Haikyuu!! 1x1 (FIRST TIME REACTION!)

Comments

m'kay! i've watched s1 of this show, and that's it. idk, i liked where it ended and my adhd has problems focusing on longer anime series. but! i want to see your reactions. and since having company helps my focus, i can continue into the later seasons via the para-social illusion of watching it with you guys, lmfao. <3 off i go!

J.R. Worsing

I love this anime. Sports anime is so fun to watch but Haikyuu is the one that I like the most. If you want to learn the terms, the rules of volleyball and if anything that the anime shows is applicable to real life then you should watch volleyball coach reactions. I’ll put his link below. Your reaction is as great as your BTS reaction and I can’t wait to see all of your other anime reactions. If you ever want to watch some good basketball anime then you should watch Slam Dunk, Kuroko’s Basketball, and Ahiru no Sora. THIS ONE OMG!!!! I loveeee fairy tail!!!

Sharon Ortiz

Ah, AOT and Haikyuu?! I’m definitely behind but will catch up. I love Hinata (Shoyo) as a character. His growth throughout the story is amazing. Back during COVID it took me about three tries to get into this one. I’m not a sports fan at all and was clueless when it came to volleyball, but after watching Haikyuu I was so hyped up with each episode. Enjoy!

Veronica

An anime I think you both might like is Fairytail! its one of my favorite animes! that's complete and has some twists and turns plot wise and emotion wise that you may not expect and yes its cheasy with the anime trope "Friendship is Magic" But I still enjoy it to this day!

Thanks so much MaryRose!! This is really helpful. We are so excited to watch this series alongside you!! 😬😬

Jared & Jordan

I haven't seen a comment yet that answered one of your questions earlier, so I'll answer it for you! You asked about the "yellow" number in the middle on the scoreboard thingy at about 26:25. The team scores are on either side. The yellow number says what set/round they are currently playing in the game. Any other questions about how many sets are in a game are answered in the show so I thought I'd just provide that tiny snippet of info! I love Haikyuu!! So I'm excited you guys are watching it!

MaryRose

Definitely Code Geass, Hands down!…Demon Slayer is good but I dont think it could even compare to Code Geass at all. They are very different for a lot of things, I think Demon Slayer is a good watch, but it’s more simple and typical in a way, entertaining yes, but not as deep and intricate as the other. Code Geass is more mature, it has way more complex characters and plot twists. It has a lot of psychological and sociological aspects that are more comparable to Death Note than Demon Slayer. Maybe I could even say that it is a Magnum Opus when it comes to this genre and themes in anime. Thank you Jordan for teaching me this new word😅🤣 (When I first heard about Code Geass, I didn’t expect it to be THIS GOOD, I never knew it would change my prospective on a lot of things and make me question my morality more than what Death Note did)

IfraH

Thanks for coming along the journey with us Alana! And we are adding My Hero Academia to our list! Much love!!

Jared & Jordan

oh, that’s cool and i agree, Kuroko no Basket is really good.

KariaP

I haven't seen Haikyuu yet, so I'm excited to be taking this journey with y'all !!!! I know you guys already have a pretty stacked list for the future, but you guys also might wanna put My Hero Academia on your radar!!! That one's a really fun and action-packed show about a group of kids training to be professional superheroes. They have vastly different abilities with equally unique limitations that's really cool to see. Not to mention the really cool combat scenes. It's also super emotional and character-driven, which I think y'all would enjoy in a similar vein to the "can-do attitude" we see in Haikyuu.

Alana

Just fyi the fact that the students wear uniforms does not indicate that it's a private school--in Japan, everyone wears uniforms!

Lauren H.

One of the best anime sport for me al least is KOROKO'S BASKET Is so cool, solía no gustarme el basket pero una vez que lo vi, iba a todos los partidos de mi hermano y me sentía una experta, entrené a un grupo de niños en vacaciones y solo tenía en conocimiento de ese anime

Daya Santamaria

Yes, hinata was actually in the neighbouring town but he wanted to play in the school where his idol the little giant practiced was karasuno so he had to bike over the mountain for 30 mins but that doesn't phased him at all. my calves would be sore after that workout. i wont even be in a sports team if i have to do that lol

bebe

so it’s pronounced like “hi” and queue” and i’m one of the ones that LOVE this anime. it’s a comfort watch. my go to when i just need something to listen to while im doing other stuff. i’ve watched it through multiple times. i agree with another patreon member that bc this one is lighter you could definitely watch 2-4 in a watch session. especially bc later on in the series a lot of the eps are connected bc of the games. you’ll see what i mean when you get more into it! don’t worry too much about not knowing volleyball well. the show is very beginner friendly and goes out of its way to teach the watcher. also no, the person sho saw on tv was “the little giant” he was a karasuno high player.

shelby🖤

and also remember that hinata didn't have a coach to teach him basics at all, he just saw the little giant winning on tv and after that he just has been wanting to spike and nth else. but kageyama doesn't know about that so that's why he was asking what hinata was doing for the past 3 years as in "what have u been doing for 3 years that you cant do shit well when you have all that agility and athletic skills" and by 'first and last official match' means one needs to have at least 6 members to participate in the tournament so hinata being one man show all those 3 years practicing by himself and was only able to play a match in a junior high since he made up of 3 first years and his two friends to fill in the spot. His two friends being from basketball and soccer teams, they were just helping him out since their own tournaments are finished

bebe

remember when they put the flag down, it means in, when they put the flag up, it's out.

