Background work

This week has been a combination of drawing backgrounds and suffering sickness. Feeling better now and managed to get in all of the Junkyard locations.

The Junkyard has ended up being a place with a lot of mini stories and lore titbits. Much like many places in Blaston, the junkyard wasn't always a junkyard but just an open area near the rail lines. Due to its proximity to the checkpoint and industrial area, it ended up the place for trucks to drop off a lot of the scrap and whatever else that might be valuable. This resulted in a lot of menial labour jobs to form around it and a mini community developed.

Jaylee and Ashon run the place and live in the junkyard. Who wouldn't want to call a cargo container their home? Fortunately there are enough cargo containers to go around so you wont be fighting Ashon for bed space (or is that a bad thing? :) )

Another location of the Junkyard. Currently serves no purpose but I think I will eventually add the ability to walk along the overgrown train lines to get to other parts of town without the need to get the bus. Not entirely sold on the idea though because why wouldn't Sammy just walk the bus route?

You're right... But excessive realism in games is often overrated. Not that I'd mind some slightly darker events personally - but you'd end up having to make much of that content optional for those who don't have the stomach for it - especially if you get into the 'non-sexy violence' variety.

Personal experience: in 1st grade I missed the school bus, and while it snaked it's way through a few neighborhoods, I ran along the RR tracks to the crossing the bus passes before making a beeline for the school. It's last pick up was just before that crossing. Since it wasn't in a dystopian setting, a straight shot, and you could see and hear a train coming from miles away it was perfectly fine for me, but adults still had a fit if you entered the fenced area. Now, a defunct railway with abandoned cars on it in a dystopian setting? May be as the crow flies, but you're going to have to deal with a lot more than the occasional groper. Far worse too.

Maybe less people on the tracks, but the people you do see are more dangerous? maybe straighter lines, shorter walk, but out of the way, dangerous. under passes, between buildings, through tunnels, under ground.
