Wachterhaus v2.0 - Interior | 30x20

Update Oct 28th, 2025: Hey Everyone! My good friend over at Caleb is Drawing has generously created a portrait of the late Lord Nikolai Wachter for me to use with my Wachterhaus map. I've already used his portraits of Lady Fiona Wachter and Stella Wachter, and now both Lord and Lady of the Wachterhaus are properly represented with this updated portrait!

I've updated the .zip files to contain these updated interior maps with the new portraits, but if you're looking for this stellar artwork to use as a handout, head on over to Caleb's page, where he'll be posting this up soon (as well as tons of other incredible NPC portraits & handouts he's done).

Additionally, we'll be working on updating the Foundry module to include these new updates as well as including the "Reloaded" version with the Levels version. Stay tuned for that soon!

Hello everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I am launching part II of the Wachterhaus (The Interior). In case you missed it, you can find Part I (Exterior) here.

Additionally, this release also covers the changes outlined in DragnaCarta's CoS: Reloaded guide, found here, as well as the standard book version.

Also, I want to give a special shoutout to "Caleb is Drawing" for allowing me to use his amazing artwork for the portraits featured around the house. You can follow his Patreon here, where you will find some incredible NPC artwork (with a focus on CoS NPCs).

This map features three levels:

1st Floor

I kept the layout mostly the same as outlined in the module, but I wanted the manor to feel old and opulent, despite its exterior being sagging and overgrown. I used purple as the core color scheme throughout the house for the wallpaper and upholstery.

I also added a latrine near the dining room above the secret staircase (Finally, the Wachterhaus family can use the bathroom!)

2nd Floor

For the 2nd floor, the most notable changes I made are that I added another latrine to the top of the stairs, as well as a bathroom to the south. I moved the supply closet to be connected with the bathroom as I felt this better used the space, and the layout flowed much better. This gives the family a private latrine/bathroom as well as a guest latrine below (there are outhouses outside for the staff).

Additionally, I decided to omit the dead body in Fiona's room. I know there are a good number of DMs who move, remove, or otherwise make changes to the dead body, so I figured if you wanted to add this, you could use a token to represent Fiona's husband.

Lastly, the "Reloaded" version makes changes to Stella's room from the version outlined in the module to a re-done version of the room as detailed in the Reloaded guide.

Cellar

I made the cellar in three different versions. The "Reloaded" version removes the beds and makes the cellar feel more like a storage space. In the hidden room, there is writing on the wall as outlined in the Reloaded guide.

I also made an empty version since I know a lot of DMs make changes to the cellar layout and add different things. This way, you can use your own array of VTT assets to make it how you see fit.

I'm pleased to announce that not only will this work with Foundry v13, but it will also include a "Levels" option via the compendium!

Phew! Manor maps always take a good chunk of time, but I do LOVE building them. Adding all the little details and getting to look at all sorts of historical homes as ref images excites me so much! I really hope you have enjoyed my version of the Wachterhaus and even if you're not using it for CoS, it makes for a great Gothic Manor map.

Next up, I'll be presenting something a little new: an opulent bathhouse within the city of Lothburgh! After this, I'll be working on some extra spooky maps as we lead into the best month of the year (October!).

Thank you all for your continued support.

Cheers friends,

DM Andy

Comments

This is available on Foundry with two versions, standard and Reloaded variants. Also, if you have levels installed, there is a compatible option to install that via the compendium. This one is installed via the manifest URL though instead of through Foundry Premium. Due to some IP restrictions I can’t put it on Premium. You can find the manifest URL on the Foundry post for this map (link is in the map hub page or via the Foundry Collection page). Hope that helps!

Hiya! So I love all your maps and have been liberally using them in my Foundry CoS game. Question about the Wachterhaus 2.0 ones though: I see the note here saying “I'm pleased to announce that not only will this work with Foundry v13, but it will also include a "Levels" option via the compendium!” These are not yet a Foundry module yet though, am I right? Or am I missing it? Or am I misunderstanding the note? Thanks!

Dude that is spot on! Not to mention very well timed (the Chosen may well be heading back to it ^^)

Dungeon of Terra

Thank you Pyram!! I've really enjoyed re-visiting these older locations with updated map assets. Next for Vallaki I'll be tackling the Arasek Stockyard and the Town Square!

Andy D'Amato

That is amazing. I look forward to updating in the future release. You continue to impress.

Pyram King

For what its worth, it also felt like to me that Blue Water was half as big as it should, but Burgomaster's Manor in Vallaki seemed the right size. But maybe im wrong. again, just wanted to see if the sizes you had was correct after all or if it was an error

i have been using your maps as part of the Pyram King module, and have been updating to your new maps as you release them. For Wachterhaus it looks amazing, but I will say that it seems that all the map rooms are too small in your foundry module. idk if its just how the map is set up in your foundry module or if its some setting for how I import them, but all the rooms are just much smaller. for instance, in the den on the ground floor in the old map in PK's module it is 6 squares from north to south, while when i use your new module it is only 3 squares wide. it just makes everything feel so cramped. Right now the grid size is set to 273 so i just changed them to 136 and it seems to be ok, but i didnt know if this was an oversight or intended on your part so i thought i would post it. maybe all the rooms are supposed to be that small and i just didnt know

Thank you SO very much!! And yeah, I've always found that super weird. On one hand, I know a lot of us DMs "hand wave" going to the bathroom when it comes to RP with our players which... I get. But I've always found it weird that some maps include bathrooms and washrooms while others don't. For instance, I think in Barovia of the official maps only two have bathrooms (The Baron's Mansion & Wizard of Wines). Take the Wachterhaus here, for instance. With 4 staff, 3 kids and Fiona, you have 8 people living in that house! Then add on various dinners and "book club" guests and you're going to have a lot of folks that need to use the facilities. I also found it odd there was no washroom in a manor. Where does Fiona wash herself? Surely she's not going to a public washroom... Either way, I'm glad you'll be able to upgrade the map for your players!

Andy D'Amato

One of my absolute favorite details about your maps is that you always add latrines, lol. It's something that is noticeably absent in a lot of other maps, including official ones. Where do all these fantasy people go to the bathroom!? Anyway, this thing turned out incredible. I immediately went and updated my CoS campaign folder with them, replacing the old Wachterhaus you did. It's going to be such a treat bringing my players back here.

Bo Bradshaw

Hey Mark! The UI toggle works for the non-Levels version to switch to the Reloaded variant, but not quite for the Levels version yet. There are some complexities in the variant switching and Levels we are working through. If we can get the variant switch working with Levels I will for sure update the module / manifest URL and let everyone know.

Andy D'Amato

This looks amazing Andy. I love the transparency feature. One question though. The Foundry import is the standard version of the second floor. How would I go about changing it to the Reloaded version? Same with the cellar too.

Mark Wignall

Really appreciate your kind words and thank you so much!!! I LOVED working on this map and gothic manors in general so this was a real treat. Makes up for the amount of time I sunk into it haha :)

Andy D'Amato

well, you've outdone yourself; amazing work!

Yes! We call it Libra season in our home (both my wife and I are Libras), and Oct is also our wedding anniversary. But aside from that, I just love the Fall weather (Though it is still fairly hot here in Cali, but not AS hot as the summer) and love seeing all the stores put out their Halloween decor. I'm so glad this map could hit that Oct vibe for you!! :)

Andy D'Amato

best map for best month indeed 🎃😍 edit: lol this map gave me such October vibes that it straight teleported me one month into the future. I swear, for a moment I thought it was October.
