Haikyuu!! 1x3 REACTION!

Comments

It took a long time for me to start liking Tsukishima.

Free Spirit

also the upper classman setter's name is pronounced Su-ga. it is similar to suga's stage name but they are pronounced differently...

BtsOT79798

I believe that sets can be longer if one of the teams keeps getting to the end point

BtsOT79798

Tsukki is one of my favorite characters. He’ll definitely grow on you, or at least I hope he does haha. Kageyama and Hinata’s rivalry will definitely help them grow as individuals.

Veronica

This definitely makes sense now. Thanks Bibi!!

Jared & Jordan

This is SO intriguing. Please keep the "Beryl Tidbits" coming... we love them and learn so much every time. You all are professionals at providing us information without spoiling anything for us! We don't know how you do it haha!! Thanks again 🙏

Jared & Jordan

Yet another 🤯 piece of information. Ty Beryl!!!

Jared & Jordan

Well freakin said Shelby! This makes more sense now :)

Jared & Jordan

🙏🙏 Will do! Thank you Muhammad!

Jared & Jordan

Oooo thanks so much for such an in-depth comment! We appreciate you!

Jared & Jordan

We are happy to hear this :)

Jared & Jordan

🤣True true!

Jared & Jordan

🙏

Jared & Jordan

Wooo thanks so much Rhast! HAHA "EVIL TWIN SPORTS CHEATERS" indeed. 🤷🏽‍♂️👀 And great point! this makes a lot of sense. Thank you for this insight!

Jared & Jordan

Aw thanks Charaety! It most definitely matched up with the weather hahah! That is so interesting that nobody wanted to be a setter but that you ended up loving it. Thank you for sharing this did-bit of info about you. We can only imagine the pressure that is involved with this position. We played volleyball a few times back in gym class in high school, but always found it difficult to hit the ball back across the net. Maybe we will try again in our adulthood now the there is no pressure 😂 ANDD absolutely.. props to Hinata. The boy is one small ball of energy. He makes us smile! Can't wait for the next few episodes!

Jared & Jordan

This is a relief for us haha... for some reason we love to talk a little much, but glad to hear you enjoy it Fe! ❤️

Jared & Jordan

😂 Hopefully he will grow on us! Thanks Bibi!

Jared & Jordan

This makes a lot of sense! Thank you Karia :)

Just a clarification about deuce: If a deuce occurs, one team must be two points ahead to win the set. For example, if Team A and Team B are at 24 points (a deuce) then Team A will win if they get to 26 points WHILE Team B is still on 24 points (Team A is now 2 points ahead of Team B). Let’s say Team B gets to 25 points after a deuce then Team A (currently at 24 points) will have to get to 27 points (2 points ahead of Team B) to win the set. It’s always 2 points ahead of your opponent's point AFTER getting a deuce in order to win the set. That means the points can sometimes get in the 30s since it’s difficult to get 2-3 points in a row. Hope that made sense.

Bibi

Oh, bonus bonus tidbit, so Kageyama's full name is Kageyama Tobio. There is a pun with Tobio, one possible interpretation is "do the jumping", or more figuratively "setting up the jump" (ie setter). And Shoyo's full name is Hinata Shoyo, where again there is a pun with Hinata as one interpretation is "sun directing" or more figuratively "directing the ray of light" (ie spiker). There's plenty of other character wordplay, this manga creator really liked his puns and metaphors. (I won't spoil anything but there is a very funny one based on how another school will interact with karasuno later in the show)

Beryl_foxturtle

Hey guys, you made a very astute observation of that scene with the rising sun and connecting it to my comment about Kageyama and Shoyo's name. So I thought I'd throw in some bonus tidbits on why nature based names are very common among Japanese people. Traditionally in Japan only nobles were allowed to have family names while peasants only had given names. At the beginning of the Meiji era (1868), the Japanese government made lots of social reforms which includes letting everybody have a family name regardless of social status. So peasants gave themselves family names but as they were peasants they mostly chose names inspired from farming and nature. For example Tanaka means 'middle of the rice field'. So if your family name is farm or nature based, chances are your ancestors were peasants (exceptions exist but it's like 99,999% accurate). This convention is generally followed in anime as well.

Beryl_foxturtle

so to clarify a little, when kageyama says “his great physical abilities make up for his unskillful clumsiness” (or when anyone on the team says similar) they basically mean that hinata has the physical ability to be a great player, he just has no idea how to use it. he gets by rn running purely off of born skill but if he wants to get to “little giant” level, he has to learn how to use those abilities correctly. that’s what they’re working on with him now. think about lab dogs, they have an incredible jump naturally and it can do a lot for them, but they’re not gonna win any serious competitions unless they’re trained properly.

