2024-04-13 15:46:11 +0000 UTCThis isn’t a spoiler since it’s explained directly through Connie and Sasha’s conversation with Christa in this episode, so just to clarify: Ymir’s whole, “I need to trade you to save myself” story was a complete lie. She realized Christa would only go along with them if she thought it would save someone else, so she made all that up. And it worked like a charm, Christa was immediately on board. This is what Connie is telling Christa when he’s holding her. “Ymir only shows effort when you’re in trouble, you think she’d sacrifice you to save herself? She’s lying! Of course that’s a lie!”

2024-04-13 10:38:14 +0000 UTCI hope you've read all the other comments pointing out the "important" scene that you misinterpreted regarding Erwin and Armin, this is why I suggested previously to atleast minimize the pauses a little bit when something crazy is happening because you can always rewind and discuss anyway....just play it out so you won't miss details specially when its during epic action scenes. This is merely an advice, as you can see a lot of the comments are about that so meaning other viewers noticed it too. There will be more shocking, crazy and confusing episodes ahead of you so minimizing this habit of yours would help you in the long run too 🙏🤗😅

He's not afraid to sacrifice others and himself (or his arm in this case) for the sake of humanity.. Also Bertholdt's iconic line, 'Someone had to be the one to do it... In relation to this, something which I think will be useful to keep in mind going forward with the series is that what you see or hear from one character's perspective/mindset may not be the same as from someone else's perspective. It may not even be the reality of it. Hajime Isayama's characters feel so much like real people because they think and act how humans truly do. Unlike in most media where characters are merely devices used to convey information to the audience, the characters in AoT function as individuals; each with their own goals, experiences and personalities. In other words, you can't take something someone says as the simple truth or as if it's reality. People misunderstand things, they have their own biases, and most importantly: People LIE. It's up to us, the audience, to use the information and understanding we currently have to decide on what is true or not. Does something line up with everything else previously known? Does something seem out of character or illogical for that character to do? Has there been any implication towards this new information before? These are all things we do naturally in our day to day lives, yet seemingly dismiss such things when watching a fictional story. Isayama's writing is PEAK because everyone feels REAL. So go into the show thinking of them as real people, rather than mere storytelling devices, and you'll be able to figure out and understand the implications of what characters say a lot easier. Lastly: Japanese is very different to English, not only in sentence structure and formalities, but in the very culture of it - in Japanese, it is often just as much about what ISN'T said, as what IS said. You're expected to read beneath the lines and know what is being implied rather than taking things at face value.

Basically they just fought Annie around 24 hours ago, (you know that the timeline is very confusing) so what happens is that R & B don’t know that Annie was discovered and captured. They talked about going back for Annie but it was because they thought she was safe, not captured. And yes, Armin did lie on the fact that Annie is being tortured because R & B don’t know that Annie crystallized so basically like that, she can’t be tortured. Armin has a big MF brain to pull that off at that moment.

