Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I am releasing part II of the Baron's Manor, featuring the interior levels, including floors 1 & 2, as well as the attic.
Behind the heavy doors of Vallaki’s most opulent home lies a world of rigid order, veiled paranoia, and quiet oppression. The grand halls of the Baron’s Manor reflect his desperate grip on control—ornate yet cold, adorned with lavish furnishings that fail to mask the tension that lingers in the air. From the dining hall, where forced hospitality reigns, to the dimly lit chambers where secrets fester, this battlemap brings the heart of Vallaki’s rule to life.
Like the exterior map, I changed the orientation to a portrait style so the maps flows from bottom to top. Additionally, I made a few minor layout changes which I felt better represented the map as well as some functional aspects. These changes include:
Extended the width of the dining room and preparation room by one square. This is especially handy in the dining room, as it allows you to place the Baron's token directly on a square without splitting it between two squares, like the map in the book.
Added a downstairs bathroom with an entrance by the main hall. It felt strange that the only bathroom in the house was the one that was connected to the Baron's room, and he did not seem like to type to share (especially with Izek! Gross!)
Extended the width of the servant's quarters as well as added individual rooms for each of the four servants. It just felt "off" to me to have one large open space with a bed in each corner and I thought this would be more befitting the mansion. Additionally, you can hide little clues here if the party wants to investigate the disappearance of the staff.
Added a large bay window in the parlor to add to the grandiose feel of the room. Additionally, this helped break up the flat and somewhat boring building exterior facade and give a little dimension to the home.
And though not a layout change, I decided not to include the bundles of twigs scattered around. I hope this is not too immersion-breaking, but A) it felt odd to me that a manor like this would have piles of dirty wood lying around, and B) not everyone's game is locked into this particular festival happening at the moment, so it makes it more versatile in how it can be used. Instead, you could just tell your players the bundles of twigs are being housed on the right side of the yard under the little eve where the firewood is kept.
The second floor is largely as described in the book; however, I did not include any blood or shackles in the closet. Visual elements like this on a map "give away" certain things that I know a lot of DMs want to keep as a surprise or at least allow the players to find clues by way of a roll rather than a visual indicator on the map, so this closet is just kept pretty bare.
Lastly, for on the attic level,, I included a few design choices for Victor's room, primarily the large portrait of his parents, which he uses as target practice!

The talented Caleb is Drawing created and used this incredible art with permission. You can find his awesome CoS NPC artwork on his Patreon page here.
This troubled teen is practicing dangerous magic without proper guidance or education, so all arcane study is shown in his attic room. He uses blankets from the attic to cover up the more incriminating evidence, such as the portrait or signals / notes he has pinned to the wall in the unlikely event his parents come snooping around.

This marks the last release for Feb and I'm excited for the upcoming months as there will be some new features you'll be able to enjoy as a Champion Tier member. Make sure you check out this vid, which goes over the Patreon billing changes that are happening in detail, and I also talk a bit about the future state as well. You'll have until the end of the month to make any changes to the amount you want to contribute to my page before you're locked into that rate once the new tiers drop.
Additionally, I'll be taking the first week off from mapping, as March is a five-Monday month. However, I'll be back on March 10th with an exciting new collaboration on a gothic / Victorian setting for which I was brought on to make maps. And, of course, I am working on maps for my other projects, such as Saltmarsh, CoS: Reloaded, Winter's Grasp, and my CoS 2.0 maps). I have a busy year planned ahead of me!
Lastly, I hope to have some Foundry VTT modules ready to distribute to you all in March, and I'll be collecting feedback
I'll catch up with you all next week for my end-of-the-month recap post. Thank you for your continued support of my craft.
Cheers!
