Mello & Near take 'competition' to a whole new level 😳
You may notice a slight audio change from 17:07 - 17:50. For some reason our mic’s disconnected during this part, but our camera was able to capture it!

Arian, it's highly unlikely that people are paying to be here just to lie about stuff. J&J were informed that it was a deleted scene, and that's why people are saying it is. Most of us had never heard about it before. Surely you could think of a more tactful way to present your new information.

There are two different live actions, a Japanese with multiple movies and an American one that I think is only one movie. The Japanese are really good, highly recommend. The American one.... not so much. Though, of course, after the series is over.

I was thinking the same thing, I didn't notice until this rewatch how Near and Mello seem like opposites but really embody equally important facets of L's character; the cool-headed analytical side and the foolhardy, risk-taking, willing-to-operate-outside-the-law side.

ironic that my favorite episode is the one where L dies, yet as the episodes go on without him i miss him more and more.

Interesting you said Near was building matchstick castles, while L was just building sugarcube towers and eating them. Near might not be eating the matchstick castles, but Mello is eating chocolate all the time. Honestly I've never dived much into the symbolism before but you saying that L was taking a sugar cube... and EATING IT! made me realise, Near and Mello are both facets of L in their habits. Near also has his personality of being like really passive, overly logical, quite in control of his emotions. Mello is the part of L that takes massive risks and outrageous actions, it seems.

Looks like we have a mini L and mini Light on our hands !! I love it. Still devastated about L 😢 but excited to see how this continues ! I was not at all expecting such a time jump

The first time I watched this series as a kid, I hated the introduction of Near and Mello because I felt like they were just cheap replacements for L (the GOAT). But after rewatching with you guys, I now love this development so much because of course Near and Mello aren't meant to be L's replacement--they are his final move. As long as they're in play, L hasn't truly been defeated.
And I love the final moment in Episode 27 where Light feels like chains are closing in around him, just as the boys L left behind have grown into young men and are closing in on the hunt for Kira.

I'm not 'straight-up lying' - but if this isn't a deleted scene then I'm misinformed. The conclusion was drawn from something pretty blatant in the final episode.

"With the deleted scene, there is a reason its left out" You're just straight-up lying, that was not a deleted scene, it was invented specifically for the first Relight movie as an additional scene to give people who watched the series a reason to watch the movies. It's not canon and was not even in the manga.

Don’t worry about being confused as you guys finish the series out, from here on out it does feel very, very complex. But like all good series it will all make sense by the end. Just give it your best shot and have fun with it!

Here is a quick clarification so that you understand the timeline:
When Near and Mello learned about L's death, it was in 2007 (as indicated on the screen), just one year after L's death. But then the show fast-forwards to 2012, which is when the story is currently unfolding. That's why Light's sister is all grown up. Near and Mello are no longer kids because five years have passed since they learned about L's death. So, Mello is now 20 years old, and if we assume that Near is as old as Mello, then he must also be 20 years old.
Here's a quick timeline:
2006: L dies
2007: Near and Mello find out about L's death
2012: Near is leading the "SPK" and Mello is somewhat of a gangster, both trying to catch Kira.

In case you missed it. They were 15 (at least Melo) when they received the news that L had died and it was December 2007. The next scene they show the present where it says 5th of March 2012, so they would be 19 or 20 years old by then.

With the deleted scene, there is a reason its left out, which we don't know until the show is over... so can't say anything yet.

Wow I'd never seen that deleted scene before. That's cool. And also a little creepy.