19:05 please keep up the discussions! I really love hearing your guys' thoughts and conversations. If others don't want to hear it, they can of course skip to the reaction

Thanks for more Haikyuu!! content. I, too, really enjoy your “long rambles,” and getting to know you both better. You met some new characters. I can’t wait to see who you fall in love with as the series progresses. Following the amazing cast and their trials, victories, and growth is what makes the series shine! The author of the series, Haruichi Furudate, is very intentional and clever. There is a lot of symbolism in the art and language used. Many characters are foils. Hinata and Tsukishima (1st year w/ glasses) are a good example. Hinata embodies his “sunshine” name. He’s warm, cheery, an eternal optimist, fiery, and draws people in. Tsukishima wears his “moon” moniker well as someone whose sardonic, cold, pessimistic nature leaves others at arm’s length. So, yes, characters’ names and teams’ names throughout the series are intentional and worth looking up on the series’s wiki on haikyuufandom.com. Tip: Don’t miss the little “commercial breaks” between scenes. They are some of my favorite comedy pieces. The “outtakes” show small goofs, failures, and successes. The little extra scenes highlight each character’s unique personality. Check them out more closely when you watch for helpful character insight. Question: Did you notice Kageyama’s vending machine drink of choice? Question: Are you both still competitive with each other? Competitive people in general? If yes, as adults, how do you feed your itch for competition these days? Love your work!

antionette7

yes, that is the correct meaning of their names!!

Lauren H.

keep the great discussions coming! I’m never bored with them lol

bubbaburto

well tsukki collecting hate from left to right lol but i love his sarcasm too. sometimes they are much needed

bebe

no we love ur discussions, keep them coming

bebe

Don't worry, Kageyama will show off how young he is. He's such a dumb cutie. Adorable.

Rhast

God, had to sub for more Haikyuu, you guys. Immediately after episode 2. You're awesome to watch and you're also doing Death Note so huge bonus! Omg, you guys are evil twin sports cheaters with your twin mind powers 😆 I'm so jealous Receiving is the most basic skill in volleyball. The setter can't set, and the spiker can't spike, unless someone receives it. So Kageyama saying 'I will not set to you until you learn the basics is not a bad thing. It's a great lesson, you can't just assume someone will give you what you want.

Rhast

Oh! And I always gotta give props to Hinata. His stamina, endurance and physical ability is insane (must be from biking that mountain every day!) The day before the match when Hinata was practicing his receives with Kageyama - that drill is no joke. And they were already at it for 15min when Tanaka came in? It’s no wonder Hinata threw up afterwards lol I always felt sad for Hinata that when the other team members first met him and Kageyama, they’d only acknowledge Kageyama first. I admire Hinata for living up to his name as the Sun and showing them that he’s there too!

Charaety

Okay you guys are seriously amazing! The timing of when you guys released the reactions for Death Note (yesterday) and then Haikyuu today definitely matched up with the SoCal weather 😂 The “Kira Storm” was heavy yesterday! But today there’s no rain, the sky is clearing and it’s gotten brighter - definitely a Haikyuu kind of day! Thank you guys for answering my questions! I was surprised Jared said no to being a spiker but definitely understood after learning more about the positions you’ve played in other sports! Most people I know always want to be a spiker, even I used to! When I was a freshman and went to vball try outs, the JV setter at the time didn’t want to set anymore and moved to be a hitter instead. Since they didn’t have a setter anymore, we had to do setting drills so the Coaches could see which of us could set and take her place. I intentionally didn’t try too hard cus I wanted to be a hitter but apparently I had the “setter hands” so I got pulled anyway 😂 No one ever wanted to be a setter and my Coach wouldn’t let me move positions all throughout high school, but I ended up loving it so it worked out lol Being the setter is a lot of pressure so I could see where Kageyama came from when he told Hinata that he would only set to anyone who’s essential to winning (though I thought he could’ve said it differently like Suga but it lit that fire so 🤷🏽‍♀️). I hope you guys do get to try learning and playing volleyball! I’m not sure how it is where you are, but over here it’s pretty popular. There are people playing at the beaches, parks, rec centers, in church gyms, etc. Beach volleyball is a lot harder with the sand though so maybe not the first place to try it 😅 Can’t believe as I was watching, I got the notification that the episode 4 reaction came out too! Made my day! Thank you guys!!

Charaety

don’t worry about the discussion being long, I personally enjoy it!

Fe

yall's first impression of Tsukishima (glasses tall 1st year) is hilarious 😂 👀 Loving the reaction! 💜

Bibi

What Shoyo meant with “they weren’t really teammates” is the fact they weren’t actual volleyball players. After all, that team was a bunch of friends he convinced to play with him which didn’t really like the sport. They did it as a favor to him, so they were just friends rather than real teammates, they didn’t even know all the rules.

KariaP

Yay 😁😁😁
