Hello everyone, and happy New Release Monday! I'm excited to have finished the exterior version of the Gothic Village (inspired by the Village of Barovia). This 40x60 map features over 30 homes in various states; some lived in, others abandoned and boarded up. For now, this is just the exterior version, but I do have plans to create interior locations for each of the homes here.
Additionally, I created a version with and without Death House in the center of the map as well for those who would like to run this encounter inside the city.

I created this map using a 40x60 grid as I wanted to capture as much of the winding road as possible. I felt the various paths and streets would make for some great encounters, with the houses blocking the line of sight.
As your players walk down the soaking-wet streets, they will notice flickering candlelight in some windows while other homes sit basked in the perpetual darkness. Abandoned and boarded up, the villagers know better than to investigate the horrible scratching noise coming from the home next door. While these streets were once cobblestone thoroughfares, the mud caked onto these roads from constant rain has all but diminished its former beauty. Now, all that is left are cold, damp, and depressed homes sitting crooked on their foundations.
Currently, this map is exterior only, but I do have plans to go back and update this for fully flushed-out interior locations. Additionally, I created two core versions of this map, one with and one without Death House in the center of the map, so you can run this encounter inside the village should you choose.
I also added a small pie cart in the upper left of the map as a nod to our (not so friendly) resident old granny who sells her delicious meat pies to the townsfolk. When I ran "granny" for my players, I put her behind the cart with a line of villagers as I felt this was a lot less obvious than her going door to door, stuffing children into sacks. I also added a small well and a few corpses that are being burnt on a pyre just outside an abandoned building to the bottom right. This well is a nod to the Lunch Break Hereos quest I created the well encounter map for this month. These corpses being burned could be the villagers getting rid of some zombies that had brokered free, Strahd's victims, or even a fellow adventuring party that came through and failed. Nothing more ominous for your players to witness, right?
For my Champion Tier patrons, you will receive the following with this map release:

As I reflect on the end of the month and usher in December, let's take a quick recap of this month's activities:
I was thankful I had some time off this month from my day job as I needed those extra hours to pivot to map work, but I feel accomplished this month and excited for my next batch of maps for Dec.
Next up, I'll be updating a few of my older maps with new color moods, weather, and lighting. I'll be posting up the Desecrated Chapel and Swamp Town maps I've updated from older Lunch Break Heroes adventures. I'll also be working on the next of the Saltmarsh series, The Faithful Quartermasters of Iuz, which will be a small magic shop for your players to procure rare and powerful magic items. Since Pyram had made some updates to his Argyvnostholt material, I'll be working on a map for the Spider Queen's lair he added as part of that quest arc, and lastly, I'm hoping to create one of the key location maps from the Village of Barovia as well as start on my interior work for the Gothic Village map. So much work and not enough time, but that's okay! I'm looking forward to another amazing year of map making, and with any luck, next year, I'll be able to introduce another module to make maps for!
Thanks as always for your amazing and continued support. I hope everyone had a chance to get some time off this month, and looking forward to the upcoming projects I'll have for you.
Cheers,
DM Andy
