Hello everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I have something special for you. I have created another parchment city map, and this time, I've mapped out the full town of Vallaki in great detail.
This is my 2nd city parchment map, with the 1st being the Village of Barovia, and I also plan to do Krezk as well. I might also do a parchment-style map for the swamps of Berez {maybe a brave cartographer hired a group of adventurers to help them map out the wild and murky swamps?)
Even though this is a deviation from my traditional battlemaps, I think these parchment maps really add a great player handout opportunity or even act as a backdrop when you are in between location scenes.

I have taken great care to handplace each asset on this map with purpose. I wanted each specific location to also closely match the battlemaps that I have done (and will do) so there is some similarity between the parchment map location and the battlemap.
You'll notice the double pallisade walls that match my City Gates map on the exterior, the gated Baron's Manor, the larger scale Church of St. Andral, amongst many other details.
Additionally, I wanted the city to feel more built up as you get to the center of it so the area near and around the Town Square feels more cramped and taller than the areas near the outer gates.
I did add some small farming outside of the village to grow what little can be produced given the lack of true sunlight, but most of these farms are fallow, relying instead on livestock for meat.
I kept the focus of the map closely centered on the town itself without much extra padding on either side as I didn't want to shrink down the details by even a few pixels. My goal was to create a hand-drawn style feel to this map while also being able to focus on the tiny added extras like crates, carts, rocks and bushes to give it that extra amount of detail.
This time, I also added name plates for the location and I've divided this into three different approaches:
Core Locations only (The location specified in the module)
Core Locations with added locations by popular content creators. I've added locations added by Lunch Break Heroes, Pyram King, MandyMod, and even some of my own locations like Larnak Publications (Which is the secret entrance to the Sanguine Rose Brothel) as well as the Slums of Vallaki.
No Location Markers at all
As for the map style, I created this map in both light and dark as well as a version with map folds and burned edges (and of course one without those effects) for plenty of variety (based on your tier).
Thank you for your continued support, and I can't wait to show you what is next for June! I have another Saltmarsh location I'll be finishing up, an outdoors/nature map, and one of the next locations for the Lothburg setting. It's going to be a grand month, and I have a ton of very exciting map projects lined up in the future as well.
Additionally, we should see more Foundry modules flowing in the month from my library, so those in the Champion / Foundry tiers can look forward to seeing those released soon.