Unless Im overanalyzing but yet I miss everything 😅 This episode not only showed those in-CHARGE, but got me CHARGED up af 😤 1. Commander Erwin Smith 🫡 - this man took sole CHARGE of using the squads as bait for the titans, on a mission to rescue a single man. Literally no hesitation whatsoever when he CHARGED towards the horde of titans surrounding A (the look on each of the squad members at that moment was epic). Even when that titan abruptly grabbed him by his arm like a doll, his unshakeable resolve CHARGED up his squads, commanding them to advance. This man is fearless, is he a Titan too? If his missing arm regenerates later, Im calling it out now 😂 2. Mikasa Ackerman 💀 - like death herself, staring into your soul, ready to burn you into ashes. She definitely meant every word when she said “you are mistaken to seek compassion from me” and “I’ll kill everyone who gets in my way”. She showed a CHARGE of cold-heartedness with a single focus. I actually wonder how Eren would have reacted if he saw Mikasa’s death glare through that gap. He’s lucky he didnt see her as his back was facing her. The terror look on Bertholdt, I feel him fr. Also, I dont think shes a Titan..unless scars still remain 🤷♀️ 3. Armin Arlet 😈 - For the one who pretty much wore his heart on his sleeve, not breathe a single word but observed when Jean, Connie and Sasha talked about how they lived and survived together during training years. The moment he asked himself what he have to abandon and found his answer, that look and smile was one devoid of any uncertainty and filled with pure evil. He CHARGED Bertholdt with guilt, emphasizing on the sadism and planting those images (definitely in my head! 😖). For a moment, it actually looked like he enjoyed seeing Bertholdt’s pained face. But the next second Erwin did what he did to break Eren free, that look changed back to ‘normal’ 😄. 👏🏻 Oscar-worthy 4. Jean Kirschtein - One minute he found it crazyy that Mikasa was still gonna CHARGE head-on into the horde of titans. Next minute, he did not hesitate at all, to CHARGE straight up to that titan and blind it, freeing Mikasa from its grip. Man, this fella showed some real courage when you compare that to the beginning. Human Ymir popping out of her Titan-quite a nasty sight tbh Ymir saying “I stole the power of the Titans from one of their comrades..” makes me think its got something to do with Marcel. In the flashback, Marcel was with the other 3-who are all Titans with special powers. Actually makes sense why her teeth didnt look as sharp, when she ate Marcel. But doesnt explain why she didnt look much different after she ate him though. That scene when Bertholdt cried, I will be lying if I say that did not tug at my heartstrings. We’ve actually seen Annie, R&B and Ymir cried at some point already. And we still dont know most of their stories yet 😔 With one more episode to end S2, of course they HAD to invite and lay out the red carpet for the murderer of Eren’s mum for the party..why not..is Grisha invited too? 😅 One of my favorite lines: Jean: What’s going on? Is it hell? Erwin: No, but it will be! 🔥 And.. “Give your hearts!!” Till S2 finale 🙏🏻💜

Ymir is actually very selfless when it comes to Historia..and she only said all that to get her to come along with her. Because ymir knows that Historia is too good natured to deny her cry for help even if it means she has to sacrifice herself.. What do you guys think about Ymir saying that she stole the power of the titans from one of R&B's comrade after reading the "information available for public disclosure" in this episode? Also guys about Bertholdt's transformation.. the colossal titan is very huge (duh) and slow.. Bertholdt transforming isn't going to give them all much help plus Reiner, Ymir, Eren, and Historia are gonna die if a 60 meter colossal decides to appear on Reiner's back XDD OMG y'all missed Erwin cutting Eren free from Bertholdt ;w; I'm sure you guys will notice when you rewatch in dub

She knew that the only way to get Historia to go along with them was to convince her that it would save someone else, and it worked like a charm. After that Historia was completely on board with going with them, thinking it would save Ymir. This lie worked especially well because up until that point, Ymir’s whole schtick was that she’s brutally honest. I find the next scene particularly interesting because it’s Connie/Sasha explaining how obvious this lie is. The two characters generally portrayed as airheads. They may not have traditional intelligence like figuring out plot points, battle strategies, etc., but this demonstrates some clearly high level emotional intelligence and understanding to immediately discern Ymir’s lie.

2024-04-12 22:12:16 +0000 UTCOne of the most significant things I noticed upon rewatching season 1 is how we see Erwin, the commander of the Survey Corps, performing the "dedicate your heart" salute along with the rest of the soldiers. When we see the Military Police soldiers perform the salute at the end of season 1, the captain has the demeanor of "relax, no need to be so formal." For the Survey Corps, the salute means exactly what it says. It has a real content, and Erwin whole-heartedly means it when he performs it, as we saw in this episode. For the Military Police, it's a formality. Erwin, Levi, Hange, etc, all have their own reasons for being in the army, but in the end they nonetheless set aside their own self-preservation and dedicate their lives to the ultimate cause of overcoming the titans. Even though they are there for personal reasons, they are able to dedicate their hearts if that is what is required of them. It isn't easy for them and we see them struggling with it, but that is the difference between the Survey Corps and the Military Police.
