Champion Tier - The Road to the Castle - [80x60]

Hey everyone! I'm excited to bring you my newest map; "The Road to the Castle". This is a pretty large map coming in at 80x60 and should give you plenty of ground to cover any encounters you might have planned as your players march (or take the black carriage) up to the castle.

I was inspired by the classic 1992 Bram Stoker's Dracula movie where the scene when Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves) is taking the carriage to the Count's castle and he opens the door to speak with the "driver". There he glances downward and sees the wagon wheel merely inches away from the edge of the winding cliff where all you can see is mist and utter darkness below. I made the road nice and narrow to capture the unsafe feel of getting near the edge.

For this map, you'll find plenty of elevated rock formations that loom over the road (Great for flying creatures peering at any visitors). Dotted along the bends of the road are aging and crumbling statues with mysterious hooded figures, each gripping a swinging and rusted lantern. Some say they are illuminated at night on their own, but no one is brave enough to investigate how this happens. Toward the edge of the cliff as you look out into the chasm below, all you can see for hundreds (possibly thousands) of feet is swirling fog and the black abyss.

You find various gravestones, weathered and aged, line the edges of the road as your wind your way upwards. Perhaps former heroes that have fallen to their doom on this treacherous path? Eventually, you come to a pair of crumbling towers with tattered banners and sneering gargoyles staring out through sunken eyes. As the wind sweeps across the chasm, you hear the sounds of heavy rusted iron chains creak loudly and the wooden planks of the bridge groan with age as they seem to be hardly hanging on. Beyond, the high castle walls silently look down on you with only the warm light of the open front door to the castle beckoning you to enter.

For my Champion Tier members, this release comes with the following variants:

Since Aug is a 5 Monday month, I will be taking a week off from releasing next week on the 22nd so I can catch up on some of my pending projects. I am currently working on finishing up the next Lunch Break Hereos original adventure, which will feature a school of anatomy, a graveyard, and a crypt with a really fun mystery for your players to solve! This map pack will come with 4 different maps along with the LBH adventure so a great way to end the month.

Then I'll be working on the next chapter of the Interactive Tome of Strahd, and a forest road campsite map.

Oh and lastly... I'll be starting my work on the exterior version of nonother than Castle Ravenloft!! Stay tuned for some amazing releases on deck for the next few weeks! Thanks as always for your support and patronage!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Oh wow, yeah I didn't know that extra part. Unless I missed something, I don't believe it was mentioned in the 5e module (and that is the extent of my Strahd lore beyond the I, Strahd novel). But that is really good to know! I know there are lots of castle variants and different iterations out there so once the core castle is complete, I do plan on re-doing parts to add the variants and this grove sounds like a great idea for sure!

Absolutely brilliant, Andy! We need more switchbacks for those treacherous Barovian mountain roads! One thing I would mention is that those dead trees usually depicted outside of the castle walls is actually a grove of ancient tree blights. They don't twitch a twig unless Strahd musters them up.. but they're there. You know what? I don't recall if CoS mentioned them or not, but Expedition and a couple of the other older ones did. I'll dig through your maps and see if I can't crop in a nice plateau looking area to stage the tree blights right in front of the castle.. but you might consider adding a version like that yourself someday. :)

Thank you SO much!! I'm so very thankful for your support and comment and I'm happy you are getting to make good use of my maps :) I'm about halfway done with Ravenloft exterior and then I'll start working on the 1st level. I don't have an ETA yet, but if you are in a pinch, I do have the castle's dining room from the Interactive Tome of Strahd maps. It's a bit more "lived in" since this is before Strahd's conversion, but you could always say he's casted illusion magic on the room to make it feel more "at home" for the players :P

Oh man, these are absolutely amazing. Thanks for creating these beautiful maps. My players have dinner with Strahd this week so they'll just have to wait on your take on Ravenloft until they storm the castle! Looking forward to Amber Temple 2.0. Keep up the amazing work.

Hey there Alan! Yes, I have had a few of our community members print these maps on posters which I've highlighted in my community spotlight posts. I also had someone else ping me in Discord and they used a vendor on Etsy to create my Map of Barovia on a nice piece of cloth for wall art. I am not very printer savvy myself, but if there are any formats you need that will help with the print job, let me know and I'll do my best to provide. Has anyone had any luck getting a physical poster map printed of any of these? I actually have an in-person group. I would love to have a printed map of the Abbey done. Can it be done at an Office Max or other print shop?

Alan Bengs

Glad you like it and thank you so much!

Andy D'Amato

Love it, thanks Andy!

Chuck

That's what I was hoping! It should be a perilous journey for them for sure!

Andy D'Amato

Look how many corners there are to push them off. I mean explore.
