Hello everyone, and happy New Release Monday!
Today, I’m excited to share something a little different from my usual battlemaps — a parchment-style map of the Village of Barovia!
I've been toying with this idea ever since I created my world map of Barovia in a similar parchment style. But for this closer look at the village, I knew I wanted something more detailed than the simple icons used in the world map. I’ve always loved the intricacy of the book’s village map, and I wanted to honor that level of detail.
Instead of a flat or abstract layout, I chose an isometric approach — something that captures the feeling of a cartographer perched on a hilltop, sketching the village from a high vantage point. It brings out the structure and shape of Barovia in a way that feels both practical and atmospheric.
This map is designed to work as a player handout — something you can drop into your game to help guide your party through the mist-shrouded streets of Barovia.
I hope you enjoy this take on the Village of Barovia! I’m planning to continue this style with parchment maps of Krezk and Vallaki, and I may even revisit my Saltmarsh parchment map to bring it in line with this new look.
I hope you enjoy it!
I’ve created this map in three distinct styles to suit different tastes and presentation needs:
Burned Edges
Torn Edges with Map Folds
No Effects
Each of these styles comes in two color variants — a light and dark version — so you can choose the one that best fits your game’s atmosphere.
Additionally, I’ve included versions without map icons, such as the compass rose, nameplate, and distance marker. This gives you even more flexibility depending on how you’d like to present the map to your players.
If you’re aligning the map with the official book’s scale and using the 8k maps, set your grid to 408 PPI, which will size it at 15x20 squares, with each square representing 20 feet (as per the module’s standard).
If you’d rather use 5-foot squares, set the PPI to 102, which will grid the map at 60x80 squares.
The included printable PDFs are designed for the 15x20 grid — making them more manageable for home printing without requiring too many pages.
However, if you’d like a printable PDF version of the 60x80 grid, feel free to reach out! Just keep in mind that it would print at a large size of roughly 68 by 88 inches (including the border).
With this release, my Grand Library patrons will receive the following:
3 Map Styles including Burned Edges, Torn Edges w/ Map Folds, and No Effects
Light & Dark Styles
With and Without Map Icons
8k & 4k Resolution
Grid & NoGrid
Jpgs & Webp File Types
Printable PDFs
Next up this month, I'll be tackling the next set of maps for my Winter's Grasp Series, where I blanket the entire set of my dark fantasy maps in frost and snow. These are more than just a color filter update, I re-work the entire map with new textures and effects so you can run a snowy horror game. The next two maps will be the VoB Town Square and Eastern Barricades so that the entire VoB will have Winter's Grasp maps available.
Later this month, I'll be working on my V2.0 of the Church of St. Andral from Vallaki, which will be by far one of the most detailed church / graveyard maps I've ever done!
Thank you ALL for your continued support of my work; without you, I would not be able to make this happen!
Cheers,
DM Andy