bebe

PLEASE PAUSE MORE I LOVE IT WHEN REACTORS PAUSE TO TALK OR REPLAY SO THAT THEY DONT MISS STUFF. UGH

bebe

I thought the same, attack on Titan is so good

Daya Santamaria

I agree, yaaasss

Daya Santamaria

I agree

Daya Santamaria

Well, i have seen a lot of anime series but never this one, i mean i wanted to watch it and finally is the perfect time watch it with you guys. Also i love demon slayer, is one of the best shows i ever seen Love guys Saludos desde Ecuador 🇪🇨

Daya Santamaria

I feel like maybe one day after you finish Haiku!! you should give the anime Koruko no basket a try since it’s about basketball and since you have played before I feel like you would get invested to it

Aqeeb Shahbaz

welp can't wait for the youtube to finish premiering so here i am lol

bebe

Kagayama is the setter, the guy with black hair, Hinata, is orange hair spiker. They first went to two separate "middle" or jr high-schools, and once they both went to highschool, it ended up being the same one and they both have to try out for the Kurasuno Volleyball Team which is the same team Hinata saw on television at the beginning. And no, Kagayama was not the play Hinata saw on TV, it was another volleyball player who is the same height as Hinata which they famously named the "Little Giant", he also attended Kurasuno highschool, which made not only Hinta want to attend but also Kagayama for the schools previously held national titles.

jermani

Oh! Also, Demon Slayer was another of my top favorites. So I definitely would not mind that being watched in one of your upcoming reactions whether after Death Note or Haikyuu (or you can watch it now too 👀😂) but either way, I know you’ll get to all of our recommendations eventually. Appreciate you guys!

Charaety

Yeeeeeessss!!!! I had to stop my work and watch this immediately! In Hinata’s (Shoyo) junior high, they did not have a boys volleyball team. So that’s why you see him practicing with the girls volleyball team instead. I think Bibi did great answering the questions you had without providing any spoilers 👌🏽the anime will explain the game as it goes. Can’t wait to see episode 2! I’m all for you binging on this one 🤣 I love that you guys are relating it to your basketball journey. This anime brings back so many memories. Makes me want to go play volleyball again! 🏐🙋🏽‍♀️ I played setter all throughout school. My cousin and I played against each other our freshman year which fueled a lot of our competitiveness lol Then she ended up transferring to my school during our sophomore year and it made us even better. Fun fact: I read that after the anime was released, the number of students joining volleyball increased significantly in Japan! Now that it’s become popular, I wouldn’t doubt that that number increased around the rest of the world too.

Charaety

OMG Haikyuu!! I started this anime years ago, but never had the chance to finish it, though I always wanted to go back to it. It would be great to watch it with you guys. Btw after Death Note, I'd recommend you to watch "Code Geass", it has similar themes in terms of questioning your morality and not being sure on whos side to take (as Death Note). Also it has a lot of plot twists, and just like Light, the main character in Code Geass is extremely smart, and there are a lot sociological themes. So I think this anime would be right up your alley.

IfraH

The middle yellow number is the set number. Most volleyball games have 3 sets and to win the whole game a team must win 2 sets. To win a set you have to get to 25 points. Sometimes a set can go into a deuce (when both teams are tied at 24 points). If a deuce occurs, the only way to win the set is to be 2 points ahead (get 2 points in a row). You can use any part of your body to hit the volleyball (even your leg), you just can't hold/throw/catch/kick the volleyball. In a game, one single player is not allowed to touch the volleyball two times in a row. I won’t get into different positions because the anime will do that for you but in volleyball there are 6 players on the court playing. Feel free to pause or rewind if you need to understand certain dialogues. In the begining of the episode Shoyo (Hinata) saw a national game on TV where Karasuno (the high school he is attending now) was playing. He saw a player in Karasuno nicknamed "the little giant" and that's where he got inspiration to play volleyball and attend Karasuno. Both the "king" and Shoyo (Hinata) were in their last year of middle school when they played against each other. This anime is heartwarming and very relatable so feel free to relate 😂 Can’t wait for episode 2!!! Binging this show is worth it in my opinion! 💜

Bibi

Since this show is not as dense as death note I'd recommend y'all do two episodes at a time. Both for enjoyment and to get through the series at a reasonable pace. Considering it's 4 seasons and 2 movies to come out this year, that might be the way to go, but whatever y'all decide I'm down with.

Oscar OBG

I forgot how much I love this show!! I'm so pleased you all are watching it. Can't wait for episode 2!!!

Ellie_Luv

This show is pretty good at explaining things to new viewers given enough time, but just to clear up a few questions and misunderstandings you guys might've had in this first episode. The main character's name in Hinata Shoyo. Sho-chan is kind of like a nickname that his friend was calling him. You can just feel comfortable calling him and referring to him as Hinata going forward. The number that was in the middle of the team's scores on the scoreboard was the set number. Most matches played in this show have 3 sets, first to 25 points wins a set, and you have to win 2 sets in order to win the match. There are other rules involving this that will be explained later in the show, so I won't get into them here. As for the different volleyball positions such as setter and libero that were mentioned in this episode, it's not a big deal if you don't understand them right now or even know what they are. When I first watched this show, I had basically no understanding of any of the rules of volleyball, but like I said, this show does a fairly good job at explaining things for new viewers, so don't worry if you guys don't understand everything right off the bat.

DeadlyDarkDragon

Ahhhh I'm so excited but I can't watch until later 😭 I'm watching now and I'm late so I think everyone explained everything 😅

Let’s gooo!!

haikyuu? unexpected. I expected people to recommend Attack on Titan instead of a Sports Anime. The pronunciation is “Hi” (the greeting) + “Queue” or the Q sound. edit: Btw, it’s a really good Sports Anime but that VIP user was slightly overreacting about how deep Haikyuu actually is.
