Champion Tier - The Wicker Goat 1st Floor [40x30]

Hey everyone, and happy Release Monday! Wow, what a map this has been. Well, over 60 hours of work and many...many cups of coffee later, I present to you all the 1st level of the Wicker Goat Tavern & Inn! 

This project exceeded my initial thought to do a simple tavern/inn map, but hey, this wouldn't be a DM Andy map without an insane level of detail (and insane it is!). I pulled out all the stops to create one of the most detailed and immersive tavern & inn maps I've ever done. 

While this release is only for the 1st floor, I hope you'll agree that it will be worth a multi-part release. I'll be launching the 2nd floor and roof versions next, so stay tuned for that. 

About the map

Outside of the small paragraph description in the book, I didn't have much to go off of other than some old info online (some of which was fan-written). There are at least three taverns and inns in Saltmarsh, and I wanted each one to feel different and distinctive. I started with the actual "Wicker Goat," which I hand-built one piece of wicker at a time. The goat itself is over 1,000 individual assets. I was not sure as to what scale I should go to, but I thought, "Let's go big!" and made the wicker goat the focal point of the tavern's entrance. I also like to think the goat is a huge target for the competition to steal, vandalize, or light on fire. I feel as though there may have been a few wicker goats in the tavern's history, but each time one is destroyed, a new one is rebuilt as an act of defiance and to remind the folks of Saltmarsh why this is the oldest tavern in the city! 

 I wanted the tavern to feel old, worn, and full of character, using reclaimed boat wood to keep the deck in shape. As you enter, you see a massive hearth built by the Dwarves. Since this tavern caters to the miners and towns guard, I wanted them to feel represented here with the shield crest of Saltmarsh hanging on the walls. 

There are four private rooms on either side of the tavern for all sorts of secret meetings! This is a great place to get quests, meet contacts, or just enjoy some private conversation. Two flights of stairs head to the upper railing, which overlooks the main portion of the tavern and leads to the rooms. 

Of course, the bar is fully stocked with liquor, and three massive-sized kegs from the "Salty Dwarf Brewing Co." are attached through the wall and tapped for ease of pour. The kitchen is fully stocked and always churning out fresh stew with a variety of fish and seafood, fresh from the morning! I wanted the tavern owner's previous military history to be visually represented, and you can find his service saber and medals proudly displayed in a case in the office.

Lastly, the outbuildings contain stables, a well, outhouses, an area for fresh laundry to be cleaned, and a small storehouse for the wagon that is used to offload barrels of ale. 

Color Moods

Keeping with the Saltmarsh color theme I've used for the last two maps, this map comes in the following color moods:

• Cool Day: Comes with and without sun rays as well as a version without lights. 
• Dry Sun: Comes with and without sun rays as well as a version without lights.
• Ghostly: Comes with and without fog/rain as well as a version without lights.
• Gloom: Comes with and without fog/rain as well as a version without lights.
• Night: Comes with and without fog/rain as well as a version without lights.
• Overcast: Comes with and without fog/rain as well as a version without lights.
• Sunwashed: Comes with and without sun rays as well as a version without lights.
• Warm Sands: Comes with and without sun rays as well as a version without lights.

Since this map was so large in scale, I decided to do this as a two-parter, so next up will be the second floor and the roof levels of the map. The second floor will contain upper decks and tons of rooms for your party to stay in. 

Once the Wicker Goat is marked complete, I'll be working on creating a map for the Binding of Vampyr encounter written by Lunch Break Heroes! I've seen many requests for this map and looking forward to creating my own version for it.
