Lothburgh: Deaver's Apartment | 18x20

Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday! I'm excited to share the next map in the Lothburgh series, named Deaver's Apartment.

If you're new to the Lothburgh series, I have been collaborating with adventure publisher Lunch Break Heroes to create maps for this new setting. The Lothburgh setting is currently being developed, and I'm excited to see this hit Kickstarter in the future.

The setting takes place in the city it's named after and features a Gothic-Victorian style world where electricity is the new "magic", the skies are choked with soot billowing from factories, and corruption runs deep in even the most trusted factions. The streets are enforced by clockwork constables who struggle to see morality outside of their black & white programmed minds. To make matters worse, cases of unsolved missing persons, murders, and corruption go unsolved and unchallenged while the constabulary seems to ignore them.

This is where your party comes in: a new group of private investigators hoping to make a difference in this bleak and dreary city. As they solve various cases, helping the good and downtrodden folks of Lothburgh, eventually, they are hired by a well-to-do woman looking for her missing father in the soot-covered district of New Ashes. Your party quickly realized that your father is none other than Deaver Combweather, the leader of a group of vampire hunters named The Blades of Morning, who cleansed the city of a massive vampiric invasion 70 years ago.

As they arrive at Deaver's Apartment to search for him, they are greeted with traps and a bloody, broken mess. Something bad happened here, and judging by the massive hole dug into this top-floor apartment, something came from below...

The adventure, as written, features Deaver's Apartment that has been broken into from the empty apartment below it. This is a top-floor apartment in the run-down district of New Ashes. However, despite the surrounding dilapidated town, Deaver's Apartment is relatively nice. Living off of his former adventuring career and hero status, he's grown old piecing together mysteries and missing persons cases. Deaver is onto something, and he was taken for it!

I created the map in two styles. The first is per the adventure, which contains a large hole blown out from below, blood stains on the hallway floor from Deaver's traps, and his bedroom door kicked in, where he was taken. Deaver's special cane, a hidden rapier sheath that coats the blade in holy water when unsheathed, lies on the floor near the bed. His dining room table is a mess of books, maps, and unsolved cases as he tries to piece together a deep, dark secret.

I also created a "standard" version, removing the encounter-specific features to make this a more general-use apartment, should you want to use it in your own campaign setting.

The layout of the apartment features:

I hope you've enjoyed this unique map! The Lothburgh setting has given me a new challenge with mapping, and I've quite enjoyed building these scenes that are not your traditional fantasy-medieval style maps. In addition to running my own Lothburgh campaign once the book is finished, I would also love to create a Victorian-style Curse of Strahd game inspired by Robert Eggers Nosferatu.

I hope you enjoyed this week's release. I'm in talks with LBH to get a preview of the Deaver portion of the adventure, so you all have some context and can run it yourselves if you want to help playtest. It's a very cool setting, and I've been a player in it for quite a while now and have been thoroughly enjoying myself.

Speaking of collaborations, next week I have something fun for you all, a very special collaboration with map maker Eledryll. We are both creating our own dungeon maps that will connect on different levels (I'm doing the 1st floor, and Eledryll is doing the level below). So you'll get two huge dungeon maps in a single week!

Additionally, in the next day or so, I'm compiling a behind-the-scenes time-lapse vid of the entire mapping process of this map. You can see a (very sped up) version of how I build maps, from creating the 3d model to blueprinting and mapping it all out in Inkarnate. I'm very excited to share this with you all as it'll be the first time I've captured my entire process on vid from start to finish.

Thank you all for your continued support of my craft! Your support is SO appreciated and allows me to keep the lights on and keep on creating.

Cheers friends,

DM Andy

Oh 100% Blades in the Dark / BioShock mood to it. Also reminds me a bit of the Arcane show as well. I've been playing as a player in the campaign with LBH for a little over a year now and we have had a blast! I'm playing one of the new rogue sub-classes called "Battlefield Surgeon" so in addition to being handy with a blade, I can also patch up my friends in the heat of battle. I think the main adventure flows really well and the city gives so much to explore, it should be a really solid book. I realize I'm biased here since I'm making the map, but just speaking as a player, I've had a ton of fun with it. Can't wait to DM it with my own group!

Great map. Also, going to watch this Kickstarter with interest. Love the idea for the setting. Gives a little bit of a steampunk Blades in the Dark/BioShock. Which is totally a vibe I would get into and enjoy running.
