Big Update (Please watch/read): Switching to Monthly Billing
Added 2025-02-01 20:13:59 +0000 UTC
Update: March 1st
Hey everyone! Just wanted to ping you all one more time just to make sure this was seen. I want to give everyone a chance to lock in their monthly rate as tomorrow my account will be converted over to monthly billing.
Tl;dr
Patreon is doing away with "per creation" billing and only "monthly" billing will be available
I will have three monthly billing tiers and the "Champion Tier" will be sunset, meaning no one can join it, but it will still be active for those currently in it (unless you leave the tier).
If you've set a monthly spend limit in the number of post you want to support, this number will be honored going forward (Even though the Champion Tier will be listed at $12 USD / month)
For instance 1 creation max = $3 / month, 2 creations max = $6 / month and so on
Anyone who sets their monthly limit today will be honored going forward as long as you stay in the Champion tier and don't leave it since it will be a sunset tier not available to sign up in.
I will be including all of the VTT modules in the current Champion tier as a "thank you" for those who have supported me along this five-year journey!
If you are happy with your per creation limit and currently in the Champion Tier, you don't need to do anything! Just stay there and enjoy, you'll get everything I have to offer :)
Update: Feb 13th
This is just a friendly reminder that you have until the end of the month to set your monthly limit if you choose. You will be locked into that rate once the Champion tier converts to monthly. Champion will be a legacy tier moving forward, so new patrons won't be able to join it, but you can stay in it as long as you want.
Hey everyone,
I have an important update about my Patreon page. In about 30 days, I'll be switching from a 'per-creation' model to 'monthly billing.' I want to explain why this is happening, what it means for you, and how I’m honoring your current price.
Why is this change happening?
Patreon is sunsetting the "per creation model," which I am currently a part of and has given me until the end of the year to make this switch, but I’m moving forward now because of two reasons:
VTT Integration Launch:
I’m finalizing a contract to provide premium content for Foundry VTT, which will include plug-and-play game-ready modules.
However, Patreon’s per-creation model blocks me from creating new tiers. To launch the VTT tier, I need to switch to monthly billing.
Simplifying Patron Experience:
I’ve been receiving lots of messages about how confusing the current billing system is. With per-creation billing, patrons are charged for each map I release, with limits and how billing works; it causes a lot of confusion and unmet expectations.
Monthly billing will make things much simpler!
What’s Changing?
No change in price for current patrons!
If you’re in the Champion tier, your price will stay exactly the same.
Supporting 1 creation? You’ll pay $3/month.
Supporting 2 creations? You’ll pay $6/month.
Supporting all 4 creations or no limit at all? You’ll pay $12/month—just like today.
Legacy Champion Tier:
The Champion tier will be sunset, meaning no new members can join.
You’ll keep full access to all new maps and my entire map catalog.
If you leave this tier, you won’t be able to rejoin.
Special Thank You Bonus:
As a thank you for your support, I’m adding free access to all VTT modules to the Champion tier and will introduce printable PDFs over the next few months.
You won’t need to join the new VTT tier when it launches. However, if you leave, you’ll have to join one of the new tiers to regain access.
How Billing Will Work
Current Model:
$3 per map, up to 4 maps per month ($12 max).
Billed on the 1st of the following month.
Limits and mid-month billing, if you cancel your sub, can be confusing for patrons.
New Model:
You’ll pay a flat amount ($3, $6, or $12) on your billing date while in the Legacy Champion Tier. Otherwise, if you join after the launch or leave and come back, you'll pay a flat amount based on whichever tier you select.
You’ll still get full access to 4 new maps each month and over 200 maps from my back catalog.
What You Can Do
Adjust your limit: Set your preferred monthly amount in your Patreon settings.
To do this, click on "Membership" from my page, and under "Champion Tier," click the pencil icon. Then click "Edit" next to the price per creation. A new screen should open, and on the left, you should see a check box titled "set monthly limit." From there, just enter a number from 1 to 3 (1 = $3.00, 2 = $6.00, etc.).
Stay in the Champion tier: Remember, if you leave, you can’t rejoin.
I really hope this change does not negatively impact your experience. After talking with other creators who have made the switch, it seems pretty seamless, so I'm hoping the same will happen here!
Thank you again for your amazing support! If you have any questions for me, go and leave a comment or DM me, and I'll do my best to get them answered in a timely manner.
I am so thankful for your continued support and for helping me to make my dreams come true, making battlemaps for a living. I am honored by your faith and trust in me to continue to deliver detailed and compelling maps that help to enhance your game experience!
Cheers,
DM Andy

