Hello everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I am excited to bring you the next installment in my re-work of the Vallaki maps for Curse of Strahd. This is part I of the Wachterhaus (The Exterior), with part II (Interior) coming next week.

For this rework, I wanted to re-imagine the grounds a bit more than the original map while still keeping with the overgrown and unkempt current state of this old home.
For the trellis archways, I created a version with and without the tops so they don't impede token space. For my VTT crowd, I also created the house as well as the trellis tops, should you want to use these layers with your own VTT. Additionally, we'll be including a Levels version of the Foundry module once the interior is released, as well as a non-Levels version, which will incorporate these layers.
Starting with the old and rusted iron gates, a pair of gargoyles perched on the ivy-covered walls stare, unmoving and ever-watchful at your party as the gate groans and creaks open.

Instead of an overgrown patch of crops (Which I always felt out of place) I added an overgrown garden inspired by the Haunted Mansion attraction. Moss-covered statues and markers indicating pet burials loom over the overgrown thorns, ivy, and weeds. Dark purple roses grow in from twisting vines that cling to trellises that shape the yard.

Around the back are the staff outhouses as well as a small storage shed leading to the other side of the manor, which features a circular rose garden with stone benches. Great for private conversations (or veiled threats)!

For the house, you'll find the old manor covered in vines with glowing windows indicating warm light from within. A gothic window overlooks the entryway, which sits upon a dead leaf-covered stone porch.

I hope you like my version of the Wachterhaus! I will have the interior ready by next week, which will include the 1st & 2nd floor as well as the basement (With a CoS: Reloaded version as well).
Cheers friends,
DM Andy
