Sneak Peek - City Docks

Hey everyone and happy Sneak Peek Thursday! We've had both a spooky and chilly month so far with the Burgomaster's Manor and the new set of Winter's Grasp maps. Now, I am pivoting over to that golden coast of Saltmarsh to create a "City Docks" map. As a DM, I'm almost always in need of docks for all sorts of encounters, from sea creatures attacking to pirates fighting on the streets to my players making a daring escape on the waterways after being pursued by a much stronger foe.

This map will  feature a section of the docks, a bit of sandy coast, and some city streets so you'll have plenty of room to run whatever encounter type you might dream up!

I will have the final release done and ready by Monday.

Cheers,

DM Andy

I love Dragon Heist!! I just got done playing in a DH campaign and had so much fun. A lot of the maps I'm doing for Saltmarsh could easily be used in Dragon Heist I think. Also, once I start doing Vallaki, it'll have that larger city vibe too so those "Sunny Day" maps would be good for around the city. Eventually I'll be hitting the other campaigns once I have some open maps slots like Rime of the Frost Maiden, Dragon Heist, ToA, Lost Mines, Keys to the Golden Vault.. they whole run. I might be 90 years old when I get them all done but at least I'll have a goal haha.

Love it! I saw this and thought you were going to be getting into some Dragon Heist maps haha - one of my favourite campaigns! Perhaps in the future 😏

Thanks so much! To answer your question, I 100% agree with you in that the original CoS locations from the book are waaaay too small for my taste. Using the map size in VTT makes it so when you have a room full of tokens (Players and NPCs) you can't even see the map any more which is a total bummer. I don't really have a good solution for you other than the double the size of the original grid which might make the building propositions seem "too" big for the map, but at least you can fit in more tokens and still see the map. To answer your second question, I've already taken the size issue into consideration and I think you'll be happy with my re-works of the older maps. I already made Death House about one square bigger on both sides as I felt that was too cramped, and my Old Bonegrinder re-work in Oct will be almost twice as big as the one from the book. I'll also be increasing the sizes for many of the Vallaki locations as well as I felt they are all too small (like the Burgomaster's Manor which is no bigger than a standard house!). So in short, yes, I'll be making the locations a little bigger to make placing tokens a little easier.

Looks amazing! Another silly question: my players just arrived in Vallaki and are going to hit the blue water inn next session. I was just setting up the map and I realized that the proportions on it (like, in the original module, not your fault) are TINY. like a player token is as wide as two and a half chairs. Do you have any recommendations for... I dunno. How to run this so it's not so weird and cramped? (or, if you do a remake, do you have any plans on slightly restructuring it so it fits with tokens a bit better?)

Love it!
