2024-03-27 05:55:49 +0000 UTCThis is just my own personal philosophy on whatโs happening with Lightโs morals, so donโt take it as fact or anything super related to the plot of the show. In my opinion, media typically shows shifting morals in two ways. In the first, morals are stripped away. Basically any dystopian/zombie movie, where otherwise โmoralโ people are stripped down to fight or flight and must make horrific decisions to save themselves and their loved ones. In the second, the opposite approach is taken, and morals are stacked on top of existing morals, effectively making a tier list of them. Many political movies do this, where a โmoralโ character gains power and responsibility, and thus has to make some horrific decisions โfor the greater goodโ. I think Light here is an example of us being shown a character immediately in the end-stages of the second approach in Episode 1, as he gains a god complex very early on, and thus the morals of โcreating a better worldโ supersede any other morals. And now in this arc we actually see a reversal to Light before this, and witness his โsecond-tierโ morals shine through. I think itโs a very interesting narrative choice, essentially doing a reverse method 2. There are many, many, other equally valid theories about who light truly is, whatโs true and fake, what are his actual morals, etc. though. Thatโs just my own opinion.

I don't know where that quote comes from. My guess, it has to be either Black Mirror or Breaking Bad, sense those are the 2 shows you guys mentioned a few times: Breaking Bad being your favorite. Other than that, I have no idea. Really hope someone figures it out. Can't wait to see who.
