Lothburgh: The Rookery

Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I am launching the 7th map in my Lothburgh series: The Rookery.

The Rookery is a single room atop a large stone tower overlooking the dangerous and run-down "Nail Street" in the borough of Whistwick. This map is designed as a boss encounter map where your party takes the fight to a local crime lord who is pushing the dangerous drug "velvet bliss" to the streets. To make matters worse, this crime lord has repurposed one of the clockwork constables (magic and gear-powered robotic policemen) to do their bidding and eliminate all of the opposition. The good folk of Nail Street are now at the whims of this crime lord and end up working for the organization if they want to survive, since the city and the constabulary have given up on Nail Street. That is... until your party gets there!

If you're new to the Lothburgh series, this is a new campaign setting being designed from the ground up by my good friend over at Lunch Break Heroes. You can learn more about the campaign setting and its development on YouTube here.

Fun fact, in addition to making the maps for this incredible setting, I've been playing in LBH's home game for a while now, play testing all of the new adventures that are being created, and having a total blast! In the video, Steve talks about an encounter at The Rookery (This map) at 5:30, and I was in that party (Though I was not the cool Hex Slinger, one of the new gun slinging Warlock Sub Classes), but I'll never forget how fun that fight was!

The Rookery is a tall stone tower that overlooks Nail Street in Whistwhick and is currently being used as a type of safe house / tenement building for those to lay low from the local authorities. This map features the top of the Rookery, where Velvet Bliss is created and distributed to criminals to push onto the streets. Here, the crime boss of this faction creates the nefarious drug and rules with an iron fist. In the adventure, they had even taken a Clockwork Constable and re-wired it to do their bidding. It's described as them painting it black, so I added a small section where the constable could be standing while thugs are re-painting it. Additionally, I created a small engineering workbench with gears, blueprints, and (of course) goggles to give it that "steampunk" feel.

The other side of the room features large vats of chemicals, a furnace with a steam generator to keep the liquid in the vats churning, a workbench and alchemy station, and, of course, a table in the center where the Velvet Bliss is packaged up into cases for distribution onto the streets.

Additionally, I added a few explosive barrels of chemicals just to add that element of danger once the spells start flying!

A small stairwell leads to a lower portion where the one and only door is. If your party manages to sneak in, this could be a place to lay low and set their ambush!

No matter the campaign setting you're playing in, The Rookery could be a great boss fight room for a den of thieves, bandits, or any other criminal organization that your heroes need to stop!

This will be my last map for November as I take a little bit of time off to spend with family this Thanksgiving.

Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or just enjoy some awesome time with friends and family, I wish you all a wonderful weekend and hope you get in some good gaming sessions! I know my group will be playing this Sunday, and I cannot wait to DM for them.

I am so grateful for all of you who continue to support my craft. Even if it's just an upvote or comment, your kind words and use of my work in your own games mean so much to me. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Cheers friends,

DM Andy