The current "per creation" model is billed out monthly on the 1st each month so yesterday's charges would have been for the four maps in Feb (up to any limit that you might have set). That's where it gets confusing is even though it's a "per creation" model, you only get billed monthly or if you cancel mid month. The nice thing I don't think you'll notice much, if any change once it converts over tomorrow. You'll still get billed on the 1st each month for either $12.00 if you stay in the champion tier or up to any limit you have set. So if you set your monthly limit to say 3 creations today, the monthly charge would only be $9.00 going forward as long as you stay in the Champion Tier. I hope that makes sense and I didn't just make it sound more complicated haha. In short, you're covered for the month of March already and the next billing cycle will hit on April 1st for you.

2025-03-02 21:09:28 +0000 UTCGreat question! The short answer is both. I will be prioritizing new releases, which will get released to the VTT Tier and the Champion Tier (Champion Tier will get everything so no need to join the VTT Tier once it launches). Once the newest map is done and as time permits, I'll be updating most of my maps from my back catalog in between new releases. It might take a while to get it all updated but eventually it'll be done.

2025-02-10 22:26:37 +0000 UTCThat's super exciting. Are you planning on slowly working on adding the whole backlog as time goes on? Or mostly focusing on the newer releases?

2025-02-10 21:02:05 +0000 UTCSo glad to hear you're excited!! I'm still in the process of getting set up on the Foundry Premium system but hoping to be on that platform by the end of the month. I'm already working with the developer I contracted to start work so I'm hoping to get it going in either March or April at the latest. Once I get the first few modules set up, I'll release them to the Champion Tier and ask for everyone's feedback as well so you'll know when I'm getting closer to having it ready to deploy. I can't wait either!

2025-02-10 18:26:19 +0000 UTCOh man this is great. When do you think we can expect to start seeing json files for Foundry integration with the maps? I've been hoping for this for a while! Super excited! Thank you so much for allowing us to keep our tier.

2025-02-05 00:36:37 +0000 UTCYou are a legend for grandfathering in the champion tier at the current price. Total steal for the content coming up!

2025-02-03 23:25:50 +0000 UTCHey Fabian! Glad to hear you're excited about the VTT integration. I can't wait to get that off the ground myself as it'll give a lot of time back to you for your prep :) And yes! So long as you're an active Champion Tier member once it converts to monthly billing, whatever rate you indicated will be the rate that will be locked into as long as you stay within that Champion Tier. And all Champion tier members will continue to get access to everything I post today, as well as the new stuff I'll be putting out like the VTT modules and printable PDFs. Thank you SO much for your support!

2025-02-03 05:48:00 +0000 UTCGreat news to hear about the foundry integration, I wanted to dip my toes in that space and now knowing I can do so with your maps makes it all the more comfortable! Question, if I adjust my pricing to a flat 10 dollars will I still grandfathered in and allowed all art and perks as it comes in?
Fabian
2025-02-03 01:22:37 +0000 UTCFantastic! I use your maps on Foundry all the time so this is really exciting.
Josh
2025-02-02 05:15:26 +0000 UTCAll good! There is a lot of information to unpack, but yes! As a thank you for everyone, I'm including all VTT integrations once it is ready to the Champion tier at no extra cost. The new VTT tier will only be for new patrons going forward after my page converts to monthly billing. So in short, you're good to go!

2025-02-02 05:14:24 +0000 UTCThanks for the update, Andy! And that VTT tier sounds super exciting - maybe I misread, but will the VTT intergration be available to Champion tier members? EDIT: I watched the video and got my answer! I should double check before I post, hah.

2025-02-02 05:07:51 +0000 UTCThank you so much Jason! It’s so important to me that my maps remain as accessible as possible to the community, even with this switch. And of course I’m so thankful for the community who gave me a chance to live my dream by making maps!

2025-02-02 01:46:51 +0000 UTCHey Andy. Thanks for all the great content and for grandfathering us supporters who are already on the Champion Tier. I hope Patreon appreciates what creators like you are doing for their business and are scaling the fees they charge you in a favorable way to you. Looking forward to what's coming out this year!
