Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I'm SUPER excited to share with you an update for a map that I created over 3 years ago: The Church & Graveyard of the Village of Barovia!
It was really fun to revisit this map and showcase a number of the new assets I've commissioned to use with my maps, including the beautifully drawn gravestone assets.
Also, I created a really fun trailer for this map and featured the incredible music of RPG Music Maker Travis Savoie which you can find here.
I did make this map a little smaller than my previous church map and chose not to feature the entire graveyard. I had two reasons for this:
I wanted the map to be a smaller scale to focus more on the church details (the larger the grid size, the more detail loss I get in the very tiny details I like to add)
I like the idea of the graveyard going "off-screen," which allows the DM to control how big they want to describe the graveyard to their players.
For the graveyard portion of the map, I wanted it to feel old and overcrowded (as the book mentions) so you'll find lots of gravestones stacked on top of each other, as well as some above-ground sarcophagi. I've also included two crypt entrances (which work great for dungeon entrances as well!).
The most notable change here is I've added some extra goodies to the Undercroft map. You'll find not only the stacked buried coffins (not really needed for a map but a fun detail to add non-the-less) but a small tunnel leading to one of the crypt entrances. In my own personal game, I had Doru dig himself out of the Undercroft driven mad by hunger and finding his way into one of the crypts.
I also copied the same entrance as my previous Catacombs of Forgotten Kings map in case you wanted to add your own dungeon crawl under the graveyard! You can find that map here.
Lastly, I've included a "restored" version of the church so you have both the options of the current state and a state where the church of Barovia has been restored to its former glory (at least the interior!)
With this map release, you'll get the following:
Exterior, Interior, Interior Restored, & Undercroft maps
6 Color moods: Gloom, Dark Fairytale, Ghostly, Night, Sunny Day, & Warm
4k & 8k resolution
Weather effects including rain, fog, and sun rays
Grid & NoGrid version
No Lights Version for each color mood
Jpg & Webp file types
VTT Sizing Guide
I'm off to a good start this month with the release of the Church as I continue to rework the Village of Barovia in my CoS 2.0 project.
Next, I'll be working on a Svalich Road map. I know these maps are not necessarily the most exciting to see, but their utility in the game is vast! I'll be creating a few versions, including a campsite, a grave (one of the random encounters from the book), and even a Tiny Hut version, as well as a version without any of those features. It should be a pretty versatile forest road map.
On the Saltmarsh front, I'll be tracking the Sharkfin bridge, which I feel will be a pretty massive project. I will probably release this one in phases, as the exterior and interior will both take me a few weeks to create. I also want to do a version of "Under the Bridge," where shady smuggling deals go down! For starters, I plan on creating the standard exterior map first, and then I'll work on the other versions after that in the coming weeks.
As always, THANK YOU for your continued support of my mapping efforts!!
Cheers,
DM Andy
