caring for people other than himself) but we also saw Light crying for his father, losing himself (the son, the big brother, Light) and his humanity a bit more. I truly think that him crying was not an act at the end, I think he truly felt the lost of his Dad, and not just the lost of Chief Yagami, a police colleague.
